My Goings On in May:
May was a VERY busy month for me! There were so many awesome things going on around here!
- I finished editing The Light by Kate Thomas and Burn by Allie Juliette Mousseau. Plus, I started working on Summer Haikus with S.J. Pajonas, who I’m excited to be working with because I’ve really enjoyed all of her past books (check out the link to see my reviews of her books that I’ve read so far).
- The weather finally warmed up and we got to enjoy Six Flags! Yay, rollercoasters!
- I had an amazing time at RT in Dallas, TX! A crazily full and exciting week!
- My husband spent lots of time trying to figure out why my site is loading so slowly (especially at certain times of the day) and trying to rectify the situation. Hopefully we got some solutions in place, but I think we may just have to switch hosting companies at some point. Ugh! I have to confess that I hate the technical stuff! (Good thing I have a techie husband!)
- On a sad note – We started Mother’s Day with excitement, celebrating both the holiday and my daughter’s 11th birthday with family (including my husband’s parents, who just came back from snow-birding it in Arizona), but unfortunately, the day took a sad turn when we had to put our fourteen-and-a-half-year-old dog to sleep. We had known that it was coming because he was having a really hard time getting around lately, but it was sad that it had to happen on the day of my daughter’s birthday celebration. She was obviously pretty upset about losing him, but agreed that it was the best thing for him when he literally wasn’t able to stand on his own. Still, it’s a hard decision to make – hard enough on adults, even more so on kids.

My Favorite May Discussions on Other Blogs:
Okay, honestly, this month was so crazy for me that I’m only halfway through the May Discussion Challenge posts. I’m still working my way through them, but I’m not going to list my favorites this month since there are so many I haven’t even read yet!!
Best of the Bunch used to be a book blog hop hosted over at Always Lost in Stories on the last day of each month, but it seems that Sally’s stopped blogging, so this hop is now pretty much defunct. I AM starting up my own month-end hop – starting in June. Keep your eyes open for details on how you can get in on the action!! Anyway, for now I’m just continuing Best of the Bunch, where we can look back over the books we have read over this past month and give a Best of the Bunch award to our favorite book of that month.
May 2015 Reviews
Lately, I’ve been falling behind on reviews (especially with being gone a whole week with RT and finishing up two edits right before/after it)! But here’s the reviews I managed to get posted in May!
- Face Time by S.J. Pajonas | Review | Rating: 4/5
- World of Ash by Shauna Granger | Review | Rating: 4.5/5
- Time of Ruin by Shauna Granger | Review | Rating: 4.5/5
- Age of Blood by Shauna Granger | Review | Rating: 4/5
- A Matter of Heart by Amy Fellner Dominy | Review | Rating: 3.5/5
- Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge | Review | Rating: 4.5/5
- A Taylor Made Life by Kary Rader | Review | Rating: 3.5/5
- Until You Find Me by Amber Hart | Review | Rating: 4/5
- Siren’s Fury by Mary Weber | Review | Rating:4/5
And May’s Best of the Bunch winner is:
I decided on World of Ash because I really just enjoyed Granger’s series as a whole so much! It was the perfect dystopian series – exciting and full of danger! I highly recommend it! Of course, Crimson Bound was a close second!
There are two inherent truths in the world: life as we know it is over, and monsters are real.
The Pestas came in the night, spreading their pox, a deadly plague that decimated the population. Kat, one of the unlucky few who survived, is determined to get to her last living relative and find shelter from the pox that continues to devastate the world. When it mutates and becomes airborne, Kat is desperate to avoid people because staying alone might be her only chance to stay alive.
That is, until she meets Dylan. Dylan, with his easy smile and dark, curly hair, has nowhere to go and no one to live for. He convinces Kat there can be safety in numbers, that they can watch out for each other. So the unlikely couple set off together through the barren wasteland to find a new life – if they can survive the roaming Pestas, bands of wild, gun-toting children, and piles of burning, pox-ridden bodies.
Having a techie husband must be awesome! I am the technical one out of us and that’s not saying much! So sorry about your dog. Losing a pet is hard and her birthday must have been rough.
Looks like some good books this month. I haven’t read (or heard of) World of Ash series but looks really interesting.
I love having a techie husband – he deals with all the hard stuff and I just have to write posts. 🙂
Wow you got a TON of reviews done last month! I was much, much lazier (and busy with school) so I didn’t get nearly as much done haha. Lots of reading? Yes. Reviews? Not so much.
Honestly, if you look back at my old Best of the Bunch posts, you’ll see that I used to post was MORE reviews. I’ve been slowing way down because I just don’t have the time lately!
I am so sorry about your dog! I am sure you did what was best, but I can imagine how hard that was. My dog is middle aged right now and I dread the day we have to make a decision like that.
Yeah, it was a hard day and the timing was really horrible. We knew the time was coming, but you just don’t want it to actually happen, you know.
Some wicked looking titles there! World of Ash looks amazeballs! You did great for May! Happy June reading!
Thanks, Freda! It was a great month!
I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. I have two cats who are 17 years old, and I know the day of making decisions is not far off. I’m glad you were able to get away from it all at RT!
Yeah, I was just glad that it happened before I went to RT because it would have been harder on my daughter if I hadn’t been here.
I’m excited to be working with you too! Woo! I’m very much in love with the this story and it’s been fun to write and craft it into something unique.
I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of your beloved dog though 🙁 Hugs to you and your family. What a month.
I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. 🙁 I know that can be incredibly tough!
World of Ash… I’ve never heard of this book. I will have to check it out; thanks for the rec. 🙂
I hope you have another good reading month in June!
