Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is:

The Ten Series I Haven’t Started (But Totally Plan To)

Okay, I need to start by saying that I JUST finished The Winner’s Curse series yesterday, so I’m feeling pretty darn proud of myself right about now. That’s a series that’s been on my TBR for ages, and I just binged all three books (in four days). But I will confess that there are MANY more series I still haven’t gotten to that I’ve been meaning to devour because you guys have flailed over them. I could probably list a hundred, but let’s go with ten, shall we?

Actually, let’s up the ante a little. I’m only going to list series where I have at least one of the books on my bookshelves—sadly, I could still easily list more than ten.

1. The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo (and Six of Crows)

I’m fairly certain I only own the first book in this trilogy, BUT I also own both of the Six of Crows books, so … yeah, I need to catch up with the rest of the world

2. Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Trilogy by Ransom Riggs

I “bought” the first two of these recently at the Scholastic Books warehouse sale (technically, I earned them for by volunteering at the sale—I managed to earn over $140 to spend on books). I plan to read the first book and then watch the movie … one of these days.

3. Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu

I bought all three of these at one of Anderson’s YA Lit Conferences awhile back so that I could get them all signed. My mom read them right away after the conference, and she thought they were fantastic. I really think I’ll love this series, so why haven’t I read it yet?

4. The Young Elites Trilogy by Marie Lu

Ditto. (Except I think I only have the first two books because the third wasn’t out at the time.)

5. The School for Good and Evil Trilogy by Soman Chainani

My son has read all three of these. My plan was to read them around the same time he did. I think that was over a year ago. Sigh. (I think these also came from a Scholastic warehouse sale at some point.)

6. The Summer Trilogy by Jenny Han

I have to throw at least one contemporary series in here, right? (Most of the contemps I own are standalones.) I bought a ginormous book with all three books in it from Sam’s Club a long time ago because I know people love this series, but I still haven’t gotten to it.

7. All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness

I got the first book in this series from my OTSP Secret Sister (last year, I think?). But then I read several reviews that said the book was really slow and I got scared. What do you guys think? Should I read this one?

8. Shatter Me Trilogy by Tahereh Mafi

I’ve had the first book in this series for a long time and I just recently got the others from The Book Outlet (’cause, you know, you need to get to that $35 threshold for free shipping—darn you, Book Outlet for being so smart!). I loved Mafi’s MG Furthermore, so I’m guessing I’ll love this series too!

9. Alienated Trilogy by Melissa Landers

This is a pure, unadulterated case of cover love. When I saw the cover for the first book, I was instantly enthralled. Then the reviews started rolling in, and some of them were meh, so I didn’t pick the book up right away. BUT I couldn’t get this series out of my head. Every time I saw that cover anywhere I would automatically think, WANT! I finally got the book from Paperbackswap (in great condition, luckily), but I still haven’t read it. At least I can look at the pretty.

10. Shades of Magic Trilogy by V.E. Schwab

I finally became a Schwab convert when I read This Savage Song and ADORED it! I went to an author event at Anderson’s and bought all of the books they had in paperback (which I believe was the first two books in this series and Vicious)

Even More Series I Own (at Least One) and STILL Haven’t Read:

Here’s a little secret. I was lazy and only chose trilogies for this list because they fit really easily into the template I created for the first one and I had plenty of series to choose from! But I figured I’d give you a little list of the rest of the series I own, so you can tell me which ones I need to read!

  • Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon – I only own the first, but I know I need to get to these.
  • The Princess Diaries Series by Meg Cabot – Again, I only own the first. Do I need to read the whole series? I’m ashamed to admit I don’t know much about these except for the movie.
  • Uglies Series by Scott Westerfield – I think I own a couple of these, and it’s a series I think I’d really like. Not sure why I haven’t jumped in.
  • The Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia – I won Beautiful Creatures and the second book from Shannon at It Starts at Midnight. But then I saw her review for the first one and she didn’t love it, so I’m not sure I should bother with it?
  • Theodore Boone Series by John Grisham – I’m not a big Grisham fan, but somehow a YA series appeals to me more? I won this whole series and gave it to my son, but he hasn’t read it yet, so I can’t get his opinion.
  • The Angel Trilogy by L.A. Weatherly – I’m ashamed to say that I won the third one in this series from Goodreads First Reads a LONG time ago, but I wasn’t paying attention to the fact that it was the third book in a series. I finally bought the first book from Book Outlet awhile back, but I still haven’t read them. Cringe.
  • The Tiger Saga by Colleen Houck – I think I bought this entire series at a YA Lit Conference one year. Haven’t started it. Sigh.
  • Anna Duology by Kendare Blake – I bought Anna Dressed in Blood at an author event at Anderson’s, but I didn’t realize until just this very moment that it’s a duology. That makes me want to get to it sooner! (Combined with my love for Three Dark Crowns)
  • Everneath Trilogy by Brodi Ashton – I think I bought this because Colleen Hoover loved the series? Or some other author I adore? Who knows?
  • Newsoul Trilogy by Jodi Meadows – I got the first book free at RT a few years ago, but I haven’t started the series yet!
  • Something Strange and Deadly Trilogy by Susan Dennard – I actually bought this trilogy for my OTSP Secret Sister last year, but my dog ATE one of the books and I inherited it! (It’s actually still in perfectly good reading condition, but not fit to be a gift.)
  • Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas – Okay, confession time. I did a survey two summers ago and said I’d read the series you guys chose for me. This one won, but I didn’t own any of the books, and by the time I got my hands on this one… I never read it. I have to confess that this series intimidates me because people seem to either love it or hate it. Still, I promised.  I have failed you!!!
  • Every Day Trilogy by David Levithan – This trilogy isn’t finished yet, so I shouldn’t feel so bad, right?
  • Breathe Duology by Sarah Crossan – My mom recently read this one, but I haven’t gotten to it.
  • Falling Kingdoms Series by Morgan Rhodes – Another one I bought at a YA Lit Conference at Anderson’s (those things are dangerous!).
  • Taken Trilogy by Erin Bowman – I think I got the first book as a giveaway at RT a few years ago?
  • For Darkness Shows the Stars Duology by Diana Peterfreund – I seriously did not even remember that I owned this book, but Goodreads says that I do, so… I’m pretty sure I told it that at some point. I’ll have to go hunt through my shelves because I know you guys have told me to read this one.
  • Passenger by Alexandra Bracken – Is this just a duology? I own the first, but haven’t read it yet. If it’s a duology, I might be more tempted.

Oh my gosh! I’m stopping there, even though there are definitely more series I could put on this list! This is really scary—I knew I had lots of unread books on my shelves, but once I start listing them out (and this is just series!), it seems a little bit crazy.

Okay, I seriously need your help. Which of these series MUST I read immediately? Which ones should I consider donating to the local library (or my giveaway/trade list)? Give me your thoughts because I want to know!

Which series should I read sooner rather than later? (Choose as many as you want)

  1. oh can I borrow your list?? 🙂 I want to read pretty much all those series too with the exception of Shatter me OMG I could NOT get through t that one!!! and Miss Peregrine. I loved book one but lost interest in the rest of the series after the movie 🙂

  2. GayAnna Weddle

There are just too many books and not nearly enough time! It does help that I can listen to some of them. Makes that long drive to work much more enjoyable. 🙂

  3. TeacherofYA

Definitely read Everneath and Peterfreud’s series. Some of my faves right there. Need to read Alienated myself!

  4. As you know I still need to read Alienated too! Though I loved the Shatter Me trilogy–can’t wait for the next installment!! So I guess we can say it’s a series now!–, The Grisha Trilogy, and Legend trilogy! I still need to finish up the Young Elites trilogy too! I waited on so many trilogies for them to be all completed because nearly all those book 2s had a killer cliffhanger, so I decided to wait. Pretty much last year they were all completed so I am behind once again!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  5. Same here with Six of crows- I need to get to those. I keep debating whether I should read the grisha stuff first, or just jump in. The School for Good and Evil and the Shatter Me books look good to me too, I’d like to tackle both of those. At some point lol.

