November Wrap-Up and Best of the Bunch

Posted December 2, 2014 by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction in Best of the Bunch, Monthly Recap / 22 Comments

My Goings On in November:

  • This was a very light month for me on the blog, mostly because …
  • I won NaNoWriMo!!!  (Meaning, I wrote the 50,000 required words to win – I haven’t actually finished my book, but I am darn proud of my progress, especially since it was looking pretty bleak there for a little while.) This was a really tough goal for me, so I’m thrilled!
  • I did a first edit of L.A Starkey’s upcoming MG novel Howl at the Moon (which is great fun!)

Best-of-the-Bunch-New-Button

Best of the Bunch is a book blog hop hosted over at Always Lost in Stories on the last day of each month, where we can look back over the books we have read over this past month and give a Best of the Bunch award to our favorite book of that month.

November 2014 Reviews

Like I said, a very light month for blogging (including reviews). Plus, I felt like I was in a bit of a reading slump. Nothing terrible – just lots of 3 or 3.5 star books. Maybe it was just because I was so crazily busy with other things that I just couldn’t enjoy reading as much?  Here’s the reviews that went up in November:

Stolen MoonTalonWhispertoMebyChristinaLeeThe Walled City

  • Stolen Moon by Kimber Leigh Wheaton | Review | Rating: 3.5/5
  • Talon by Julie Kagawa | Review | Rating: 4/5
  • Whisper to Me by Christina Lee | Review | Rating: 4.5/5
  • The Walled City by Ryan Graudin | Review | Rating: 4.5/5
  • Promise Me This by Christina Lee | Review | Rating: 3.5/5
  • As Long as You Love Me by Ann Aguirre | Review | Rating: 4/5
And November’s Best of the Bunch winner is:

This month’s choice was actually pretty easy. The Walled City definitely stuck out for me when I looked over what I reviewed this month. This book had a few flaws, but overall, I really loved it!

The Walled City730. That’s how many days I’ve been trapped.
18. That’s how many days I have left to find a way out.

DAI, trying to escape a haunting past, traffics drugs for the most ruthless kingpin in the Walled City. But in order to find the key to his freedom, he needs help from someone with the power to be invisible….

JIN hides under the radar, afraid the wild street gangs will discover her biggest secret: Jin passes as a boy to stay safe. Still, every chance she gets, she searches for her lost sister….

MEI YEE has been trapped in a brothel for the past two years, dreaming of getting out while watching the girls who try fail one by one. She’s about to give up, when one day she sees an unexpected face at her window…..

In this innovative and adrenaline-fueled novel, they all come together in a desperate attempt to escape a lawless labyrinth before the clock runs out.

 My Review
One more thing before you go!

A Wrap-Up Round Up? Would you want to participate?

I absolutely love monthly wrap-up posts! It gives me a great chance to make sure I didn’t miss any really great reviews or discussions on your blogs! And I don’t want to miss out on any of your wrap-ups!! So, I’m thinking of creating a link-up for monthly book blog wrap-up posts where we all link up and then each month I’ll create a giveaway based on a random sampling of the posts that were linked (kind of a scavenger hunt where I’ll ask questions like “What was Shannon at It Starts at Midnight’s favorite post of November?” – Hope you don’t mind that I used you as an example, Shannon!). The only criteria is that you’d have to have some kind of month-end wrap-up post in order to link up.

What do you think? Would you be up for it? Let me know in the comments!

So, that was my November in a nutshell! Tell me about your month!

  1. I would definitely be game for a wrap up round up! That is SUCH a fun idea! (And, I was pretty excited that you used me as the example, I won’t lie 😉 ) It would actually be a great motivator for me to do wrap ups, which I like, but seem to forget. GREAT idea, you can count me in for sure.

And, HUGE congrats on finishing NaNo! Even if your story isn’t finished, to complete 50K in a month? AMAZING.

    • Glad you didn’t mind me randomly throwing your name out there! I just so love wrap-up posts!

Thanks for the congrats on NaNo! It was looking bleak there for a little while, but I did it!!

  2. I couldn’t agree more and absolutely loved The Walled City as well. I had no idea it was based on a real city back in the day. Frightening stuff. YAY! Congratulations on making your writing goal! I’m not a budding author, but have loved following everyone’s progress on Twitter throughout the month. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing and here’s to a fabulous week of reading!

    • I don’t know if I’d call myself a budding author – that sounds way too official. Like I’m really doing it. But I guess I should be thinking that way!! LOL!
