2015 Discussion Challenge - 400

Welcome to the 2015 Book Blog Discussion Challenge hosted by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction and Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight!

This time of year, there are tons of reading challenges starting up (which we LOVE!). But we wanted to challenge our fellow book bloggers to not only read more, but talk more too. That’s where the idea for this challenge was born!

So often book bloggers mean to post more discussions on our blogs, but we just don’t quite get around to it. Well, we wanted to give everyone a little motivation to keep the discussions going, plus give us a place to link up our discussions so that more people will see our precious words of wisdom (or … you know … our GIF-filled rants).

I hope you’ll join us for this challenge and pledge yourself to posting more discussions in this upcoming year. I promise we’ll have lots of fun talking together!

Here’s All You Have to Do:

  • The 2015 Book Blog Discussion Challenge runs from January 1st until December 31st, 2015.
  • Sign-ups will remain open until December 31st, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. Central. (So, you can sign up all year long! Come join us!)
  • You DO NOT have to have a book blog to join this challenge. If you don’t have a book blog, you may link up to discussions that you’ve started on Goodreads groups.
  • Create a sign-up post announcing your intention to participate and link up below. If you do not have a blog, you can link up to your Goodreads profile. There is no need to say what your discussion posts will be about – just tell us that you’re joining and let us know what your goal is.
  • Please link back to both challenge hosts and include the challenge button in your sign-up posts.
  • Every month, we’ll update this 2015 Book Blog Challenge Page with the links to that month’s Challenge linky – so you’ll always know where to find the latest link-up!
  • Share it! The more people we get to participate in this, the more awesome discussions we can all be a part of and the more fun it will be! So, invite your friends to join us!
  • This challenge is to help get us discussing books and book blogging, so talk about whatever you want as long as it’s relevant to book blogging. Discussions can be book related or book blogging related (or generally blogging related – no discussions about things that are completely off-topic like travel or fashion, etc). Discussions can also be about you personally if it’s a get-to-know-you type post.
  • There will be a kick-off post on January 1, 2015 on both Feed Your Fiction Addiction and It Starts at Midnight where you’ll be able to leave your links for any January discussions. At the beginning of every month, a new post will go up  on both blogs for that month’s links.
  • If you forgot to leave your discussion link in the challenge month in which you posted the discussion or the linky list closed before you had a chance to leave it, you can leave it in a future month. (No duplicates though.)
  • There will also be monthly giveaways, so make sure you check in each month!
  • Use the hashtag #LetsDiscuss2015 to share your progress and connect with other participants on Twitter.
  • Have questions? Feel free to ask in the comments!

 The Levels:

1-12 – Discussion Dabbler
13-24 – Creative Conversationalist
25-36 – Chatty Kathy
37-48 – Terrifically Talkative
49+ – Gift of the Gab

I’m shooting for Gift of the Gab, which works out to just less than one discussion per week!

    • Yes, it’s just a fun way to reinforce something you’re already doing. Plus, it will be great to have discussions linked up so that we can easily find them – I love reading discussion posts!

    • Awesome! It’s good to start with a goal you’re pretty sure you can meet – then you just feel even better if you exceed it! 🙂

By the way, I just wanted to let you know that I tried to comment on your Challenge post, but something was wonky with your comment box. The email and url boxes weren’t showing up, and it wouldn’t let me post the comment without entering an email, so I would just get an error. I tried it on one of your other posts and had the same problem. Just thought you might want to check it out – I know nobody wants to miss out on comments!

  1. Thank you so much for letting me know! I recently upgraded my theme and know there would be a glitch or two. I think I fixed it…I would love if you would let me know if it is working for you now. I also have a new comment form I am using..I wonder if that os working.

i feel like these dates are mixed up. :]

    • Actually, I’m purposely leaving the sign-ups open all during 2015 – new bloggers can join us anytime! Thanks for the heads-up, though – I’ve definitely been known to make a mistake sometimes and I always appreciate it when someone lets me know!

  3. I do have a question – well a couple of questions. 🙂

    1. Do we post every day or on a specific day?
    2. I am also not sure what I am to post. A question about blogging or books? Or do I create a post that others can discuss about blogging, books, or other topics?

This sounds fun, but I am not sure of how I can participate and what I need to do.

    Thanks.

I will be looking for your reply.

    THANKS.

    • You can post as many times as you want throughout the month, and then just put a link to each of your discussions in that month’s link-up. There is no requirement about when you post or what topics you discuss (as long as the discussion could be applicable to book bloggers). I will put some ideas in the monthly link-up post for people who are looking for some inspiration, though. Usually the best way to do it is to discuss your thoughts on a topic and then present a question, asking for other people’s opinions on that topic. If you’d like some examples of discussion posts, feel free to check out mine HERE!

      • I should also have mentioned that the link-up for January will go up on Monday (and I’ll include a link to it in this post too). Hope you decide to join us!

  4. I know it’s already April, but I am just hearing about this. This is the area I definitely need to challenge myself. I mostly do reviews and memes.I keep taunting myself, but a link up will keep me more on track. I’m going to try to do 2 a month. Hope it’s OK to be joining late.

  5. […] I just think this is a great way to see other discussion posts that you may not have otherwise come across.  I’m excited to share mine and read others!  If you would also like to participate, you can visit the challenge sign up page. […]

    • You’d be welcome to start up a discussion thread on Goodreads about any bookish topic! OR, if you’d rather just participate in the discussions already going on, then feel free to just sign up with your name on this page. You could still participate in our discussions and earn entries in the giveaways that way! 🙂

  6. […] part in the 2015 Discussion Challenge, hosted by Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight and Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction. I’ve yet to do my 12 month Challenge Check-In, but I’m pretty sure this was one I […]
