Summer Lovin’ Read-a-thon Day 4 – Books that Made Me Cry and Book Spine Poetry

Posted July 4, 2013 by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction in Challenges / 16 Comments

Today is day 4 of the Summer Lovin’ Read-a-thon and today’s topic is Tears on My Pillow (books that made you cry).  This is an easy one for me because I just recently read a book that made me bawl like a baby.  I’m including one New Adult book and one YA book (since lots of my readers are YA).

Books that Made Me Cry

Girls Love Travis Walker  The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1)

Girls Love Travis Walker by Anne Pfeffer – I just read this book recently and it completely wrecked me (but in a good way!).  Don’t let the frivolous title and cover fool you – this book was very real and extremely emotional.  It deals with homelessness and love and loyalty.  I literally cried through the last 25% of the book, but I loved it.  I HIGHLY recommend this book!  (This one is NA adult, though, with some sex scenes, so not really appropriate for the younger crowd).
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken – When I was trying to think of a YA book that made me cry, this was the first one that came to mind.  It’s been awhile since I read it, but I’m pretty sure I was in tears at the end of the book when Ruby makes a large sacrifice (I won’t spoil what it is).  I still think about that ending often and can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out!
Book Spine Poetry

I have to admit that I actually used this book spine poetry for a recent entry in Top Ten Tuesday, so some of you may have already seen this.  I don’t have that many physical books on my shelves and I don’t have a lot of time, so I didn’t think I’d be able to come up with another one very easily.  This is kind of an eclectic mix of books  (some Christian non-fiction, sci-fi and kids’ books), but it made an interesting poem!

The Power of a Whisper
Welcoming the Stranger

The Whisper

  1. Gasp! I had no idea that The Darkest Mind was a read that would evoke such emotion. I have wanted to read it for awhile. Must get on with it! Great poem!

  2. Okay, I just added Girls Love Travis Walker to my TBR list. It sounds like a great, emotional read.

    Love your poem too.
