The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.
What’s been happening since my last Sunday Post:
Last days of work. I worked my last day at Barnes & Noble last Saturday, which was very bittersweet. I will miss many things about that job. It was a good week to be not working, though, since…
Danielle came home from Purdue. We celebrated her 21st birthday, did some shopping, volunteered at Bernie’s Book Bank, planted flowers in the backyard, and more. It was definitely nice to have free time while she’s home, because she leaves for a summer study abroad in Colombia in a week, then she’ll be home for less than a month and will be leaving for a year-long internship in Cincinnati.
Bathroom remodel: Our bathroom remodel is finally done! Well, technically, there’s still an issue with the grout, but it looks done, and hopefully the grout thing will be fixed without a huge issue, so I’m calling it done. Here are some pics of the finished bathroom and the walk-in closet (which we installed ourselves—highly recommend John Louis Home closets- it’s a bit of work to install, but so incredibly nice!). Our next task is to repaint the master bedroom.
The Song of Orphan’s Garden Book News:
- Poetry workshop: I did poetry workshops at a grade school, one session for each grade. Lots of work, but also really fun.
- Donation to Bernie’s Book Bank: I already mentioned that we went back to volunteer. This was the first time I donated my own book to Bernie’s, which made it extra special. (I definitely plan to donate more of them later, but this was the first!)
What I Read:
- First, I listened to May the Best Player Win by Kyla Zhao, a great book about the pressures some kids put on themselves to succeed.
- Next came Bye Forever, I Guess by Jodi Meadows. This book is a super cute romance with a side of fandom and friendship issues. I listened to it in one day!
- I then listened to The Flicker by H.E. Edgmon. This dystopian is incredible!
- Next up was A Strange Thing Happened in Cherry Hall by Jasmine Warga, a mystery with a touch of a ghost story.
- Splinter & Ash by Marieke Nijkamp is a gender-bending medieval fantasy.
- Kwame Crashes the Underworld by Craig Kofi Farmer combines Ghanian folklore with a powerful message about grief.
- Next I listened to A Split Second by Janae Marks, a contemporary fantasy about a girl who gets sent two months in the future and has to figure out how to fix the problems she apparently caused in her life in the meantime.
- I read Where There Be Monsters by Alby C. Williams, a cool blend of science fiction and fantasy. You can read my review of and a list of the author’s Top Ten Addictions here!
- Finally, I listened to Pax and Pax, the Journey Home by Sara Pennypacker. I’ve been meaning to read Pax for a long time because I love foxes so much! I was really surprised to learn that they’re not a contemporary novel – it’s set in an imagined land with a war going on over water. I didn’t realize that, but I ended up enjoying it immensely!
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

- May 2025 Discussion Challenge Link-Up & Giveaway!

Your bathroom is gorgeous! And I envy that closet. I hope you enjoy your daughter while you can. Sounds like you two are making good use of your time together.
Oh wow! Your bathroom is just gorgeous! And the closet too! A walk in closet is always nice! I hope you have a great time with your daughter before she goes off her trip/internship!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
Your bathroom looks awesome! Mine is in progress, but we found a roof leak. I need to get a new roof before it can be finished. Enjoy your time with your daughter.
I love your new bathroom! That tub is to die for! Sounds like it was a nice time to have your daughter home. I am often a bit sad and miss my B&N job, it honestly was the best part time job I ever had. But it’s also nice these days to not have that. I wonder sometimes how I ever got anything done working two jobs! Hope you’ve had a good week!
