The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

This past week on FYFA (and in my life):

Happy New Year! Absolutely no one is sad to see 2020 go. I am praying that 2021 will bring good things for all of us!

  • Painting. We spent the early part of the day on New Year’s Eve painting the upstairs hallway and stairwell. First, my husband had to build a scaffold because the stairwell walls are so high. Then we got to painting. We did the first coat and then finished everything on New Year’s Day. This is our last major painting project. Yay!!

Here’s a pic of the scaffolding (you can also see the old sage green color) and the new paint job, which is a very light gray (not a great pic, but you get the idea).

  • Games We Played:
    • Trick Question. We played this game again on New Year’s. It’s a fantastic game to play as a family!
    • Escape Room the Game: Alice in Wonderland. On Christmas, we played the Titanic version of this game, but it comes with three different escape rooms, so we did another one on New Year’s Eve. We’ve really had fun with this game!

  • Did Math? This made me laugh, so I had to include it. We were using one of my older daughter’s linear algebra tests as scratch paper for our game, and afterward my younger daughter Danielle wanted to try to do a very complicated problem herself (with a little help from Jade). So, the two of them spent a good chunk of time sitting at the kitchen table working on linear algebra for New Year’s. We really know how to party around here!!

  • Hello Fresh!
    • We decided to try out Hello Fresh‘s two meals per week plan, and we are IN LOVE! I really hate to cook, but meal planning is even worse. Usually, we make some sort of main meat and then throw a veggie in the microwave. It’s pretty pathetic. My daughter and husband did most of the work for these first two meals, so I can’t say it was easy (I mean, it was for me—and they seemed happy with the amount of work they put in), but we loved having a full meal actually planned out for us.
    • If you’re interested in trying it out, feel free to use my referral link to get $70 off.
    • We were able to use the 4 serving plan for all 6 of us (5 for the first meal, since my mom wasn’t here). We felt like we had plenty of food for all of us. So, if you decide to try it out, feel free to try a plan for less people than you need at first.
  • TV We Watched:
    • A TON of TV. Basically, when the whole family is off school/work, and we’re a bit burnt out on projects, we watch TV all day. LOL!
    • The Flight Attendant. I forgot to mention this one last week, when we actually started it. We finished the season this week, Loved this exciting show!
    • The Punisher. We haven’t really watched any of the Marvel series, but my husband randomly tried this one out, and we ended up bingeing the whole first season.
    • Alone. This reality show is right up our alley. All of us love to watch survivor type stuff—we would die within a day, so we live vicariously through people who can actual survive in these circumstances.
    • The Circle. Okay, this one is total guilty pleasure TV. I have no idea why this show was fascinating to me, but I devoured it. I’m glad there was only one season so that I could be saved from myself and couldn’t keep watching.
    • SupernaturalWe’ve watched a bit more of season 7, but we mostly watched other things that my husband likes too.
    • We Can Be Heroes. My son wanted to watch this one, and the older two were nostalgic for Shark Boy and Lava Girl, so we decided to watch this on New Year’s Eve. It was entertaining if you ignored a lot of plot holes (actually, it was also entertaining for us to rant to each other about the plot holes. LOL!).
  • Books I Read
    • Now that the Cybils finalists are chosen, my reading has gone back to a normal pace, but I proved to myself that I can read A LOT of books. No excuses anymore!
    • I started listening to Furia by Yamile Saied Méndez.
    • I finished reading The Girl and the Ghost by Hanna Alkaf and then started reading The Language of Ghosts by Heather Fawcett. But then I decided I wanted to switch gears to something YA instead of MG for a change, so I jumped into reading Send Me Their Souls by Sara Wolf. (I definitely plan to go back to the first book at some point, though.)
  • The Dogs. Of course, I have to include pics of the pups (or, at least two of the three—Snickers will rarely sit and look pretty for the camera for me, but Bella and Digit are all too happy to pose.) We’ve decided that Digit has some major guyliner going on. Pretty darn cute!

  1. I hate meal planning as well but your idea sounds fantastic. I’ve also been meaning to check out all these baked recipe in aluminum foil idea. I got in the habit of cooking fish and vegetables every week and that has done wonders for my health and outlook on food. As a kid, my mother never let me touch the stove and I’m in hopes I do the exact opposite with my son.

  2. I had no idea there was an escape room game. How fun! I only got to do one escape room, but it was fabulous. My daughter does a bunch of those subscription meal planning things. She loves it. She learns the recipes too and has made a few for me. They were yummy.

  3. Oh gosh, I really need to work on eating healthier this year for sure. I was doing pretty well until Covid and then it got all messed up. I don’t like meal planning or cooking either. LOL That’s great Hello Fresh is working for you for a couple meals a week. I actually got two weeks of Jenny Craig that I’m going to start tonight. I’m hoping I’ll like the food, because it would make things a lot easier. It’s just the breakfast and lunch, but I can always move things around if I do something else for one of those – no reason you can’t have breakfast or lunch for dinner!! I’m sure I’ll do a blog post on it at some point – what I like, how it’s going, etc.

I just recently finished Send Me Their Souls. I loved the whole series, but I was left questioning a bit with the final book…at any rate, I liked it overall! I’ll be curious to see what you think!!

  4. Yeah, my mom isn’t one for meal planning either! At one point we wrote up a “menu” of all the dishes we like to eat, but even that gets tiring of the same things. Plus, the cooking of it! Crock pot meals are nice though! My mom likes those since she dumps everything in it and lets it all simmer! Lol.

Glad you had a nice NYE! I love playing games too, though COVID put that family tradition to bed since we didn’t get to do our gatherings this year. Not sure I’d excel at the algebra game though! Lol.

Yay for not adding any books to your TBR pile! I really only added the one! 😉

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  5. You’ve been so productive this past year, getting things done around the house. I bet it is a relief to have the last major paint job finished now. I am glad you are enjoying Hello Fresh. I have always wondered about those meal services.

I still need to read the second book of Wolf’s series. I was so made the first book ended with a big cliff hanger. One of these days.

    Such adorable dogs!

I hope you have a great week, Nicole.

  6. Oh wow that looks nice! Yay for being done with painting! And oh my gosh Shark Boy and Lava Girl- my daughters used to LOVE those shows!

  7. Oh my gosh, I love that your children were doing math! ? That is so funny! And it kinda sounds like me, tbh ?

The Punisher is so good! That and Daredevil are my two favorite Marvel/Netflix TV shows! And I’m glad to hear you’re continuing on with Supernatural, my favorite TV show of all time ? Lol

I love your painting job – I remember being awfully proud when I painted and worked on my bathroom, I popped up every now and then just to look at it and look smug. I don’t like cooking, which is why I have to plan our meals for the week (we’re 2 adults, 2/3 teenagers with my daughter’s boyfriend) : it saves money, it saves time, I can batch cook (while listening and dancing to music or reading). If I lived alone, I certainly would spend a lot less time preparing all that ! Your dogs are so cute, I feel like reaching through the screen and stroke them, but my cats would be jealous. Have a great week 🙂

  9. I love Hello Fresh and always have leftovers for additional dinners or lunch (I also enjoy Home Chef if you want to try another one at about the same price point). I binged a ton of TV over my break – I think work has been so stressful that I needed to not have to think. I’m a fan of Virgin River, and was so-so on Tiny Pretty Things. Keep sharing home reno and dog pics!
