Bite-Sized Reviews of Bring Me Their Hearts, The Mermaid, and A Thousand Beginnings and Endings

Bite-Sized Reviews of Bring Me Their Hearts, The Mermaid, and A Thousand Beginnings and Endings

Reviews 22 ★★★★½

I’ve got three reviews for you today, one YA fantasy, one historical fantasy (or paranormal, I guess?), and one collection of short stories. I hope these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, but I knew I liked it right from the start. Zera is full of snark—just the way I like my YA MCs. I loved the fact that she was a sort of reluctant hero. She’s badass, but we also saw her truly genuine goodness underneath the mask that she holds up to hide her pain. Some of the elements of the story were predictable, I have to admit (hmmm… Zera’s supposed to make the prince fall for her and then steal his heart, I wonder how that’s going to turn out for her?), but I still enjoyed pretty much every minute of the journey. And… Read more »

Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi: This Book Is the Definition of Delightful!

Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi: This Book Is the Definition of Delightful!

Reviews 22 ★★★★★

You guys, I think I could sit here and gush all day about this book! Just everything about it—love the characters, the setting, the pacing. And then there’s the writing … the book took me a little longer to read than usual because I sat down and underlined every line that I loved. And there were a lot of them. I regret nothing. What Fed My Addiction: Fantastic middle grade voice. The main reason I started underlining my favorite quotes was because I’m using this as a study of how to nail middle grade voice—which is tough, trust me. If I can get my book even halfway to this level of amazingness, I will die and go to writerly heaven. Chokshi manages to make Aru funny and sarcastic and flawed and still oh-so-lovable. I think that just about every middle grader on the planet will be able to relate to Aru in one way… Read more »

Bite-Sized Reviews of One Dark Throne, Wonder Woman: Warbringer, Before She Ignites & A Crown of Wishes

I’ve got four bite-sized reviews today—three of these are recent releases and one is a book I’ve been avoiding for a while. Oh, and a “bonus” review of a novella. 🙂  I hope these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! If you’ve already read this book, check out my Spoiler-Filled Discussion of One Dark Throne and let me know your thoughts and predictions about what’s going to happen next! If you’ve been around my blog at all in the past year, you know I’ve been anxiously awaiting this book. After all, I adored the first book—and then my Spoiler-Filled Discussion of Three Dark Crowns became my most viewed post of ever, which managed to keep the series at the forefront of my mind (always important when you’re waiting for the next book). I even reread TDC in preparation for One Dark Throne, and I never reread. (Turns… Read more »

Bite-Sized Reviews: Crash Land on Kurai, The Star-Touched Queen and Death’s Queen

Bite-Sized Reviews: Crash Land on Kurai, The Star-Touched Queen and Death’s Queen

Coyer, Reviews 24

I’ve got three bite-sized reviews today—one for a book I loved and two for disappointing reads. I hope these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! This book is a spin-off of Pajonas’s Nojiku Series, but you don’t have to read that first series to appreciate it. In fact, I have to confess that I’m horrible with remembering details of books I read long ago and I was struggling to remember all the connections between this book and the original series—but it didn’t matter one little bit because I still loved this one (actually a bit more than I loved the original series, I think). Right away, I connected with the main character. Yumi is smart, tough and more than a little flawed (especially when it comes to being somewhat hotheaded and impulsive). She’s used to digging for the truth, not necessarily getting down and dirty in… Read more »
