Sunday Post – 3/29/15

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

Last week on FYFA (and in my life):

It’s been crazy around here! After last week’s gymnastics thing, both my daughter and I got sick. Nothing horrible – just enough to make me drag through my days. Ugh! But, on the good side of things, we’re having our basement finished and it’s nearly done! We’re working on the last finishing touches now – painting, ordering carpet, etc. Actually, I’ve worked on it some, but my husband and kids have done most of it, since I’ve had an editing project I’ve been working on – and I just had to attend a Richelle Mead signing in Naperville (watch for a recap of that later this week). Have I mentioned that I’ve got the best husband and kids ever? I cannot wait for the basement to be finished so that my sons’ video games and my daughter’s crafts can migrate down there – I’ll actually have a dining room table again!! (Not that I’ll use it. LOL! But it won’t be an eyesore, always covered with random craft projects.)

I’ve also been trying to figure out if I can make it to RT in Dallas in May. I’m thinking of doing that instead of BEA this year, and I’m really hoping to make it work, but it’s a little late for signing up and all of the rooms at the hotel are booked. I guess there’s an overflow, but I haven’t figured out how that all works yet. Anyone been to RT – or going this year? (Carmel from Rabid Reads is the one who told me about it, and she says it’s amazing!)

Here’s what you may have missed this past week:

Next week on FYFA:

  • Resounding Truth by Kate Thomas (feature & giveaway)
  • Walled by Anne Tibbets (review)
  • Released by S.J. Pajonas (review)
  • Let’s Discuss – The Book You Thought You Were Going to Love
Book-Haul

Purchased:

I went to the Richelle Mead signing at Anderson’s Bookshop with my mom (oh, yeah, I also have the best mom ever – I’m sorry I’ve taken all the good family members, guys – it’s really kind of rude of me to hog them). I still haven’t read the final two books in the Bloodlines series and my mom hasn’t read any of it (she did read the Vampire Academy series, though), so we just bought the whole series. And she hasn’t read the Unwind series (and I haven’t read the final book yet), so we bought those too, while we were at it!

For Review:

Thanks to Penguin for sending me this one! I loved the movie and I’m excited to read the books! Of course, I’ll have to pry it away from my son first. He saw this and said, “Both books in ONE? Now I’m for sure going to read them!!” Note to self – the key to a 12-year-old’s bookish heart is not making him wait for more books. He acted like two books in one was some sort of gold mine. Not sure how I’m just now figuring this out!

  1. Congrats on getting the first two Maze Runner books. Personally, I thought the first one was a bit slow. But Scorch Trials was my favorite one. It was the one with the most action. I hope you enjoy them.

  2. Go you for having some awesome family members. 🙂 I’ve never been to the Romantic Times convention, so I have nothing to suggest there – however, I HAVE wanted to go for a long time as I used to review books for them. If you do go to BEA though, we need to meet.

p.s I’m hoping to send you back the chapter tonight or tomorrow sometime. 🙂

  3. I so wish my son would read more. I would buy him a library if he showed interest. Alas, he only reads game instructions and game magazines. I am contemplating BEA, that is in NY right? Ugh, I am so out of the loop.

    • Yes, BEA is in NY at the end of May. (Though next year it will be in Chicago). It’s a fantastic experience, but I’m forgoing it for RT this year I think. I just figured it would be cool to do something different.

I’m lucky that my kids love to read – though video games definitely hold a large portion of my son’s heart! 🙂

  4. Ah, I haven’t finish Vampire Academy yet, but I really want to. I’m waiting to find some kind of sale for all the books. So cool that you can share your love of reading with your mom and your son. My mom likes to read, but she hasn’t done much of it lately, but I try to keep pushing her to!
I wish I could go to these book conventions, they all sound like so much fun!

    • Yes, I love reading with my family. Both my son and my daughter are avid readers, and my mom reads pretty much all the books I do, so I get to share that with them!

  5. Those weeks were the days drag are so annoying. I am sorry to hear you’ve been sick. That’s so nice that your husband and kids worked so hard on the basement. Ive never been to a convention or signing so far as there aren’t as many of them here in the Netherlands. Richelle Mead is one of my favourite authors, must have been excitign to go to one of her signings! I still have to read the last Bloodlines book, but I have read the rest of her books. Enjoy your new books and have a rgeat week!

    • Richelle Mead was great!! I was really excited to see her in person! Sorry you don’t get signings out in your neck of the woods – it’s a shame that you miss out on that. 🙁

  6. Nice! I didn’t think to look for you last Friday! I was at the Richelle Mead signing too! Thankfully this time, my mom drove with me! So the near 5 hour drive wasn’t so unbearable this time! Especially since she drove! 😉

Richelle really is super awesome! Loved her Bloodlines series! Hope you enjoy the final books too!

  7. Ah Bloodlines! I haven’t finished yet because silver shadows made me ranty. Haha

Unwind was good! Have you read it?

My son actually went on Amazon and reviewed the Maze Runner and Scorch Trials!

    • I was scared of the cliffhanger in Silver Shadows, so I was holding off, but I’m going to read both books now! I absolutely adore the Unwind series – but I haven’t read that final book yet (my weird issue with finishing series I love strikes again). Now that I own it, I have no excuse!

I sometimes force my kids to write book reviews for books for homeschooling, but they’re not all that keen on the idea. LOL! I don’t get it – why wouldn’t you want to tell everyone about a book you love?! (Because it’s work, Mom.)

  8. I’m reading The Scorch Trials aloud to my ten yr old son right now, and he is LOVING it! He’s reading another series to himself right now, or he would probably be reading these by himself because I don’t read enough for him (30 mins a day is all I can handle usually).
