The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

This past week on FYFA (and in my life):

  • School’s out! The kids are done with school, so things are a lot less busy around here.
  • Gardening (and a tick INVASION)! Still been working on gardening, but the ticks are out in full force right now. I can’t remember the last time I had a tick, but the other day, I found one attached to my neck! Then, later in the day, after gardening, I found another one attached to my leg. Meanwhile, my daughter Danielle went to a local forest preserve and called me in a panic because she had TONS of ticks on her. She didn’t even want to get into the car. I came to rescue her with my trusty tweezers and a change of clothes and found that she had five or six attached to her and then another probably 20 that I took off her clothes (and this was after she’d done her best to flick them off of her). Even when we got home, we still found more of them hiding in her shoes (luckily we found that before we brought them in). And then, later in the week, we found two other ticks in the house (one on me, but not attached, and another just randomly hanging out in the bathroom). UGH!!
  • Writing Update. I succeeded in sending my manuscript off to my critique partners! I’m both excited and terrified.
  • What I Read:
    • I’ve been enjoying reading a MG manuscript from my critique partner Ari!
    • I also finished reading Sunkissed and then moved on to read These Violent Delights, and two more of the Startup Squad books. I posted reviews for them all as well. When I saw that I only reviewed three books in May, I realized I needed to step it up!
    • I’ve been continuing to listen to We Could Be Heroes by Mike Chen.
  • TV We Watched:
    • America’s Next Top Model. Again, I watched way too much of this. This is a great show to have on in the background when other things are going on.
    • Supernatural. We finally got back to watching season 11, and we’re definitely getting back into the show now. This has been a great season!

Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

  1. Ticks! Nooo! We have them around here, but it sounds like you’re having a plague of them or something. We’re having a mosquito plague because of all the rain. I worked the night shift last night and got eaten alive.

  2. Ticks are so terrifying. Does tick spray work? I just try to stay out of the woods. Congratulations on sending your “baby” off to your critique partner.

Ticks! Yuck! My dad got seriously ill last summer from ticks–he contracted Rocky Mountain Fever, which has many of the same symptoms of COVID, so of course that’s what the hospital thought he had at first. He’s completely recovered now, thanks to some quick and smart doctor detective work. Good job on your writing goals!

  4. Ugh. I’m so paranoid about ticks. Luckily haven’t seen any in my yards yet. Knock on wood. Yay for getting your manuscript sent off! I’m hoping I can maybe get into a library soon and get some outlining or writing done this summer. I need to go check out your review for These Violent Delights as well, I loved that one! Have a great week!

  5. Congratulations on finishing your MS and sending it off to your critique partners! That’s terrific! Someday, I hope you see your book on the shelves. (I am just dipping a toe into the writing pool; I’m trying to complete a fanfic short story. Wish me luck — I don’t have a great track record for sticking with writing, but I’m trying to do better.)

Ticks terrify me! I’m concerned we’re in for a major tick explosion, too. Be on the watch for any odd symptoms — Lyme disease doesn’t always cause a rash, for instance. You might mark the tick bites on the calendar, just in case.

  6. School’s out (I had the Alice Cooper song in my head the other day) lol!! And I hear you on the ticks. Ugh we had one in the house too the other day and immediately went on a tick finding mission ha. Yay summer! 🙂

  7. I would freak out if I had a tick on me! That sounds terrifying! Thankfully we don’t get much out here. I’ve never had a tick and I may have seen one in my life. We get mosquitos and I hate them. I use DEET if I think I’m going to be around them, even though I know it’s not good. Is there some kind of repellant you can use for ticks? Maybe DEET works for them too.

  8. Thank you for sharing the pre-order giveaway for BFF or NRF (Not Really Friends)? A Girls Guide to Happy Friendships! We’ll be giving away four $25 gift cards to Off the Beaten Path Bookstore which can be used for online purchases. I appreciate your help spreading the word!

  9. Eeeeewww! Ticks are one reason I’m happy to stay in the suburbs or consider moving even more urban. They gross me out and terrify me all at the same time. I wouldn’t even know how to deal with them. Ick ick.

Great job on the MSS! Sending it out to a crit partner is a different kind of terrifying. 😉
