July 2021 Monthly Wrap-Up & Best of the Bunch

Posted July 30, 2021 by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction in Best of the Bunch, Monthly Recap / 11 Comments

My Goings-On in July:

Here are the things that stand out to me this month:

  • Not much blogging. Or reading. July was an incredibly slumpy blogging and reading month for me. Actually, let’s face it, I’ve been in a bit of a slump for almost two years now. It’s frustrating, but fretting about it doesn’t seem to help, so I guess I just have to do what I can and stop worrying about what I’m not getting done.
  • Purdue college visit. We visited Purdue and really loved it. This school’s landscape architecture program is highly rated, and it would be a great option for Danielle.
  • Volunteering at Bernie’s Book Bank. They started allowing volunteer sessions at Bernie’s again, Yay!

My 2021 Reading Progress:

Somehow I only read 8 books in July (and 3 of them are verse novels I read in just the last few days—this doesn’t include a picture book I read for review, though). This put me at 66 books so far this year and 9 books ahead of being on track for my Goodreads goal of 100.

I also read my AMM mentee’s manuscript twice (once straight through for flow and once for notes), which brings my total manuscripts read to 9 for the year.

Since I only reviewed one YA book in June, I’m only choosing a MG favorite,  The Verdigris Pawn. I loved this unique fantasy!

  1. Not bad, 8 books, with all your other obligations. AND you’re still ahead in your reading challenge. Good job! Glad to hear things are opening up for in-person volunteering. I did virtual for my job. It was interesting.

  2. I can relate to the slumpy feeling. I’ve been blogging since 2014, and I feel like I’ve run out of ideas. I get déjà vu every time I post because I feel like I’ve blogged about every bookish topic! I hope you have a great August!

  3. Slumps are frustrating. Your daughter’s major sounds fascinating. Glad you had a good college visit. I know when my kids were that age, I found it hard to concentrate on anything. There is a lot to think about. Hope you have a good August!

  4. Slumps can be annoying, but I agree – focus on what you are doing and don’t worry about the rest! Reading and blogging will always be here when you’re ready. 🙂
