BLINK Summer Reading Tour: Giveaway & McCall Hoyle's Top Ten Addictions

When I saw that Blink YA was doing a summer reading tour, I knew that I wanted to jump on board. I’ve read and enjoyed most of the books on this tour (I still need to read Pretty in Punxsutawney and Swing—definitely hoping to get to those soon), and I figured it’s a great opportunity for me to give you guys a chance to win ALL of them!

I also get to share McCall Hoyle’s top ten addictions with you, so make sure you scroll down to see those!

BLINK Summer Reading Tour: Giveaway & McCall Hoyle’s Top Ten AddictionsMeet the Sky by McCall Hoyle

It all started with the accident. The one that caused Sophie’s dad to walk out of her life. The one that left Sophie’s older sister, Meredith, barely able to walk at all.

With nothing but pain in her past, all Sophie wants is to plan for the future—keep the family business running, get accepted to veterinary school, and protect her mom and sister from another disaster. But when a hurricane forms off the coast of North Carolina’s Outer Banks and heads right toward their island, Sophie realizes nature is one thing she can’t control.

After she gets separated from her family during the evacuation, Sophie finds herself trapped on the island with the last person she’d have chosen—the reckless and wild Finn Sanders, who broke her heart freshman year. As they struggle to find safety, Sophie learns that Finn has suffered his own heartbreak; but instead of playing it safe, Finn’s become the kind of guy who goes surfing in the eye of the hurricane. He may be the perfect person to remind Sophie how to embrace life again, but only if their newfound friendship can survive the storm.

About the Author

McCall Hoyle writes honest YA novels about friendship, first love, and girls finding the strength to overcome great challenges. She is a high school English teacher. Her own less-than-perfect teenage experiences and those of the girls she teaches inspire many of the struggles in her books. When she’s not reading or writing, she’s spending time with her family and their odd assortment of pets—a food-obsessed beagle, a grumpy rescue cat, and a three-and-a-half-legged kitten. She has an English degree from Columbia College and a master’s degree from Georgia State University. She lives in a cottage in the woods in North Georgia where she reads and writes every day.

McCall Hoyle’s Top Ten Addictions

1. Dogs

Emily Dickinson said, “Dogs are better than humans because they know but do not tell.” And I agree. My best friend, Gordon the golden retriever, is lying at my feet this very second. Sometimes, I think he’s more human than many humans. He certainly embodies the true meaning of unconditional love.

2. Guacamole

It’s such a fun word and such a yummy food. I’m pretty sure I could live off guacamole and chips and salsa for a year or two at least.

3. Chai Tea Lattes

I’m not sure whether I’m addicted to the combination of sugar, spices, and cream, or if I’m addicted to the feel-good endorphins released when I allow myself to slow down, read a few pages of a book, and sip some warm tea.

4. Books

Life is just better with books. I don’t worry about getting old. The way I see it is when I’m too old to participate in the more physically strenuous facets of life, that just means more time to read the books that are constantly piling up beside my bed, on mental reading lists, and on physical lists in my journal and on my phone.

5. Naps

Like books, life is just better with lots of little power naps.

6. Rainy Days

I am a constantly on-the-go kind of person. If I’m not doing something, I’m planning what I need to be doing. There’s just something about a gray day that forces me to slow down a little, and I love that.

7. Teaching

I’m not going to lie. Some days I want to stay in bed. Inevitably, I drag myself out from under the cozy covers and head to school. Without fail, my students start to trickle into my classroom, and I’m energized. I’m pretty sure that’s how we know when we’ve found the right profession—when our work gives us energy instead of sapping it.

8. Fall

It’s just plain hot in Georgia in July and August. Fall means all of my favorite things—long walks in the woods with my golden retriever, cozy sweaters, and all things pumpkin. Need I say more?

9. Sweaters

Soft sweaters make me feel safe and cozy, like I’m swaddled in a cocoon and all’s right with the world.

10. The Outer Banks

My first two books are both set on the ruggedly beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina—a strip of barrier islands jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean—complete with lighthouses, wild horses, and fried soft shell crabs. What else could a girl ask for?

  1. I’m all in the first 5 on your list! Especially dogs. I don’t know where I would be without mine.

I just moved to the PNW from FL so I might be fearing all the rain and cold coming my way so I’m ok holding off on that lol I do love a normal amount, passing shower int he afternoon though.

And I am looking forward to being able to wear sweaters and boots again in the fall.
