The Mid-Year Book Freak-Out Tag

I saw this tag first over at Read All the Things, but it’s been around for years and it’s making its way around the blogosphere!

Best book you’ve read so far in 2018?

Aru Shah and the End of Time is definitely my favorite MG I’ve read this year. This book has such gorgeous writing and the best MG voice I’ve ever read. It’s the kind of book that makes me wonderfully happy and weep in jealousy at the same time.  🙂

YA is harder, but I’m going with A Thousand Perfect Notes by C.G. Drews. It’s really hard not to be biased here because it’s Cait, guys (and no matter how hard we try to check our biases at the door when we review, it can’t be done completely).  But I just loved this story. It broke my heart and featured Cait’s beautiful writing and it was just wonderful.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2018?

Obsidio was AMAZING! This was an awesome way to wrap up this series.

New release you haven’t read yet but want to?

Oh, pshaw! How about 500 of them? No? Only one? How about two?

Okay, then I’m going all the way back to the beginning of the year here and I’ll say, You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone by Rachel Lynn Solomon and Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman. I won both of these, so I have no excuses. None.

Most-anticipated release for the second half of 2018?

Why do I have to wait till September for Two Dark Reigns? It’s killing me!

Biggest disappointment?

I’ve had a few (one sequel that sort of let me down), but for the most part I’ve been happy!

Biggest surprise?

Timekeeper by Tara Sim was SO incredibly good, and I just wasn’t expecting to love it so much. Don’t get me wrong, I thought I’d like it, but this book blew me away!

Favorite new author?

Maureen Goo writes fun contemporaries. I read both The Way You Make Me Feel and I Believe in a Thing Called Love this year, and I’ll definitely be reading her future books.

Newest favorite character?

Rhys from A Quiet Kind of ThunderFirst off, I love seeing a Deaf character in the spotlight. Secondly, Rhys is the kind of guy who made me smile the whole way through the book!

Books that made you happy?

I loved ALL of these books! (And the ones I’ve already mentioned.)

Favorite book-to-movie adaptation?

Love, Simon was a fantastic adaptation and it made my heart happy!

Most beautiful books you bought, received or read so far this year?

LOOK at all the prettiness!

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Um, this question is ridiculous. ALL of them. I mean, I know I can’t, but … all of them. Seriously, just thinking about this gives me a stomachache, so I’m not going to list them here. My blog is aptly named. I have a problem.

  1. Oh gosh, I’m with you on needed to read ALL the books. I’m so glad you loved Timekeeper – I have the second one and need to get on that by the end of the year. I also really loved The Ambrose Deception and Refugee. 🙂

  2. I need to get a copy of Obsidio. I liked the first two books, and the photos I’ve seen of Obsidio look awesome. Thunderhead is a really good sequel, but I didn’t like it as much as Scythe. Good luck with your reading goals for the rest of the year!

Aah, so many books you loved that are on my TBR! I still need to read A Thousand Perfect Notes! But because of a blog event, I’ve had to delay reading it so I could read the books I have lined up. But I am so excited to have my heart broken! I have I Believe in a Thing Called Love and Children of Blood and Bone on my TBR, and they both sound so good! Soon, sooooon! I so want to read You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone! And I’ve heard good things about Timekeeper, but there’s something about it that put me off.

You’ve had a great reading year so far! Hope the rest of the year is also full of great books!

  4. Awww I’m so so honoured to be on your list!! ??THANK YOU. DID I MENTION YOU’RE THE BEST?! *flails* And also ohh I loved Love Simon (I mean, who couldn’t?! It was so stinkin’ adorable!) And also Timekeeper is one of my total favourites. I mean to read it this year and then go onto Chainbreaker. I’m just…so behind on my reading. ?I mean, what bookworm isn’t?! BUT STILL.

    • I read some great YA books this year, and I kept asking myself if I was being biased, but I really think your book is one that’s going to stick with me long past when I read it, and that’s the sign of amazing writing, in my opinion.

Oh, and I’m right there with you with the number of books on my TBR—it’s impossible to balance everything. And it makes me SO SAD!

  5. Yaaaas! I love A Quiet Kind of Thunder! I’m so happy to see it getting some love. Also, this post has made me really excited to read some books that have been waiting on my TBR for me to read them. I can’t believe I haven’t read Obsidio yet! This was just the reminder I needed.

  6. Love, Simon is totally winning for the favourite book to film adaption lately because I am seeing it on all the blogs. I also agree that Children of Blood and Bone made me so happy. I’m glad that even though you’ve had some disappointments none were so bad that you had a worst one yet. That’s great news 😀 I need to read the Illuminae Files series because all the reviews of Obsidio were so promising !!

  7. I’ll have to add the Aru Shah book to my pile! ?

Those Valentines editions are wonderful. ?

I keep forgetting to check to see if my library has the ebook of Children of Blood and Bone. I have been anxious to read it. ???
