Top Six Resolutions for 2015

Top Six Resolutions for 2015

Top Ten Tuesday 42

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is about our New Year’s Resolutions. I don’t really make resolutions because I know I don’t stick to them. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a disorganized blogger (and a disorganized person) and plans and lists don’t really work for me. Still, there are some things that I definitely want to do this year, so I’m going to go ahead and list them out. We shall see! These are a mix of blogging goals and some other things. I could only easily come up with six, so I decided to just list those, rather than struggling to come up with other things (and not really meaning them). Honestly, I feel like my blogging has been going pretty well – I’m interacting a lot with others, commenting a lot, getting good content out there, so there’s not that much I want to change. Still, there are always some things,… Read more »

Review – Unhinged by A.G. Howard

Review – Unhinged by A.G. Howard

Reviews 25 ★★★★

This second book in the Splintered Trilogy once again proved how incredibly imaginative Howard is. I just love her twisted take on Wonderland and the creatures in it! What I enjoyed: Wonderland creatures. As in Splintered, the best things about this book are all the nods to Wonderland. While Alyssa never actually makes it to Wonderland in this book (see my negatives below), Wonderland does come to her. Of course, you can tell from the cover that Morpheus makes an appearance. He needs Alyssa, and he’s not going to leave her alone until she agrees to help him. At first, Alyssa assumes that Morpheus is the only Wonderland creature haunting her, but she soon finds that there are LOTS more surprises in store for her. Crazy, demonic clowns, dangerous trees, nightmare creatures who leave slime on the walls – there are plenty of Wonderland characters to torment her! I don’t want to say… Read more »

Let’s Discuss – What Bookish Things Did Santa Bring? (Plus the Oh Christmas Tag)

Let's Discuss, Reviews 40

I was thrilled this year to get a beautiful bookcase for Christmas!! The bookcases in our house are all completely full – overflowing, really – and so I was super excited to get a new bookcase to put in our bedroom. My new bookcase is oh, so pretty and perfect in every way except one – it still doesn’t hold all of my books!! (The picture above doesn’t show all of my random books that were sitting around, only some of them!) I do have one small shelf that I’m going to add some bookish knick-knacks to … So, I was more than thrilled when I came home and my husband said, “So, do you want one more bookcase or two?” Best. Husband. Ever. We’re getting two more. One more this size and a smaller one in the same style. Woo hoo! So, what kind of bookish gifts did you get for… Read more »

Waiting on Wednesday (& Mini-Review of First Three Chapters of Ensnared by A.G. Howard)

Waiting on Wednesday (& Mini-Review of First Three Chapters of Ensnared by A.G. Howard)

Waiting on Wednesday 15

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights the upcoming releases that we’re most looking forward to. This week, I chose to spotlight Ensnared by A.G. Howard, which is being released soon! I just recently finished reading Unhinged, which ended with a bang, so I’m excited to read the final installment in this trilogy! I got a preview of the book from NetGalley (the first three chapters – I actually didn’t realize it was a preview when I requested it, but that was my mistake – it clearly stated it in the description), so I thought I’d talk a bit about my first impressions! Ensnared picks up one month after Unhinged ended. Alyssa finds herself in the same asylum that her mother spent so many years in. And she actually is just a touch … mad. Her mother and Jeb are both missing and, while she’s not exactly… Read more »

Review – Hush by Stacey R. Campbell

Review – Hush by Stacey R. Campbell

Reviews 10 ★★

For some reason, this book never clicked with me. It started out looking promising – I liked the concept and was intrigued by the prologue, but I started getting frustrated as soon as the book took a completely unrealistic turn and I just never really got back around to enjoying it. At least not fully. What I enjoyed: The lost princess. I enjoy stories with this concept – a princess is born, but hidden away, and eventually has to rule in a far-off country. It’s a fun concept, perfect for the younger YA crowd (and some of us who are young at heart!). Max & Blakely. Both of the main characters were likable enough. Max is sufficiently swoony (his British accent helps). And Blakely is a sporty, intelligent girl. Unfortunately, I never completely connected with them. With brings me to the negatives … The negatives: Unbelievable story. Unfortunately, I started scratching my head… Read more »

Review – Mortality by Kellie Sheridan

Review – Mortality by Kellie Sheridan

Reviews 18 ★★★★

Mortality follows two teenage girls through the zombie apocalypse. Savannah and Zarah have both found themselves orphaned after the virus takes over, but their circumstances and attitudes about what’s happening around them are quite different. Savannah teams up with a group of survivors and trains to kill the zombies, while Zarah bonds with a guy who ends up helping her through the worst of times. What I LOVED: Zombie action. There are plenty of zombies in this book, and they’re not the type that just shuffle around and groan. No, the second generation zombies are way smarter and way more dangerous than that. There was just enough zombie gore without being gruesome and there were some fun horror elements (though I wouldn’t say the book was scary). If you enjoy a good zombie novel, this should satisfy! The emotional story. While this book is definitely about a zombie invasion, the real story… Read more »

Let’s Discuss – Why Culling My TBR List is an Impossible Task!

Let’s Discuss – Why Culling My TBR List is an Impossible Task!

Let's Discuss 51

I tried. I really did. But in the end, I epically failed. I have determined that there is absolutely no way to get my TBR list down to a reasonable number of books. No way. I know you all think I’m being dramatic (and I am, of course), but this is a real problem that plagues me. I MUST get my TBR under control!! Right now (after my failed attempt at culling the list), I have over 1100 books on my Goodreads TBR. Even though I read A LOT (I just passed my 200 book goal for 2014 yesterday), it would still take me six years to read all of those books. And that’s assuming that, in the next six years, I find no new books that I want to read. Um, yeah, that obviously isn’t going to happen. Oh, and did I mention that 99% of those books have been added to my… Read more »
