Top 10 of 2017: Favorite Females

Posted December 26, 2017 by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction in Let's Discuss, Top Ten Tuesday / 26 Comments

I decided to participate in the Top 10 of 2017 Event, which is being hosted over at Kimberlyfaye Reads. Each day has a different top ten list associated with it (you can see the list in the image above). You can choose to complete some or all of the lists (I’m not sure yet if I’ll be doing them all). Feel free to join in at any time!

TOP TEN FEMALE CHARACTERS I READ IN 2017

I’m using books that I read in 2017 for this list, not necessarily books that were published in 2017.

Iku Kasahara

1. Iku Kasahara from Library Wars

I mean, she’s fighting for life, liberty and the pursuit of reading. What else could you possibly want?

2. Meg from Etched in Bone

Meg is one of my all-time favorite characters, and the latest book is no exception. She’s got a great balance of strength and vulnerability. And I love how she doesn’t let the Others push her around!

3. Lee Westfall from Walk on Earth a Stranger

I adored Lee’s strength and versatility. Basically anyone who survived through the Pioneer days would have to be amazing, and Lee was no exception!

4. Tilla from Royal Bastards

In my review, I described Tilla as “tough, smart, fierce and loyal, but she’s not completely fearless and she’s not some sort of superhero.” Sounds pretty perfect, right? I adored this book, and Tilla was a big part of the reason why.

Scarlett by Jeanlee19 @ Deviant Art

5. Scarlett from Caraval

I was a huge fan of Scarlett in Caraval. Her dedication to her sister and her refusal to give up were incredibly impressive. My love of Scarlett was probably helped by Rebecca Soler’s stupendous performance in the audiobook.

6. Eliza from Eliza and Her Monsters

Eliza is a webcomic artist, so right there, she’s easy to love. Of course, her online persona and Eliza IRL don’t always match up—but I loved discovering her true self.

7. Esther from A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares

Esther is quirky and fun, even if she does have a few fears holding her back. Her journey to rid herself of them is fabulous to watch.

8. Starr Carter from The Hate U Give

It would be practically impossible not to feel for Starr. She spends her life suspended between two worlds, and she doesn’t feel like she truly fits into either. When her friend is killed in front of her, the choices she makes have huge implications, and it’s hard to imagine being in her position.

Blue Sargent by BlackBirdInk @ DeviantArt

9. Blue Sargent from The Raven Cycle

I know I’m behind the rest of the world with this series, but I couldn’t leave Blue off this list. Every character in this series is pretty much amazing.

10. Zivah from Rosemarked

Zivah is put in a nearly impossible situation and she handles it with as much strength and dignity as she can muster. She’s the type of character who I find myself thinking about long after I’ve put the book down.

Who were your favorite females of 2017? I want to know!

  1. These are such awesome choices! No shock that I found myself nodding along to them, too! Lee for sure, Starr my goodness yes, Zivah is a VERY strong female character. I probably would have forgotten Tilla, Esther, and Eliza, but you are SO right, they really are great picks!!
