Meet My Mom!

Posted April 22, 2016 by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction in Let's Discuss / 35 Comments

Tomorrow, I’m going to be posting a dual review of Soundless. The review will be written by me … and my mom!!

But first I thought it would be nice to introduce you to my mom. I’ve been trying to convince her for quite some time that she should join me here at the blog. After all she reads pretty much all the same books that I do! She insists she can’t write. What do I say to that? Pshaw!!! She gave birth to me, didn’t she? (Of course, by that logic, I should be a fantastic video game player … hmmm …)

Anyway, without further ado, meet my mom. Oh, I guess I should tell you her name so you don’t have to go around calling her Nicole’s Mom all the time (though, sadly, she’s kind of used to that). So, meet Gay!

Mom-Gay

Incidentally, this is a horrible picture of me, but it’s a great picture of my mom, not to mention Adam Silvera, so I’m putting it up here anyway. (See how sacrificial I am? A true martyr, let me tell you.) Actually, if you’ve been paying attention, you’ve met my mom before. She attends pretty much all of the local book events with me, so you’ve seen her picture here before – though she’s often the one behind the camera.

A few facts about my mom:

Age – She’s older than me. Hopefully you figured that part out. I think it would be mean to tell you exactly how much older, so I won’t.

Job – A jack-of-all-trades office worker at a plastic manufacturing company. She does payroll, billing, invoicing, ordering, answers phones … this list could go on and on. She does LOTS of stuff. She’s looking forward to retirement in a couple of years, though!

Hobbies – Reading. Going to book events with me, traveling with us, going for hikes with us, bike riding with us (she never learned how to ride a bike as a kid, so she has a trike!), going for walks with us, watching movies and TV with us … not sure if you’ve noticed a theme here.

My mom lives with us on the weekends. She comes over on Friday evening and leaves on Sunday evening, so mostly she does the same stuff we do. When she’s not with us, she’s either at work or catching up on her TV shows that we don’t watch … or actually hanging out with my dad. He gets to see her sometimes too.

The fact that she’s here every weekend is awesome for my kids because she’s basically a member of our immediate family and they have her around all the time. Plus, when the kids were growing up, we had a built-in babysitter (so we’re really spoiled!!).

Favorite TV Shows – (In the random order she gave them to me, since I know she watches lots of shows, but I could only think of a couple.) Greys Anatomy, Survivor, 100, Walking Dead, Hell’s Kitchen, Shark Tank, Jane the Virgin, Empire, Nashville, Pretty Little Liars

Gosh, it’s actually really hard to introduce you to someone I know so incredibly well. She’s just … Mom. Basically, my mom is awesome, and you should all think so too. I hope you’ll give her a warm welcome and make her feel at home here on FYFA. I want her to stick around!

Have you ever had a family member on your blog? Would you like to? Is there someone you’ve been trying to convince? I want to know!

It took a long time for Nicole to convince me to do a book review for her. It took BEA in Chicago to convince me. 🙂

Thanks! I really love your books! I thought your short stories were so whimsical and fun. Everyone should read them.

  3. Nice to meet you, Gay! Welcome to the blog world. I hope you love it. 🙂 It’s great that you and your mom are so close, Nicole. I still live at home but I know when I do move out I’ll still be super close to my mom. She’s one of my very best friends and I HAVE had her on the blog – she’s done a few book reviews in the past. My sister has as well, since she really loves to read too.

Nice to meet you too. I think I’m going to love blogging with Nicole. I’ve always loved reading and now enjoy it even more since we read so many of the same books and can discuss them.

  4. Hi, welcome to the bloggy world, Gay!

I’ve never had a family member on my blog and I don’t think I ever will lol since no one else in my family is a reader. I guess if I ever want to share a post about fishing or something I can ask one of them lol. That’s so awesome that you and your mom get to share a love of books though 🙂

  6. Welcome, Gay! Looking forward to reading your thoughts on books and the bookish events you and Nicole would get up to. It’s too bad I cancelled my BEA plans this year, I would’ve loved to meet both of you. But maybe another year. Anyway, enjoy blogging. I’m sure you’ll do great!

Thanks for the welcome Joy! I’m new at blogging and reviewing so I’ve got a lot to learn. Luckily Nicole is a good teacher.I’m still a little nervous about it. 🙂 Too bad you can’t make it to BEA this year. This will be my first time. I’m really looking forward to it.

  7. Nicole – How wonderful to be able to share what you read with your mom! Both my mom and sisters are readers but none of us really reads the same thing. So we share a love of reading, but that’s as far as it goes.

Gay – So nice to meet you! I guess you already know how wonderful Nicole is, huh? 🙂 Can’t wait to see more from you!

Hi Gay! Welcome, and I’m so excited to read your thoughts on the books you read! And that is fabulous that you get to spend so much time with your daughter and her family on the weekends! My parents are moving from 4 hours away to just 15 minutes away this year and I’m counting the minutes till they are closer. It’s so wonderful to spend lots of time with the ones you love! 🙂

Hi Jen! Thanks! It’s so nice that your parents are moving closer. I’m sure you are going to love getting to see them more often. I love living close to Nicole. I really appreciate that I get to spend lots of time with her & her family. I also love getting to spend so much time with the grandkids while they are young!
