Top Ten New to Me Authors That I Found in 2014

This one was pretty easy. There are LOTS of amazing authors that I discovered this year! The only problem was narrowing it down to ten. So, in order to pare things down a bit, I decided to focus on three different categories (see them below!)

Awesome Self-Pubbed Authors that I Discovered in 2014 (and have read more than one of their books):

Broken WorldSunshineMyExfromHelltheBloomingGoddessTrilogyBookOnebyTellulahDarling

Kate L. Mary – I read the first two books in this self-pubbed author’s Broken World series and I’m hooked! If you like zombie books, try this series out!

Nikki Rae – I LOVED her Sunshine series and I plan to read and review her new novella The Donor very soon!

Tellulah Darling – Her Blooming Goddess Trilogy was all sorts of fun!

Loved Their Debut:

PrisonerofNightandFogbyAnneBlankmanThese Broken Stars

Anne Blankman – I adored Prisoner of Night and Fog and will be reading and reviewing book #2 very soon!

Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner – (Well, it was Amie’s debut) SO loved both These Broken Stars and This Shattered World!!! Now I need to read Spooner’s other series.

SO Behind the Times:

FinnikinoftheRockbyMelinaMarchettaLandlinebyRainbowRowellCinderbyMarissaMeyerTheWayofKingsbyBrandonSandersonGraveMercybyRobinLaFevers

Melina Marchetta – I read the first two Lumatere Chronicles books and loved them. Now I just need to read the final book in that trilogy and Jellicoe Road – everyone raves about it!

Rainbow Rowell – I finally got around to reading Rowell! I loved both Landline and Fangirl and will definitely be reading more!

Marissa Meyer – I’ve still only read Cinder, but I promise to catch up with the rest of the world!

Brandon Sanderson – I finally read a Brandon Sanderson book and now I definitely need to read more!

Robin LaFevers – LOVED Grave Mercy! Why did I wait so long to read it?

So, what authors did you discover this year?

  1. YES^^ Brandon Sanderson ♥ Way of Kings was a truly life-changing read for me and I feel like I might just enjoy The Stormilight Archives even more than the Mistborn books, and THAT IS saying something. I actually *just* started Grave Mercy over the past week and even though I’m only at like, chapter 6-7, I’m really into it already 😀 Cinder is another of my favorites and the series just keeps getting better and better!

I still need to read Landlines, Finnikin of the Rock and These Broken Stars though. Happy reading Nicole!

    • I don’t know why I haven’t read Quintana yet. I had it from the library, but never got to it. And then I think there’s this shame thing – like the people at the library will look at me askance if I get it again. Didn’t you already check this book out once? Yes, I obviously have some strange sense that the world revolves around me if I think that the librarians know what books I’ve checked out. LOL! 🙂

    • I’m not a historical fiction fan either, but I have to confess that something about the WWII era (and especially about someone as insane and powerful as Hitler) intrigues me. I really loved this one!

  2. I am so very behind the times myself. Seriously, I have only read ONE of your behind the times authors! They’re all on my TBR, of course. And I want to read These Broken Stars and Prisoner of Night and Fog. And Landline! I need to read some Rainbow Rowell ASAP, and Landline sounds so, so good. Great list, I need to get my act together and read more 😉

  3. Thanks so much for including me in the list!! You just made my day! I will have to check some of the others out as well, looks like a good list. And Cinder has been on my to-read list for a while!

    • You’re very welcome! When you sent me an ARC of book #3 today, I thought, “Hey, I need to tell her I featured her on my TTT!” Actually, now that I think about it, I also included you on my Halloween TTT – so, obviously you can tell I’m a fan! 🙂

  4. Eep! You’ve “met” some fantastic authors this year! I am OBSESSED with Melina Marchetta. She’s my favorite author. You basically need to read everything by her. 😛 I also love Rainbow Rowell, Marissa Meyer, This Shattered World authors, and Robin LaFevers. Anne Blankman made my list, too; I just adored her debut. I need to read My Ex From Hell!

    Great list!

  5. Yes, narrowing it down was so hard! I just read Cinder this year too, but I LOVED it! So much fun and such great characters! I haven’t read Sanderson yet either, but I plan to change that soon! Since I started reading young adult and middle grade this year I discovered tons of fantastic authors! Riordan, Meyer, Clare, Landry, Bardugo, & Taylor to name a few. (Some of their first names are hard to spell)

  6. […] #7- Being included in someone’s list of their favorite new authors of 2014. This made me smile. I love that anyone would buy my books, and I love getting feedback, but being included in someone’s list for the favorites of 2014? Amazing! Thank you so much Nicole Hewitt at Feed Your Fiction Addiction! […]
