The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

What’s been happening since my last Sunday Post:

I hope everyone had a happy holiday season! My daughter and I sang and my husband played drums on Christmas Eve eve and Christmas Eve. Then we spent a low-key Christmas at home (we celebrate with extended family today). Unfortunately, I managed to get sick – it wasn’t anything terrible, but I was battling a sore throat while singing and a cold the rest of the week. I also had to work on Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas, both days were pretty crazy and I wasn’t feeling great, but I got through the retail craziness alright.

ADHD diagnosis (again). So, I’m going to be real with you all a bit here. As much as this year has been a triumph because of my book publishing, it’s also been hard for me on the writing front. I’ve been struggling to finish things and to sit down and focus on specific tasks. I’ve always known this was an issue–I was actually diagnosed with ADHD many years ago and went on medication, but for some reason misguided guilt and a lack of follow-through made me quit taking it. Since then, I have considered trying to find a doctor to get back on medication many times over the years, but the thought was really overwhelming, so I just didn’t do it. Recently, I had some stark reminders of how much my ADHD makes me struggle not just in my writing but in my everyday life and I finally made an appointment (thanks to some helpful prompting from my good friend Megan Freeman). The medication is 100% helping me. If you’re struggling with ADHD symptoms, I would encourage you to talk to someone and get help!

Book News:

  • January 21st is less than a month away!!!! (That’s the whole update. It feels insane, though!)
  • Audiobook update – I got a review copy of the completed audiobook, and I am in love!!! These narrators are fantastic. I’ve only listened to snippets so far (due to being sick and it being Christmas), but everything I’ve heard is wonderful!!

Past book news you may have missed:

What I Read:

  • I read The Girl in the Walls by Meg Eden Kuyatt, a spooky MG verse novel that puts a spotlight on the ways people on the spectrum have historically been mistreated.
  • I listened to Wolfsong by TJ Klune. I’ve loved Klune’s newer books, so I had to buy the gorgeous sprayed edge editions of these–but I hadn’t gotten around to reading them! I know, it’s ridiculous to listen to a book I already own, but I honestly do this pretty often. It’s a good feeling to “cross” a book over the virtual list in my head!
  • My friend Deanna brought Camp Prodigy by Caroline Palmer to work so we could read it together. This one is a super cute graphic novel about letting go of perfectionism and self-pressure.
  • I read As You Wish by Nashae Jones. You guys, I just love Nashae’s MG romance books! They read just like YA romances, except they don’t go beyond a quick peck. Kids who are yearning all the angst and big feelings of YA romance (or even adult romance), but aren’t ready for the “content” that goes with those will absolutely adore this contemporary fantasy that explores alternate timelines through wish-fulfillment!
  • I also read The House at the End of the Sea by Victoria M. Adams, a fairy-filled mystery adventure story!
  • Finally, I read Safe Harbor by Padma Venkatraman. This love MG verse novel comes out the same day as mine!

Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

  1. Sam@WLABB

I hope you are feeling better with January quickly approaching!!! We don’t want you under the weather when you have so much to celebrate. I am glad you are having success with your medication. Medication made a world of difference for my family member with ADHD. It’s nice to know there are MG romance books out there. I saw a reel of a middle school teacher saying her students were reading Twisted Love and Fourth Wing. I was shocked.

  2. I remember working Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas when I was at B&N. It was always crazy! I still need to pre-order your book, although I finished reading my e-galley and loved it! I need to go ahead and get my review posted as many places as possible now! I hope you’re feeling better now and can enjoy the new year and time with your family!

  3. I’m sorry you were not feeling well last week. A sore throat while singing has to hurt. I’m glad the ADHD medication is helping.

It’s exciting that the book and audio narration are coming so soon!

    Happy New Year!

  4. I’m glad you are back on your medication. My daughter has ADHD and wasn’t diagnosed until the end of her master’s program. She coped well in high school but struggled in college. She says the medicine is a total game changer. Don’t feel guilty about taking the meds. I just went on a mild anti-depression med that has really helped me cope much better with the holidays and life in general which has been hard since I lost my husband 10 years ago. I think I went through the same guilty feelings as you and didn’t try it. I feel so much better.
And I can’t wait for your book release!

  5. Omg, how did I miss your post? I used to always get these by emails and I thought when I hadn’t seen any in awhile it had to take a backseat to your book–which again super congrats on that! So weird. I wonder if I need to sign up again? I notice that every now and then the sites I subscribe to stop sending me email updates when I ask for them. So weird!

Glad to hear you had a nice holiday but sorry to hear you were also sick. That’s never fun. My mom had a nasty bug and she’s still trying to get over it. She caught it from my niece who is slowly getting over it too. Think it’s been nearly 2 weeks now! I’ve been trying to keep my distance to avoid catching it myself.

Thanks for visiting my blog! Going to try to see if I need to submit my email again for updates. So weird that it did that!

    • Okay that’s weird. It’s not letting me sign up. I enter my info, click that I’m not a robot and hit submit and nothing happens! What is going on with technology lately?!

Weird question, but can you sign me up on your end? I don’t understand why it won’t let me hit submit. I see a little circle spinning but then it times out and I have to recheck the box and start all over and it still doesn’t let me hit submit.

      • Ugh! I’ve had a bunch of problems with the email on this blog lately, and I figured out that emails haven’t been going out since JANUARY! It’s definitely not you. I finally realized it was happening and tried to fix it a few weeks ago to no avail. I’m going to take advantage of the fact that my husband’s home for the holiday today and see if he can get it working. Sometimes I hate technology!! (And the year leading up to my book launch is a … very unfortunate time for my emails to just stop sending. Sigh.)

        • Glad it’s not just me! That’s so weird. January, wow! I guess it has been going on all year. But like I said I thought blogging was taking a backseat for you this year so I didn’t think much of it u til I saw your comment/link on my post.
