Sunday Post: Book Pre-order Campaigns & Giveaways Galore – 3/22/20

Posted March 22, 2020 by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction in Sunday Post / 48 Comments

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

This past week on FYFA (and in my life):

Hope everyone has been keeping themselves busy! I haven’t been outside my house except to go to the grocery store since Saturday. And now we’re under an official stay-at-home order, so we won’t be leaving for at least the next couple of weeks!! But so far we’ve been keeping ourselves entertained.

  • We’ve watched five movies:
    • The Maze Runner & The Scorch Trials: We’d seen TMZ before, and we enjoyed it again the second time, but I’ll confess that TST had us all a little bored. At some point we’ll probably watch the third movie, but we decided to move onto something else
    • Venom: We all loved this one a lot more than we were expecting to. I was especially surprised at how funny it was!
    • Contagion: Yep, you read that right. We gave in to curiosity and watched Contagion. It was really interesting to see how the fictional virus and its consequences compared to our real-life version.
    • Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Again, really enjoyable—I wasn’t sure I was going to love the cartoon style at first, but it definitely grew on me, and I love this new version of Spider-man!
  • We’ve played board games (Yahtzee, Farkle, Name Five).
  • We’ve done crafts: Danielle and I did string art projects that we had left in the basement from when she was younger. And then she and Jade painted their own custom squishies (they watched a video before Christmas so they could make custom squishies of our dogs, which turned out so cute!! I’ll have to hunt them down to take a pic—everything’s been moved since we were painting).
  • I read two books: More Than We Can Tell by Brigid Kemmerer and Don’t Check Out This Book! by Kate Klise.
  • We did some more home improvement. Managed to get up a decent amount more trim last Sunday and yesterday (we’re still really only doing it on the weekends since Scott is busy working from home). (If you want to see a pic of what we’ve been doing, you can check out last week’s Sunday Post.)

So, we’re doing just fine. Anybody else having weird concerns about minor health things, though? (I had a whole long thing here about it, but decided to leave it at that). LOL!

Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

Book Blogger Birthdays and Blogoversaries:

Birthday-150 Blogoversary-150x150

Here are the birthdays and blogoversaries for this week! I hope you’ll go wish these bloggers well on their special days! Make sure you check out the calendar to see what you might have just missed or what’s coming up. (If you want to be added to the calendar, it’s easy! Just fill out the birthday/blogoversary form.)

Book Haul:

Purchased:

I was able to purchase a copy of my friend Kim Oclon’s debut, Man Up, a little early! I already read the book and loved it.

BLOGGER FRIENDS: Kim’s release has been a bit marred by the current circumstances. Her book releases 4/22, not great timing, and her events have had to be pushed back. If anyone is interested in reviewing a YA LGBT story (with a high school baseball backdrop), please let me know in the comments and I’ll pass your info along to her. I know Kim would greatly appreciate it, and I can attest to the fact that it’s a great book!

  1. I’m laughing that y’all watched Contagion. Very on the nose. 🙂 We’ve seen all three Maze Runner movies and while the first was entertaining I though the other two were pretty lacking. I loved More Than We Can Tell. Rev is one of my favorite fictional characters ever. I know what you mean about being hypersensitive to “symptoms.” Every sneeze or cough takes on new weight now. It’s easy to let your imagination take hold.

  2. Nicole, it sounds like you are spending your time in isolation very well: watching films, playing games, reading and doing home improvements. Whether it is imaginary or not, I hope you feel all better soon – I know it is hard not to be paranoid over every little perceived change in health! Stay safe, look after yourself and happy reading!

