Best of the Bunch – June 2014

Best of the Bunch, Monthly Recap 0

Best of the Bunch is a book blog hop hosted over at Always Lost in Stories on the last day of each month, where we can look back over the books we have read over this past month and give a Best of the Bunch award to our favorite book of that month. June 2014I’ve felt l’ve been in a little bit of a reading slump this month (no horrible books, just books that were good, but not great).  But when I look back over my reviews, I realize that it was better than I remembered.  It’s nice to put it in perspective! This month I reviewed the following: The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker | Review | Rating: 5/5 Of Stardust by February Grace | Review | Rating 4/5 I Am the Weapon by Allen Zadoff | Review | Rating 4.5/5 Time Return by Micah Caida | Review | Rating 4/5 Time Lock by Micah Caida | Review | Rating 4.5/5 Knife of Dreams by Robert Jordan | Review | Rating 4/5 Rematch by… Read more »

Top Ten Cover Trends I Love (or Hate)

Top Ten Cover Trends I Love (or Hate)

Top Ten Tuesday 0

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Cover Trends I Love (or Hate) This one was hard for me because, while I absolutely LOVE some covers (and hate others), it’s hard for me to always really quantify why.  Still, when I took a look, I was definitely able to come up with some patterns.  Not sure if these are really trends or not, but this is what I’m going with.  I couldn’t quite come up with ten either.I LOVE: Rich Colors I absolutely LOVE colorful covers – especially when the colors are rich and bold. The covers for the Splintered series are AMAZING to me – I absolutely adore them.  And it’s all about the color!! Color is probably one of the most influential factors in whether or not I truly love a cover.   In fact, you’ll find that lots of my favorite covers that fall into other categories below also have vibrant… Read more »

10 Mistakes I Made at BEA (and One BIG Mistake that They Made!)

10 Mistakes I Made at BEA (and One BIG Mistake that They Made!)

BEA, Book Events 0

So, I learned a lot being a first-timer to BEA this year!  Now that I’ve been through the experience, there are a few things I’d do differently.  I thought I’d share for those of you who might make it there in future years!10 Mistakes I Made at BEA  Me and my roommate, Jenni 1. Left my Roomie Hanging – If you read my recap of Day 1 of BEA, you know that my poor roommate had to hang out in the hotel lobby for hours waiting for me to get there so she could check-in.  Oops!!  And while this wasn’t exactly my fault (I thought I had all the bases covered by adding her name to the reservation), I should have made sure that we communicated a little better before we checked in – then I would have known that she didn’t have a CC with her and was planning… Read more »