Ooh voting! I always like voting! 🙂

    There are soooo many…

  6. Sam

I have read 5 series on your list and started 2 others, so you know I think it is a great list. Legend is one of my faves. I am getting all emotional just thinking about the ending.

  7. I tried the Grisha series and I did not like the first book so I’m not finishing it. Another author warned me off the Shatter Me series. I tried the Darker Shades of Magic series (review of the first book coming soon!) and it wasn’t my cup of tea. However, I want the next book in Schwab’s Villains series. That first book was AMAZING.

Definitely give Ms. Peregrine a shot. I still need to read the last book in the series. I read the first book in the All Souls trilogy. The last book came out when I started blogging and I just never got around to getting a copy and reading it. Probably not worth it now. I don’t recall the first two books anymore!

Oh, and the Every Day series…there was a scene in the first book that ABSOLUTELY creeped me out. It made my skin crawl and I almost stopped listening to the book. I’m definitely NOT reading any more of those.

Here’s my advice on Outlander…read through book 3. After that the books are not all Jamie & Claire. The secondary characters just aren’t as interesting and unless you love American History (specifically the Revolutionary War) they simply aren’t worth reading. She just keeps adding more and more characters which means less Jamie and Claire.

  8. Let me know what you think of the Legend series when you get to them. I read the first but was kind of unenthused. I could really feel that I was too old to be the target demographic, which isn’t usually a problem for me with YA. I’m curious to see if it was just me, or if maybe they get better as you go.

Oh gosh, I really need to get with it when it comes to series. I did pretty well with some in the past couple years. I read the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy – love those! I’m FINALLY reading The Raven King and finishing that series, and I hope to read Winter to finish the Lunar Chronicles. But from your list, I voted for Shades of Magic because I just recently read the first one and loved it – and I also need to read the rest of those! I’ve read the first Miss Peregrine and I do want to read the rest of those too!

  10. LOL. There are so many amazing-looking series out there! It’s tough to choose. I have read the whole Miss Peregrine’s series and enjoyed it. The first book is the best, but the rest of the series is exciting and unique enough to stay interesting.

Thanks for stopping by my TTT today!

  11. Shatter Me series is calling my name. So curious about it. Thanks for putting it on my radar. I voted it for you to start soon. Can’t wait to read what you think about it. If you love it, I’ll give it a try.

Anyway, The Summer series sounds great as well. It is my second choice.

    Awesome list, Nicole.???❤️

  12. I love how MANY series you are facing. Remember, it’s a GOOD problem to have.

The only one on here that I truly love is the Schwab. And I’ve been stalling on reading the third one because I love her so much that I’m afraid of what will happen if I don’t like it. Because we readers are super logical like that.

I only read one of: Grisha Trilogy, Peculiar Children, Outlander (well, two, but out of how many?!?), Shatter Me, Legend, Summer I Turned Pretty, Princess Diaries, Tiger Saga, and Every Day. Legend and Every Day were good enough that I do plan to continue. Princess Diary was fun, but works as a stand-alone. The rest just aren’t my cup of tea. (But I LOVE Six of Crows, so I’m tempted to give the Grisha trilogy another try.) Oh, and I read Uglies, but again, I felt it petered out after the first two books.

    Happy reading!

  13. Are you sure you want to know what I didn’t like? *laughs* OK I didn’t finish any of these-Shadow and Bone, Miss Peregrine, Beautiful Creatures, Legend, Shatter Me, Angel, Anna dressed in blood, Breathe, Incarnate, and I totally hated the second Uglies book-Pretties. It drove me mad though the first one was ok. I am planning to read Six of Crows though.

  14. I’ve read the first Grisha, A Discovery of Witches, and most of A Darker Shade of Magic. I didn’t like any enough to continue with the series, but you might!

Disc. of Witches is slow. I got pretty impatient with it, among other things I did not like, but I did somehow make myself finish. The others would be quicker reads and I think you would soon know if you wanted to spend more time in that world.

Good luck choosing where to start your series adventures!

  15. Pascale Hutton

The All Souls Trilogy is not slow – it’s wonderful, I’ve read it twice now and was contemplating rereading it again this summer. Very excited about the movie/series adaptation the author has mentioned a couple times.

