Sunday Post 29

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): I’ve been horrified by the news lately. Just horrified, and it makes me want to cry. That’s all I can say about that. Here’s what we’ve been up to while safe indoors this week: We watched: My younger daughter and I watched the whole season of Never Have I Ever in two days. We absolutely loved it and my daughter really wants other series to watch that are similar (cute teen dramas that are well produced). If anyone has any suggestions, I’d be grateful! We also watched season 9 of Married at First Sight. This show is total guilty… Read more »

Our First Junk Art Creations!

Our First Junk Art Creations!

Junk Art, Let's Discuss 36

Instead of talking books, today I’m talking about a newfound hobby—junk art! A couple of years ago, I went to an art fair while on vacation in Michigan and came across this amazing artist who made art out of found metal items: old tools, car parts, silverware, etc. I was in love with so many of them, and I ended up buying two—one that’s hanging out right by my front door and another that I gave to my dad for Father’s Day. Choosing just two was almost impossible. Well, just recently my husband started talking about getting a welder. I jumped at the idea because it meant we can make junk art of our own!! And, just like that, a new hobby was born. We’ve been planning and gathering parts from neighbors while we waited for the welder to come in (though I’ll confess we cheated a little and made the flowers… Read more »

Sunday Post 28

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): I’ve been sort of pre-occupied this week (read below to see why) and only managed to put up one post. I did do some blog hopping at least! Here’s what we’ve been up to while safe indoors this week: Most of my week was occupied by the idea of … PUPPIES! Yep, we’re planning to get a puppy. I know—us and the rest of the quarantined universe. Which is why we don’t have one yet. But now that the idea has entered our minds, there’s no getting rid of it. My daughter is super excited about the idea of training… Read more »

Bite-Sized Reviews of Lucky Caller, Peasprout Chen: Battle of Champions, The Princess and the Fangirl, and Insignificant & Momentous Events in the Life of a Cactus

Bite-Sized Reviews of Lucky Caller, Peasprout Chen: Battle of Champions, The Princess and the Fangirl, and Insignificant & Momentous Events in the Life of a Cactus

Reviews 28

I’ve got five reviews for you today: two YA contemporaries, a MG fantasy and a MG contemporary duology. I hope these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! Everyone raves about Emma Mills, and I just needed to see what all the fuss is about. She seems to be the new big name in contemporary YA. So when I saw that Hoopla had a few of her audiobooks available, I decided to give one a listen! This book is a wonderful representation of the many facets of family. I loved that it showed a complicated family relationship without getting overly dramatic or angsty. Nina’s mom’s remarriage is mostly okay with Nina and her sisters—but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have any reservations. Their relationship with their dad is even more confusing: they don’t see him much since he moved away, and they don’t seem to be… Read more »

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life):   Here’s what we’ve been up to while safe indoors this week: Online school. Monday’s the last day!! We watched: The whole family watched the original Jumanji. We liked the new ones better, but it was fun to see where it all started. I finished two books this week I read The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar. I posted my review and a giveaway this week, so check it out! I listened to the rest of Momentous Events in the Life of a Cactus. I liked this one even more than the first book! We’ve been collecting stuff for… Read more »

The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar: Review & Giveaway

The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar: Review & Giveaway

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 33 ★★★★

Amazon, B&N, Kobo, Google A portrait of coming out in a Muslim family, The Henna Wars explores the ways that our culture defines who we are—and the ways it can’t define us. Nishat knows that her family isn’t going to be happy when she comes out to them—after all, in her home country of Bangladesh, being a lesbian is punishable by death. But since her parents broke all the rules and married for love and then moved to Ireland for a better life, Nishat has hope that they’ll accept her. Unfortunately, acceptance doesn’t come easily—she’s basically told that she can’t be gay because she’s Muslim and that she’ll bring shame to the family. Meanwhile, Nishat is nursing a crush on Flávia, while also competing against her in a business competition where they both decide to apply henna as their business. Of course, Nishat is more than a little upset that she has… Read more »

Sunday Post 60

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms out there! I actually totally thought Mother’s Day was next week until yesterday when my husband set me straight. LOL! My daughter’s 16th birthday is on the 14th, and I was sure that Mother’s Day always fell the Sunday after her birthday. Apparently I was wrong. I’m hoping we can make my daughter’s 16th birthday as special as we can. Actually… it just occurred to me that you could help with that. If you think of it, jump over to her blog for school this week and wish her a happy birthday! Her blog… Read more »

Fun with Spam #13

Fun with Spam #13

Fun with Spam 31

It’s time for a new installment of Fun with SPAM, where we peek into the abyss of the Spam folder to find a few gems and imagine … what if I were really going to reply to these random crazy comments?  Take a look at what I might say:  Who can write more certainly than you! I promise you, no one, I’ve seen something similar to this only on (website deleted). I enjoyed this guide and suppose you have stuff that was such? Not only for me, and if yes, therefore please note it as it’s rather unusual for me personally at the moment that is present personally, that is my opinion. I be mindful of the news headlines and the most recent data and also could come across an in-depth guide of yours. Why, no one can write more certainly than me, of course! I am the most certainest blog… Read more »
