Last week on FYFA (and in my life):
Happy New Year to all my bookish friends!!
This week has gone by fast. I’ve been working on a play that I’m adapting for my homeschool co-op acting class, and our whole family has been battling a cold. Other than that, there’s not much new to report except that it’s a new year and a fresh start! Bring it on!
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog last week:
- The Gilmore Girls Reboot: I Spent Hours of My Life that I Could Have Been Reading on THAT?
- Top Ten Books I Read in 2016
- Bite-Sized Reviews of the Rest of the Books I Read in 2016 – Reviews of The Beauty of Darkness, Glass Sword, Cruel Crown, Bone Gap, Falling Over Sideways, and Highland Raven.
- 2016 End of Year Book Survey
Next week on FYFA:
- Review of Under Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall
- Review of The Cursed Queen by Sarah Fine
- Let’s Discuss: Something bookish! 🙂
Book Blogger Birthdays and Blogoversaries:
A few blogoversaries this week! Check out the calendar to see what you might have just missed or what’s coming up. (If you want to be added to the calendar, you can always fill out the birthday/blogoversary form!)
This week’s events:
- January – The Emerald City Book Review‘s Blogoversary
- January 1st – Based on a True Story‘s Blogoversary
- January 1st – The Reading Armchair‘s Blogoversary
- January 3rd – Milky Way of Books‘ Blogoversary
For Christmas:
Confession: I bought Stars Above, Fool’s Quest, and The Star-Touched Queen for myself from The Book Outlet (along with MILA 2.0: Redemption and the first two Brandon Sanderson Alcatraz books for my son, which I’ll probably read), but then told my mom to give them to me for Christmas so that I wouldn’t have to feel guilty about buying books. She was happy to oblige! (Especially since she’ll most likely be reading them too.)

Happy 2017! Enjoy your new books, and I hope your cold goes away soon.
Thanks so much!!
Hahah! I did the same thing, Nicole. So I wouldn’t worry. But my family bought me presents even when I told me not to. LOL.
Anyway, Happy New Year and happy reading!
My family bought me other presents too—but that way I didn’t have to feel any guilt at all over buying Christmas presents for myself. 🙂
I bought one book for myself. Not too bad. LOL It’s been a relaxing week for me also. Good luck with the play and hope all feel better. Happy New year!
Sometimes we just have to get ourselves a gift. LOL!
Happy New Year! Hope the colds go away and that you have an awesome start to 2017! I’ve had a few Netflix shows lately too that I’ve wondered can I have those hours back? 🙂 They can be hit or miss, but sorry to hear such a well loved show was a tad disappointing.
Nice new books, I see a new Robin Hobb (yay) and Exist Once More I’ve seen over at Shannon’s and am curious! Have a great week.
It was actually Shannon’s post that reminded me this sequel was now out. I had to go buy it!
Happy New Year! I hope your family is feeling better. I have an ear infection and a cold of some sort…it’s getting better, thank goodness, but it did put a bit of a damper on this last week.

Seems like lots of us got sick just in time for the new year!
Happy New Year! I love that you confess to buying books. You’re a book blogger! 🙂 Lol. It’s expected.
Ha! The confession was supposed to be more about me buying my own Christmas presents—but you have a point about buying books. The guilt comes from my husband’s (justified) perspective. He bought me three huge bookcases that are already overflowing and many of the books are ones I haven’t read yet. His response when he sees I’ve bought more books is generally no more than a raised eyebrow or a tiny comment, but that’s enough to get my guilt-meter going. 🙂 (Much better to just “get the books for Christmas.”)
Well, I really love that stat thing! Last year was somewhere between a suckfest and a blast. I’m kinda glad it’s over, though. I am already into the new year and almost done with my first book. I love your site and can’t wait to see what else you have going this year. Thanks for sharing some great deals! I always seem to find more books to grab lol.
I agree that 2016 has some pretty bleak moments—I’m hoping 2017 shapes up to be much better. We shall see!
Happy New Year, Nicole. Thanks for sharing my giveaway!
You’re very welcome! Always happy to share!
Happy New Year, Nicole! Love how you had your mom gift you the books you’d bought for yourself. Priceless. 🙂 Hope everyone gets over that cold soon!
Yeah, we do stuff like that all the time. We’re usually together when we shop anyway. 🙂
I actually bought something else for myself for Christmas….books, where not gifts for me but I did purchase a few… hahaha 😀
This is a common occurrence in our household. 🙂
Oh I totally understand Nicole! I’m buying ALL books of the Lunar Chronicle and I NEVER buy books 🙂
I own the others in paperback (except Winter, which I’m still trying to find in pb), and I have to confess that I kind of wanted them all that way, but I couldn’t pass up this deal at Book Outlet.
Happy New Year! So I am just now getting to the Gilmore Girls reboot. I just finished the second episode and so far, I am meh. I’m not hating it, but I’m not loving it either. I will be reading your post about it once I finish all the episodes. I just don’t want to see spoilers. 🙂
That’s a good plan. There are definitely spoilers here. I’ll be curious to see what you think in the end.
I do the same thing as you for Christmas presents, I’m glad I’m not the only one who does this lol! And I can’t wait to see what your thoughts are on Exist Once More, I hope it’s just as wonderful as the first book!
Shannon raved about Exist Once More on her blog, so I decided I needed to buy it!