  16. I finished the Winner’s Trilogy last month and I have never known a book series to cause me so much pain. I’m glad I read the trilogy because the ending was everything I hoped it would be but it was one hell of a journey haha. I’d definitely recommend reading the Shades of Magic trilogy. The characters are wonderful, morally ambiguous and very complex and the world building is exquisite.

  17. Wow, so many series! Some of these are on my TBR list. I actually own Shadow & Bone, but that hasn’t motivated me to read it yet. I read the first Miss Peregrine’s book. It was just okay, so I didn’t continue with the series. I need to finish the Shades of Magic books. I’m pretty proud of myself for actually reading the first two. Now I need to get the last one.

  18. I feel your pain! I have a ridiculous list of series I want to read and an even more ridiculous of series I still need to finish. I’ve actually read the first book in half of those trilogies. 😛
I’ve only recently read Throne of Glass and Darker Shade of Magic myself and of all of these, I’d say those two are the series you should try; they’re the ones I can’t wait to finish! Also, if you haven’t read Vicious yet, you must. That’s the first of Schwab’s books I read and it is, frankly, amazing. I absolutely loved it.
Thanks for checking out My TTT!

  19. How did I not know Every Day is a trilogy, I thought it was a duology! I’ve only read the first book, and have the second on my TBR, but now that I know there’s a third I really need to get on that!

  20. Jo

The Shades of Magic trilogy is so amazing, you should definitely get to that ASAP. I really love Throne of Glass too. Princess Diaries I could take or leave, it was okay, but honestly I like the movies more! The first Uglies is good, the rest of the series isn’t really worth it. I really liked the Breathe duology, it’s quite different from a lot of other dystopias. I also need to read the Grisha Trilogy and Shatter Me trilogy so you’re not alone there!

  21. So. Many. Series! And we have so many in common. Grisha series, Legend trilogy, Alienated trilogy, Falling Kingdoms. The Shatter Me series was a lot of fun. Outlander is excellent, although I think I’m currently 2 books behind (I think I’ve read the first 5). I’ve given up on a couple you’ve listed, though. Miss Peregrine’s – I didn’t continue after the first book. Thought it was just okay. The Caster Chronicle – read the first book and had no interest in continuing. With The Summer I turned Pretty I just lost interest before I ever read them. I recently gave the whole trilogy away to a friend.

  22. Great list! So many series – and I know there were lots more I could have added to mine too.

I’m curious about the ‘Miss Peregrine’ book because of the film, and of course Melissa’s alien series and Jenny’s ‘Summer’ books made my list also. Marie’s ‘Legend’ series is one I recently picked up because of all the hype, and I haven’t read a book by her. Yet. Here’s hoping we enjoy all of these! 🙂

    Thanks for visiting Finding Wonderland.

  23. I voted ADSOM of course, like most, haha. Legend and The Grisha are two series that I enjoyed reading. I read The Young Elites earlier this year but I wasn’t really happy with that one unfortunately. I read A Discovery of Witches and spend most of the time rolling my eyes at the romance. Sorry. It is slow and as soon as I finished I got rid of my copy and the second one I had already bought. 🙁 But I know most people seemed to have liked it.

  24. Deb

I love the Outlander series and disagree with the reader who suggests ending at Book 3. Book 4 is one of my favorites and I really like the younger characters. I will say she has a few books in the series that are misses (namely 5 and 7). Books 4 and later are set in America which I really like.

I loved Uglies though it’s been a while! Westerfeld is great. Uglies felt super-innovative when I first read it though maybe less so now. I also love the Schwab trilogy, I’ve read books 1 and 2. Didn’t care for Every Day though.

  25. Jen

Yay for binge reading The Winner’s Curse! See, now I have that series listed on our TTT list lol. Ohhh I need to read The Legend Trilogy too! And Passenger is just a duology. I have both of them and need to read that series also. Oh man, both of these series I didn’t even list and I have all 5 of those books, sigh. #BookwormProblems Good luck with reading all of those series!
