Sunday Post: Book Pre-Order Incentives & Giveaways Galore – 12/30/18

Sunday Post 36

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): We’re almost there—almost to 2019! This week was all about holidays with the family for me. We all served at church on Christmas Eve (my husband played drums, my older daughter did lights, my younger daughter did graphics, and my mom and my youngest and I served in the children’s ministry—this is a pretty typical weekend for us, though sometimes my one daughter sings instead of doing graphics). Then my dad came over for Christmas day. Unfortunately my husband was sick with a fever and a sore throat (Possibly strep? He had leftover antibiotics and self-medicated. I know, not… Read more »

2019 Reading Challenge Sign-Ups

2019 Reading Challenge Sign-Ups

Challenges 32

Because my focus for 2018 was on my writing, I completely gave up on all my challenges except for the Discussion Challenge about midway through the year. But I decided to try a few again this year. Hopefully I’ll do a better job keeping up with my reading challenges in 2019! My 2019 Reading/Blogging Challenges: Goal: 31-40 Discussions (Terrifically Talkative)  Of course I’m participating in this challenge since I’m hosting it! The goal of this challenge is to post book-related discussions (or getting to know you type discussions work too.) This challenge is one of my favorite aspects of blogging, and I’m excited to be continuing it (even if I did fail to hit my goal in 2018). I’m leaving my goal as Terrifically Talkative for 2019 because I really do want to post more discussions again. We shall see! The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): Merry Christmas! And for those of you who don’t celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Most of this week was spent last-minute Christmas shopping and other Christmas preparation. Did you know that in order for people to receive gifts from you, you have to first purchase them? And then wrap them? Apparently, I thought all that was going to happen by itself this year, because I still had a whole lot of stuff to do this week with not a lot of time to do it. I believe I got it all done, and Christmas… Read more »

My (Everlasting) Quest to Catch Up on Review Books. Let’s Discuss.

My (Everlasting) Quest to Catch Up on Review Books. Let’s Discuss.

Let's Discuss 44

I know I’m not alone when I say I’m behind on books I have for review. Sometimes it’s because my eyes were bigger than my … eyes? (Yeah, that metaphor doesn’t work for books the way it works for food.) Or sometimes it’s because a book that I really wanted to read somehow lost its luster along the way and I wasn’t excited about it anymore. For whatever reason, not every book I have for review has gotten read. But recently I’ve been making a concerted effort to read some of those older review titles that have been waiting for me. Some strategies I’ve used lately to catch up on those review books: Sign up for blog tours. Nowadays, when I sign up for a blog tour, it’s almost always for a book I already have for review. So, why bother signing up for a tour, you ask? Because then… Read more »

Sunday Post: Book Pre-Order Incentives & Giveaways Galore – 12/16/18

Sunday Post 28

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): Well, I finished the first draft of my YA novel this week. And then I set it aside and immediately started plotting my next book. I definitely need a little space from that last book—it’s going to take a lot of editing to get it into reasonable shape. I’m not saying I won’t go back to it, but I need some time away first. So now I’m starting work on another MG novel. I’m excited about this one! Oh, and I had to give my son the Heimlich this week. I wrote about it on Twitter (it actually had… Read more »

Navigating the Stars by Maria V. Snyder: Review & Giveaway

Navigating the Stars by Maria V. Snyder: Review & Giveaway

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 18 ★★★★½

KINDLE VERSION Navigating the Stars is about Terra Cotta Warriors in space. Sound weird? It is a little, but it’s also really enjoyable. What Fed My Addiction: Sci-fi that’s in-depth without being confusing. There’s a decent amount of science in this fiction, but I never felt overwhelmed or bombarded with facts. There are some basic things about the world that you have to understand—for instance, the fact that space travel essentially causes time travel and the fact that they’re universe is run by something called Q-Net, which Lyra hacks into in a very specific way called worming—but I don’t feel like you have to understand the details of how it all works in order to enjoy and appreciate the way it works. I never felt lost. The mystery of the Warriors. Usually the mystery aspect of a book like this is my least favorite part, but in this case, I was intrigued and wanted… Read more »

Briggs Book Tag

Briggs Book Tag

Let's Discuss, Tags 18

I saw this over at It Starts at Midnight about a month ago (and a couple other places as well) and thought it would be a fun tag to try. The tag originated at Jaded Reader. In case you’re not familiar with it, here’s some info on Myers Briggs  (and the test, if you want to try it out yourself). I’ve taken this test a few times in the past, and I always come out very borderline between INFP and ENFP. This time was no exception, though I think when I was younger I skewed more toward Extrovert and nowadays I lean toward Introvert, and I actually think that’s pretty accurate. Anyway, I’m going with INFP. (Click the image to see it at its source: PersonalityCentral.com.)   And now… let’s move on to the tag! INTROVERT: (I) You can be outgoing, but need to recharge with some calming solitude, Where is your… Read more »

Sunday Post 26

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): This week was once again pretty uneventful, except that I made some forward progress with an agent I submitted a query to. Who knows where it will go, but it’s nice to have some positive feedback—no matter how much you tell yourself to prepare for the negative, it’s hard to keep that thick skin in place some days. (I need better glue!) Other than that, I spent a lot of time at gymnastics meets—my daughter had three school meets this week! She’s mostly doing this sport for fun, since she quit competitive gymnastics years ago and can’t possibly compete… Read more »
