Sunday Post: Book Pre-order Campaigns & Giveaways Galore – 4/12/20

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

This past week on FYFA (and in my life):

Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate!! This Easter feels more than a little strange—online services have been fine, but I’ll confess that the Good Friday service just wasn’t the same via a TV screen. The solemnity of Jesus’s death is somewhat lost when you’re doing communion on your couch with sparkling water and a loaf of sandwich bread. Obviously, it’s all worth it though—I can manage a teensy sacrifice to keep people safe while celebrating Jesus’s huge sacrifice to keep us all eternally safe!

Here’s what we’ve been up to while stuck indoors this week:

  • Online school. The district has decided that Wednesdays will be a planning day for the teachers, so the kids only have make-up work or time to finish things up that day. Plus, no school on Friday, so this week didn’t feel too bad.
  • We watched:
    • My two younger kids and I watched Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2. We all enjoyed them—my son was the one who kept asking to watch the second one.  🙂
  • I read/listened to four books:
    • First off, I read Dramatically Ever After by Isabel Bandeira, which is a cute teen romance.
    • Then I read If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo because it was Danielle Hammelef’s pick for the latest Make Me Read It Giveaway. I loved it! (Though I still love Birthday more.)
    • Then I really wanted a quick, light read, so I picked up Little Dog, Lost by Marion Dane Bauer. This sweet little middle grade verse novel hit the spot!
    • Finally, since I went grocery shopping this week (at both Sam’s and Mariano’s) I listened to The Darkest Star by Jennifer Armentrout. This is my favorite of hers in quite a while—I didn’t want to stop reading when I got home from the stores, so I played Wordscapes on my phone while finishing it off last night.
  • I wrote a whole post about how my kids are reading again, but a true miracle has occurred—my husband is reading a book!!! Guys, no kidding, I can’t remember the last time my husband read a book for pleasure. He’s listened to a few audiobooks in the past but not for a while. When he asked me to find him a book I thought he’d like, I just about had a heart attack and then scrambled to find something. I finally came up with The Martian—he’s loving it!! Yes, score!!!
  • We did more of the work on our trim for the windows in the family room. We didn’t get a ton done this week because my husband was actually really busy with work. He’s been working with a company that makes ventilators, so they’ve gone into super overtime mode to get them up and running.
  • I’m participating in Camp NaNoWriMo, and I’m actually making headway on my verse novel finally!
  • I’m working on a second edit for a client’s novel. I did the first edit for it at the end of the year, but she had a very sad major life disaster that delayed her getting it back to me.
  • I read and commented on half of the wrap-ups in the March round-up and will get to the other half next week!

Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

  1. This blog could become a family affair with all the reading going on over there. It warms my heart to hear about so much bookish activity. Camp Rock. That’s a blast from the past. I actually drove the Bethel (where they had Woodstock) to see the JoBros/Demi Lovato Camp Rock tour. I know you’re jealous. *eye roll* Sounds like you all are keeping busy and being productive.

  2. It always feels like a milestone when the reluctant reader comes to you asking for a recommendation! Lol! Glad things are going well for you and your family despite all the crazy! Hope this week continues to be smooth and calm!

Yay for new reads! Whatever they are I hope you enjoy them both!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  3. It is definitely a weird Easter. We’d usually be at a huge family gathering celebrating, so it’s very strange not doing anything. I miss family gathering… and all the yummy food. Lol.

That is awesome that your husband is reading! I myself finally got out of a reading slump, so I’m happy about that. Though I have been enjoying my time of watching a bunch of anime and movies, sooo ?

    Happy Easter!

  4. I was just telling my sister that we needed to rewatch Camp Rock! That was a huge part of my childhood. I am still a huge Jonas Brothers fan. I think it’s really good to rely on nostalgia these days. Not only does it put you in a good mood but it also makes you hope for happier days like the ones in the past.

  5. I love that your husband is reading a book, I wish mine would read with me. He always asks what book I’m reading these days so that’s a good thing 🙂

  6. That does sound like an odd Easter service doing it in the comfort of your own home. It’s great so many churches have taken things online for this pandemic, though. And just think how nice it’ll be to be able to go back in person when it’s all over (then you might be missing the comfort of the couch and sparkling water. I know I’m going to be missing the lie ins and short commute to my sofa to start my working day when things go back to normal). And awesome, you’re getting the whole family into reading! I think we’re all trying new things while we’re at home because we’re getting a bit bored of the usual things which fill our time.

    • Oh, I didn’t know that you were friends with Isabel! I met her at my very first BEA and talked to her for a really long time as we stood in one of the lines. LOL! She was the absolute sweetest, and I think that her books fit her personality really well! 🙂

  7. Happy Easter to you too! Our pastor in online church talked about how a lot of things are cancelled, but Easter can’t be cancelled and I really appreciated that. I hope you will enjoyed celebrating! The Camp Rock films give me such a throwback. Yay for your husband also writing a book and starting his writing journey. I hope Nano is going well ^.^

  8. Ahh I’m late so Happy Belated Easter! 🙂 It’s so, so great that your husband is reading a book and enjoying it, YAY mission accomplished haha 🙂 I’m also glad you are making progress on your writing. Best of luck for NaNoWriMo! <3
