Why I’m So Thankful for the Book Blogging Community

I thought I’d participate in The Thanks U Give, which is being hosted by Chasing Faerytales and Stay Bookish. It’s a sort of bookish Thanksgiving celebration, and there are so many bookish things to be thankful for! Make sure you head over to the main post to enter the giveaway, because HarperCollins was generous enough to sponsor!

So, here are a list of (some of the) reasons I’m thankful for
the Book Blogging Community:

You Get Me

How often do you find other people who want to talk about books or blogging all the time? Well, probably not all that often in “real” life, but that’s okay. My book blogger friends know what it’s like to be slightly (okay, majorly) addicted to books and they won’t question my decision to stay up until 2:00 to finish one off.

You Broaden My Horizons

I’ve spent most of my life relatively insulated in my own little world, interacting with people who have perspectives that are similar to mine. I live in middle class suburbia, so this is easy to do, let’s face it. The book blogging community, on the other hand, is huge and diverse and dynamic. You guys challenge me to see things differently and look at issues from lots of different perspectives, and I love that!

Oh, and anytime I start to lose hope in humanity, my lovely bookish friends are right there to remind me how amazing you are!  🙂

You’re Always There—Literally

One thing I never thought about when I started blogging was how I now have friends from all around the world. When I’m being an insomniac and everyone in their right minds near me is sound asleep—I still have friends I can talk to on Twitter!

You Introduce Me to Amazing Books!

This one is pretty obvious, but still deserves a mention. This is actually a blessing and a curse: I never knew what a plethora of books I was missing before I started blogging! Now I can sometimes get weighed down by the sheer weight of my TBR, but it’s all worth it—I wouldn’t have found half of my favorite books without you!

You Share Pretty Pictures for Me To Feast My Eyes On

I wish I were a better photographer. I wish I had that artistic eye that captures beauty in unique ways. But I just don’t. So I have to rely on you, my lovely bookish friends to take gorgeous book pictures for me and Bookstagram them. You never let me down.

You’re … You

I haven’t just met a collective group of awesome people (though I have). I’ve also made some really fantastic friends—the individuals who make up our book blogging community, who make me laugh (and sometimes cry) and remind me how much books bring people together!

And even though this is a post about book bloggers, I have to mention how incredibly grateful I am for the authors that bring us those amazing books. Obviously, we wouldn’t be a book blogging community without you!

What’s your favorite part of being a book blogger or about the blogging community? Anything you’re particularly thankful for? I want to know!

  1. Before I started blogging, I didn’t really know anyone who was into reading as much as I was. Meeting other avid readers has been the best thing about joining the community, along with an endless TBR pile, lol!

  2. I love the openness of the book bloggers’ minds. I don’t think I’ve met any a**holes in the bookish community! 😀 I’ve certainly heard horror stories about weird people but my experience so far has been overwhelmingly positive. I’ve learned so much in these 2.5 years.

    Happy Thanksgiving, Nicole! 🙂

  3. This is a lovely post, and I agree with all these things! I am so thankful for the book blogging for so many reasons. I never imagined when I started blogging that it would be an actual community like this, but I’m so glad it is. And I agree with Kaja, I love how open-minded and understanding all the people in this community seem to be, and I’ve not had any bad experiences yet either.

  4. This is a beautiful post, and so different in the specific ways in which you are thankful. I hope that your Thanksgiving was joyful.
P.S. I did go ahead and post my challenge list. Feel free to grab any off the list that you might of missed, but keep in mind that there are several that I have to update once the announcement posts goes up.

  5. Before I started blogging, I only had a few bookish friends and they weren’t AS bookish as me…and many of them didn’t share my tastes in books. Blogging has really opened up that aspect of my life too and I’m endlessly grateful for that ♥ Also grateful that I got to meet you and lots of other blogger friends irl at BEA – and for all the bookish friends I’ve made along the way 🙂