    Here’s my Sunday Post: https://thebookwormchronicles.wordpress.com/2020/03/22/sunday-reflection-22nd-march-2020/ 🙂

    • Yes, I’m trying to curb the paranoia, but every time I convince myself that a random symptom is nothing, something else comes up. Now I’m actually thinking I probably just passed a small kidney stone (since I have had actual, verifiable symptoms of something like that). I’m going to talk to my doctor friend today to see if she thinks I need to do anything but just see if it gets any worse. At least we’re having fun at home! 🙂

  3. This week was spring break so we have been pretty lax. I hope we do a bit more routine this week. We like being home. I’ve been too moody about reading though so I hope that passes also. We don’t watch much tv/movies but we do like board games. We haven’t played since we moved so we should do that.

Have a healthy week and enjoy some good reads!

  4. Wow! You guys were really busy! I had idealistic hopes of popping a movie in this weekend, but didn’t. I did manage to finish my current read just a little while ago. I wanted to get some bookstagram pics done but really only got through 3 ideas which wasn’t much. Lol. Since there’s stay at home orders about in Missouri now too, I’m wondering what exactly my commute will look like since I absolutely have to go to work. Should be interesting. Though I feel like I need to be wearing a hazmat suit since there’s soooo many people in our building. Stay safe friend!

Nice new reads too! All new to me ones but I hope you will enjoy them all!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

That’s great you are staying busy. I’ve been doing okay so far, but I do need to keep my mind focused on other things. I’m going to try and read more, and hopefully do some scrapbooking. My family has been watching a lot of movies.

  6. We’ve been playing some Yahtzee here too. 🙂 And Trouble. Nothing like a good game to lighten the mood and pass some time! And Contagion is quite the movie, huh? I remember seeing it at the theater with my mom when it came out- seems eerily prescient now!

And yes- after reading some frankly terrifying articles and accounts of how the virus affects people, I had worries every time I felt a twinge or chest tightness or ache lol. It’s scary stuff! 🙂

Take care this week and be well.

  7. I’m enjoying reading how everyone is staying busy! “Luckily”?? we were at the end of having our floors redone when Corona hit peak concern in our area of Texas a week ago, so we’ve had lots to keep us busy as we put our house back in order. My husband is also tackling a new project to build me a shelving system in our bedroom for all (most of) my books, and I’ll be anxious to unpack them from their boxes. I’ve actually been reading less. I’m not sure if it’s because we’re busy or I’m just too distracted. Hopefully that will change. And yes, I’m a bit of a paranoid hypochondriac, so I understand about each cough and sniffle becoming a worry. 😉 Stay safe and healthy!

  8. Oh my! You’ve got so much great information. I’m afraid I’ll fall down the rabbit’s hole if I start entering all the giveaways – making a note to come back later, when I’ve got some reading done 🙂 And so sweet of you to keep track of all the blogaversaries! Hope things are going well for you and yours.

  9. I think our governed is about to hand out the official can’t go anywhere order. We’ve only been going to the grocery store when necessary and a walk in the (empty) park but it’s been nice to get out a little.

But it’s important to hunker down so this will pass sooner rather than later.

    Thanks for sharing my giveaway.

  10. I am glad you have been able to enjoy watching so many films! I liked the first maze runner film, then the second one is okay and the last one is just a mess. You’re not missing out if you don’t watch it. I thought Venom wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be and I really loved Spiderman Into the Spiderverse! And yay for other things keeping you busy and safe too ^.^

  11. We’ve done ALL THE THINGS, and everyone’s getting a little stir crazy. We were going on walks and bike rides, but the weather has been soggy and wet the last few days. Womp. My son keeps asking to play with his friends in the neighborhood, and wants to know when he can go back to school. The girls are just bananas because they’re three. They miss Story Time at the library and playground visits. I’m so bummed for them. Also, keeping them entertained prevents me from getting a lot of reading done. :/

  12. It feels like more and more people are under orders to stay at home! The order came in for us on Monday. So far, we’re doing ok! I was expecting more dramas with us all cooped up and trying to balance working from home and home schooling.

I really enjoyed Into The Spiderverse which surprised me. Venom and Maze Runner I haven’t watched.

Hope the next week of staying at home goes as well as this one for you!
