Sunday Post header

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

This past week on FYFA (and in my life):

You may have noticed that I missed my Sunday Post last week. And didn’t post at all last week either. Yikes! It’s been crazy busy around here!

  • I’m training for a marathon! Yes, you read that right. Am I a runner? No. Honestly, I’m sure I’ll end up walk/running a marathon. I’ve started training (every single day!!) by running 4 minutes and then walking 1 (for 55 minutes at the longest so far), and it’s already … terrible. But it’s for a very good cause. If you feel so inclined, I’d love donations. Money raised will go toward bringing clean water to developing countries.

  • Jade moved out (again). We moved Jade into her new apartment on Thursday and Sunday of last week. She got a coding internship over the summer in Chicago, so it made sense for her to get an apartment near school and just commute from there. She’s just got one more year until she graduates!
  • Prom for Noah. Noah went to prom last weekend. I was going to include a picture, but I realised that I didn’t take any of just him! And I don’t want to put up a picture of the other kids without their permission.
  • Final concerts for Danielle. Danielle had FIVE performances this past week. She had a recital for her voice lessons, a regular choir concert, an a capella concert, and performances at the Senior Awards Night (during which she was awarded two scholarships) and graduation. Speaking of which…
  • Danielle graduated! Thursday was graduation. She’s officially done with high school.
  • What I Read
    • I only read one book over the past two weeks: The War on All Fronts by Kim Oclon. (Check out my review, giveaway, and top ten addictions lists!)
    • I continued listening to Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison.
  • What I Watched:
    • I finished watching American Idol, but I gave up on the latest season of The Voice. I was reminded why I stopped watching these shows—I just don’t have enough hours in my day to watch all of those episodes! I already knew who won anyway, and I’d seen them all sing, so I just decided to stop watching.
    • We finished watching season 5 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and season 2 of Angel! Season 5 of Buffy was just as amazing as I remembered it to be. Man, do I love this show!

  • Headed to Disney for the Special Olympics USA Games! I don’t know if I’ll get a Sunday Post up next week (or the following?) or not. We’re headed to Orlando for the USA Games where Noah’s team will be playing soccer!! Time will be very limited.

Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

Book Haul:

Purchased:

I bought my own copy of my friend Kim Oclon’s book THE WAR ON ALL FRONTS. You can enter you win a copy in my post!

For Review:

I received THE NAME SHE GAVE ME by Betty Culley for review. I was super excited to get this one because I just kind of threw a request out there to the publicist who sent me a tour request for Culley’s newest MG, The Natural Genius of Ants (and I had no idea if I would actually get it.) Then I also received SHINJI TAKAHASHI AND THE MARK OF THE COATL by Julie Kagawa. I already reviewed this one, but I hadn’t yet gotten a copy for Instagram. Thanks, Disney for sending me the hardcover of this one!

Then Sourcebooks sent me two books to feature for Pride Month: THE PANTS PROJECT by Cat Clarke, and LOVE IS LOVE by Michael Genhart, PhD, illustrated by Ken Min.

And, finally, I received THE LAST FALLEN MOON by Graci Kim from Disney for an upcoming tour (look for my review this week!) and SPINELESS by Samantha San Miguel from Union Square Kids. Thank you!!

Great Discussions/Goings On Around the Blogosphere:

  • I didn’t make note of any this week. Sorry!

  1. Your kids had so many big things going on! I hope Jade has an incredible experience with her internship, CONGRATULATIONS to Danielle for all her accomplishments (concerts, graduation), and good luck to Noah in the games. I hope the weather in Orlando isn’t too brutal while you are there. Safe travels and have an incredible time! (good luck with the training too. I admire you doing it.)

  2. Ooh good luck with the marathon! I haven’t run in so long… and congrats to your kids for those accomplishments! We just had graduation too- it’s so bittersweet, right? But on to new things!

Good luck with the Spec Olympics! 🙂

  3. Oh wow! Congrats to Danielle! And congrats to Jade and Noah too! Your kids are doing awesome from the sound of things! Good luck with your marathon training too! I know “back in the day,” my older sister would do half marathons like all the time! Lol. I’m not a runner by any means. All my childhood medical issues made sure of that, but I do love a good walk! I do some “running” like things on my elliptical though, which is probably the closest I’ll ever get to running!

Nice new reads! Those are all totally new to me ones but I hope you enjoy each and every one of them!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  4. Good luck with the marathon training! I ran a half-marathon last April. I planned on training for a marathon, but I’m so busy during the summer that it’s hard to find hours to spend running. Congratulations to all the kids! It sounds like they had a big week.
