Books YOU (Yes, You!) Should Nominate for a Cybils Award

Posted October 11, 2019 by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction in Cybils / 12 Comments

The nominations for the Cybils Awards are in full swing, and we want to make sure all of the very best books get nominated. That means we need YOU to nominate. Yep, basically, if you’re reading this right now, you can nominate. You don’t need to be a blogger or a professional in the book world in order to do so (but if you are, that’s great too!). And it only takes a minute to add in your nominations for your favorite kidlit books published between 10/16/18 and 10/15/19.

Here are the categories (click on the link for a description of each):

Fiction Picture Books and Board Books
Early Reader/Early Chapter Books
Elementary/Middle Grade Nonfiction
Elementary/Middle Grade Speculative Fiction
Middle Grade Fiction
Poetry
Graphic Novels
YA Fiction
YA Speculative Fiction
Junior/Senior High Nonfiction

I’ve already put in most of my nominations, but there are some great books that have been left behind. (Each person can nominate only one book in each category). I’m going to throw out some of my favorites that haven’t been nominated yet. No pressure, but if you happen to love any of these books too (and you don’t already have another book in the category you’d like to nominate even more), here are some ideas:

Elementary/Middle Grade Speculative Fiction:

  • UPDATE: THIS HAS BEEN NOMINATED (by me. LOL!)—Cape by Kate Hannigan
  • UPDATE: THIS HAS BEEN NOMINATED—Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia (Lili, I noticed you were a big fan of this one—have you nominated anything yet? Are you planning to?)

Early Chapter Books:

  • Awesome Dog 5000 by Justin Dean – I wasn’t sure which category this would be accepted in, but based on the fact that they accepted Amelia Fang in this category, Awesome Dog 5000 would work there too!

YA Fiction:

  • Sorry for Your Loss by Jessie Ann Foley (ahem, Sam, I know you loved this one. Planning on nominating anything else?)
  • Only a Breath Apart by Katie McGarry (I happened to notice that Jen loved it! And also Lindsi. Either of you need a suggestion for a nomination?)
  • UPDATE: THIS HAS BEEN NOMINATED—Scars Like Wings by Erin Stewart

YA Speculative Fiction:

Obviously, I’m not trying to push any of you into nominating anything specific, but I would encourage everyone to nominate books you love! If you’re like me, the idea of nominating sometimes feels overwhelming: poring through the list of what’s already been nominated and comparing it to your own list of read books can seem like a lot of work. So I’m just trying to help you all out with some suggestions. LOL! (By the way, they encouraged us to do this—I’m not like going rogue and cheating or anything. 🙂 )

Here are the lists of what has been nominated so far (click on the link to see the list for each category):

So I urge all of you to NOMINATE! Let’s get our favorite books all onto these lists!! Nominations are open until 10/15, so act now!

HOW TO NOMINATE:

  • Go to the Cybils nomination page.
  • Click Public Nominations.
  • Enter your email address and then create a login for Cybils.
  • You’ll see a list of all the categories with a Nominate button next to each. You can nominate one book per category (it’s not required that you nominate for ALL the categories—nominate in one category or more!).

Let me know in the comments if you decide to nominate any of these!! (Or, if you nominate other stuff, let me know that too!!)

Have you nominated any books for the Cybils Awards? Do you plan to? I want to know!

    • I just realized that I never said HOW to nominate in this post! You actually don’t even need to create a post (though you are welcome to, and it would be a great way to help encourage others to nominate too!). To nominate, simply go to https://database.cybils.com/nominate.php and fill out the form. You can nominate in any of the categories that you want (or ALL of them if you want!). (I’m going to go right now and add that to the post!)

I’m glad that you didn’t mind being tagged! I was hesitant to mention specific bloggers in my post, but decided it wouldn’t hurt to mention friends who I knew loved the books I was mentioning. No pressure to nominate Tristan if there’s another book in the category you’d love to see nominated even more! 🙂

    • Yay! I’m glad you nominated. Today is the last day for public nominations (I believe), so you might want to go ahead and finish up your nominations. Of course, you don’t have to nominate Slayer—I just noticed that you loved it too, so I thought I’d throw it out there as a suggestion!

  1. thanks so much Nicole! I love how you’ve tagged folks–it’s always great to get more people aware of the Cybils! I have a whole list of Elementary/middle grade speculative fiction that hasn’t been nominated yet over at my place–https://charlotteslibrary.blogspot.com/2019/10/elementarymiddle-grade-speculative.html

  2. Jen

Thank you so much for tagging me! I’ve never voted before, but I just did. And Only a Breath Apart was such a beautiful story, it easily stole my heart. ❤️

  3. Sam@wlabb

I just looked at that list, and I love so many of the books on it. I am glad to see Scars Like Wings got a nod, because it was wonderful!
