Top Ten Hyped Books I’ve Never Read

This is an EASY topic! There are SO MANY books that I haven’t read that everyone else has loved. Now, I’m not one of those people who tends to dislike books that get a lot of hype, so I’m still looking forward to reading all of these. Eventually I’ll get around to it!

  1. The Grisha Series by Leigh Bardugo – This series is perfect for me! So, why haven’t I read it? Who knows?
  2. Anything by Sarah Dessen – I have a Sarah Dessen book on my shelf (The Moon and More), but I’ve heard that it’s not her best, and so I just haven’t gotten around to reading it.
  3. The Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas – Again, this series is right up my alley, so I don’t know what I’m waiting for.
  4. The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkowski – I almost got this book at RT. Marie was just about to hand it to me when she decided she’d better check to make sure she was supposed to give the books on her table away. She wasn’t. She did say that she’d give me one at the end, but then I saw how many teens were at the event and not getting any books that I felt way too guilty to try and get one (in fact, I gave away all but one of the books I did get in my goody bag because I just felt bad for the teens who hadn’t gotten any!)
  5. The Others Series by Anne Bishop – This is another one that I’ve heard such AMAZING things about, and I really want to read it. Someday.
  6. The Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu – Can I just say “ditto”?
  7. The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon – I have the first book, but the series is SO long. I want to. I really do. Someday I will.
  8. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – Another one that’s sitting on my  shelf, calling to me.
  9. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy by Laini Taylor – I know. I need to read it.
  10. The Uglies Series by Scott Westerfield – I have TWO books from this series on my shelf now, but I still haven’t picked them up!

Okay, so here’s the deal – I want YOU to tell me which one of these I should pick up next. Whatever you guys choose, I’ll read it sometime this month (if it’s a series, I can’t guarantee I’ll read the whole thing, but at least the first book!) So, let me know in the comments what you choose!!

    • I like your idea of watching Outlander before reading the book. Just might do that. So, you’ve read lots of these, but which one do you recommend? I have to choose!

  1. Joycedale Chapman

2 of those I haven’t heard of. The rest I either don’t want to read or wasn’t really impressed with. Daughter of Smoke and Bone I really liked but not so much the rest of the series. Since you said anything by Sarah Dessen I say read her book Just Listen.

    • I haven’t heard of Just Listen, but I’ll definitely have to check that one out. It’s unfortunate that the one Dessen book I have is supposedly not her best. Sigh.

    • Yes – Outlander is so thick and the series is so long that I haven’t been able to convince myself to pick it up yet. But I will. Eventually. One vote for Shadow and Bone – counted. 🙂

  2. UGLIES!!! This is THE series that got me into the YA dystopian craze. I love Tally and this storyline, plus all the made-up slang. It is seriously the best. My second favorite on your list is LEGEND. I liked this series as a whole because I actually thought the first book fell flat (the alternating first person POVs were tough to follow and her style felt more like reporting than an actual voice of the character) but then the second book really improved and the third was so good it made me cry. I have a lot of respect for Marie Lu!

    • I actually own multiple books from the Uglies series, thanks to The Book Outlet, so I have no excuse not to read them. And they seem like they would be right up my alley and probably quick reads. I like your vote!

  3. OOoh, tempting! I read ToG some years ago and just couldn’t get into it. So I technically “read” it, but didn’t like it!

I did read and enjoy Legend, Written in Red, and Shadow and Bone! All were intriguing and different from one another for sure! LOL!

If I were to recommend one, it’d be Written in Red! I only got as far as that one in the series, but I have the other two on standby! lOL! It was an intriguing and mystertious kind of read! The characters were awesome though! I loved seeing all of them develop in their own way! I have a review of that one up somewhere on my blog! Lately, I find it hard to find my old reviews through my search engine! I have to dive into my archives on the dashboard! LOL!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    • Yeah, most people seem to think that Moon is fine, but they rave about her other books. I was kind of bummed because I was all set to read a Dessen book, but really wanted to start with one that people loved.

  4. Cindy

You should totally read Throne Of Glass by Sarah J. Mass. Trust me-you won’t regret it. It’s so good! I read it a couple years ago and still remember everything about it. <3 that book so much!!! ^-^

    • My roommate at BEA was such an incredible ToG fan – she was overcome by the idea of meeting Maas. I know I need to read that series!

    • I think your review was one of the ones I saw that convinced me that I needed to read Written in Red. I hadn’t really given the series much thought until the most recent book came out, but everyone raved about it!

  5. I vote for Throne of Glass, and Written in Red. Though if we can only pick ONE book, it’s Written in Red all the way. I adore that series!

I actually haven’t read any of the others in your list yet either. I’ll get around to them eventually maybe? The Book Thief and Daughter of Smoke and Bones are on my To Read list. Need to see if the library has them, though it’s unlikely as my library is pitiful in their picks. Half the books I want are audible only. But read the Others series! You’ll like it! *grins*

  6. OMG so many of these are on my Top Ten this week too! HAHA that is so funny!! Okay so of the ones you pictured I also have Outlander, Shadow and Bone, Throne of Glass, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and Legend and Winner’s Curse on mine! umm wow! 0.0

I’d have to say read Winner’s Curse because that’s the one lately I have been gravitating towards and I would say Outlander as a second (but I know that’s really long so I would recommend it if you are in the mood for a longer historical book) 😛 Good luck! Can’t wait to see what you end up reading and your thoughts on it

  7. A lot of hyped books you have to read! It’s so frustrating, I know. You should TOTALLY read Daughter of Smoke & Bone! Although the story sort of went downhill for me as it progressed through the trilogy, I have to say that Daughter of Smoke & Bone won me over. And I’m sure you’ll enjoy it too! 😀 OH. You should also read Throne of Glass and Winner’s Curse as well <3 Hope you have the time, and happy reading!!!

    • I know!! I need to read them all! Okay, I’m putting your vote down for Daughter of Smoke and Bone, since that’s the one you said first. 🙂

  8. I loved the writing in Shadow & Bone! At one point in the book I started getting really confused, but it was more of my fault than the author’s. Unfortunately, Sarah Dessen’s books aren’t for me. I’ve read three of them and thought they were all just meh. I didn’t like Throne of Glass at all, but I enjoyed the sequels a lot! The Winner’s Curse was really, really good. You MUST read Legend. The finale is one of my all-time favorite books! _<

I totally voted for Legend because THE FINALE! ;D

    • You guys are really smart. I thought that everyone would recommend they’re favorite book, but several of you have wanted me to read a book first so that you know if you should read it. Very smart indeed!

  9. Oh wow, I did the same exact thing this week! I would say Shadow and Bone would be my favorite. BUT I liked the second books of The Winner’s Curse and Throne of Glass a LOT, so this is hard! Legend was decent too, but I don’t think I would pick it first.

    • I’m right there with you on Outlander. I want to read it, but …
Actually, I think I’m intimidated by The Book Thief too – not because of the size, but just because of the subject matter and ALL the hype around it. I just don’t know if I can love it as much as I’m supposed to! 🙂

  10. Deb

I recommend Uglies and Outlander. And I would definitely read Outlander before watching, there’s just so much more in the book although the show is very good. Gabaldon’s writing style isn’t for everyone but I absolutely love her books. Uglies is one of my favorite YA series, I’ve always wished it had more of a following. Westerfeld is awesome.
