Updating the Blog (a Little) and I Need Your Opinions! Let’s Discuss.

If you read my recap of the SCBWI conference I went to, you know that one of my takeaways was that I really need my name to be more prominent on my website. Because of that, I’ve decided to add it to my header. BUT when I added my name, I felt inspired to possibly make another little change …

What do you guys think? I thought it might be fun if my fox girl looked a bit more like me since my name is going right there next to her. And now that I have my purple highlights I thought, why not include them? (Yeah, I know, if I really wanted to capture my current look I’d shorten her hair too, but I’m not doing that.)

I’m still sort of on the fence because the yellow-blonde hair really pops, and I’m wondering if the brown blends in a bit too much. Am I losing something by changing it? Is it silly to add in the purple? Should I just go with brown?

I want your (VERY) honest opinions, so I’m including a poll. That way you don’t have to tell me in the comments what you really think. But feel free to comment too if you want to (still vote in the poll if you do so I have an accurate count)!

  1. It’s a toughie. I ended up voting to leave as is only because I think you’re right- the yellow blond color kinda pops? But… you can also make the case that changing it would match what your hair is NOW, and that’s good right? Haha indecision. So that was my thinking. πŸ™‚ I think it’ll look good either way though, honestly. And you can always change it back if you want, right?

    • Fun is a good word for it! I’ve realized that I really like bright colors. I could sit and stare at my rainbow bookcase all day. I even smile every time I pull out my brightly colored coffee mug in the morning. Why not transfer that effect to myself, right. I mean, if I can feel the urge to smile when I look in the mirror, that’s a big win! πŸ™‚

    • Hahaha! Yes, that’s the way my brain works too. Either leave it or change it to the purple highlights … but I kept changing my mind! I think I probably will go with brown and purple. It’s winning in the poll, and lots of people pointed out that it’s not like I’m stuck with it forever if I decide I don’t like it. πŸ™‚

    • You make a good point about changing it back. For some reason, I treat every blog decision like it’s irreversible or somehow hugely weighty. If I like the purple hair, why not try it out? I think I’m going for it! (It helps my indecisive heart that this option is winning by a good margin in the poll too. LOL!)

  2. I agree that the blond pops more, and that the purple is cool. However, since it seems the point is to draw more attention to your branding (blog name and your name) I would go with the brown hair. That allows the text to be the focus of the image.

  3. I love the inclusion of the purple but you do need to make the contrast a little more pronounced. Especially smaller. I think an ombre might work well. You may want to add another pop of purple somewhere else too to balance the colors a little more. Great idea!!

    • I do think the size makes a difference—the normal header will be the same size as the current one, of course. An ombre’s an interesting thought. Hmmmm…. It’s really tough to get the colors to look natural and match up with the rest of the header (it has to look sort of watercolory), so that’s been a challenge in itself!

  4. I would love for it to have your purple highlights as well! Also did you update your about me photo? I think I am used to seeing you with long hair so it’s lovely to have a new photo!! You look great πŸ™‚
