Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is:
Top Ten Books to Read for Halloween
These are my top ten horror-related books. I don’t usually read pure horror, but lately I’ve gotten into zombie books (and I’ve always loved books about witches and vampires). There are so many good ones!
TTT
  1. Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini – Loved this book, and it involves witches – perfect Halloween reading!
  2. The Hallowed Ones by Laura Bickle – Zombies combined with Amish characters and an Amish setting! How crazy (and fun!) is that?!
  3. Broken World by Kate L. Mary – This self-pubbed zombie book is a true gem!!
  4. Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion – Actually, watch the movie too. This is one of the few cases where I felt like the movie may have outshone the book!
  5. It by Stephen King – I read this one as a teenager and I remember it scared the bejeezus out of me!
  6. Evil Librarian by Michelle Knudsen – Okay, this one will probably have you doing more laughing than looking over your shoulder, but it’s an awesome book involving demons – you totally need to read it!
  7. Allison Hewitt is Trapped by Madeleine Roux – Another awesome zombie novel. And the main character has a good name.  🙂
  8. The Witches of Dark Root by April Aasheim – Well, witches, obviously.
  9. The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa – Have to have at least one vampire book on the list, and this one is definitely my favorite!
  10. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey – Yeah, I know, I’m stretching here – this is aliens. But the whole thing had kind of a scary feel to it (imagine if the world had been taken over by aliens and you didn’t know who was a human and who wasn’t!)

So, what are your suggestions? What should I be reading this Halloween?

Maybe I don’t, I think I thought about getting it, but then I looked at all my books and changed my mind!

I loved both Warm Bodies! I actually couldn’t get into IT, I tried buddy reading it a few months ago and she didn’t even make it as far as me. A few of these books I hadn’t heard of so thanks for the list. I absolutely love anything with zombies.

    • It’s been many years since I read it, so I honestly don’t remember it all that well. I just remember that it scared me. These are all AWESOME zombie books, so you should definitely check them out!

  4. Oh my, your list here reminded me that I have a LOT of catching up to do >.< The Immortal Rules, Trial by Fire, The 5th Wave AND Warm Bodies are all sitting on my tbr shelf…waiting for me to pick them up! Thanks for the friendly reminder that I'm missing out 🙂 Awesome list Nicole ^^ x

    • I haven’t read any Stephen King when I was a teenager, and I honestly don’t remember much about It except that it scared me. 🙂 My favorite King book was probably The Talisman – not that I remember details about that one either – I just have vague memories of parts and I remember that I loved it. (It was more fantasy than horror, though.)

  5. Evil Librarian?! Okay THAT I so need to try one day. x) I loved Trial by Fire! I didn’t think it was particularly scary, but definitely witches, which fits halloween perfectly, you’re so right!! I haven’t read any of the others. >.> I’m so bad with reading horror, actually, because I like it to be scary and terrifying, and I had a bad run with a lot of mediocre ones and got turned off. I WILL get back into reading it again soon though! Love your list!
Thanks for stopping by @ Notebook Sisters!

    • Yeah, I’m not really much of a horror reader, so I just went with books that went along with the Halloween theme – witches, zombies, vampires, etc. 🙂

  6. Oh, I actually just finished The Immortal Rules last week! I didn’t like it as much, which really surprised me. I still don’t know why, because the main character was badass and the book was action-packed.

But these are great choices. Can’t do a Halloween post without Stephen King.

    • Sorry you weren’t a fan. Sometimes a book just doesn’t click with you for some reason and you can’t even quite put your finger on why. It happens.

  7. Nice list! I shamefully haven’t read any of the books on this list myself, but I have been meaning to read Warm Bodies and Trial by Fire for a while. I can’t wait! A good creepy read I read was Dying for a Living by Kory M. Shrum – you should try it 🙂
