The Door to the Lost by Jaleigh Johnson: A Dual Review with Marilla

The Door to the Lost by Jaleigh Johnson: A Dual Review with Marilla

Dual Reviews, Reviews 2 ★★★★

(No actual dueling—or even arm-twisting—was involved. This is a dual review, not a duel review. Sorry if you’re disappointed.) Marilla was a recent winner of my Monthly Wrap-Up Round-Up “Make Me Read It” giveaway, and she chose to make me read The Door to the Lost by Jaleigh Johnson. I got this book as a gift at an event I went to featuring Johnson’s agent, Sara Megibow (I learned LOTS about the business side of publishing from her). I’m so glad Marilla made me read this book! Read on to see what we thought of the book… An engrossing middle grade fantasy that explores themes of friendship and belonging. What Fed Our Addiction: MARILLA SAYS: I loved the strong friendship between Drift and Rook and later how they formed a relationship with Fox, and I love the found family aspect of both the three of them and then later on with… Read more »

Sunday Post: Book Pre-order Campaigns & Giveaways Galore – 12/29/19

Sunday Post 44

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): I decided to take the week off from blogging this week and just enjoy some family time (well, and editing time—I need to finish that editing project, so I couldn’t take the week off from that). We spent Christmas Eve serving at church (pretty much all day, from 9 AM to 6:30 PM or so). Sounds exhausting, but we really enjoy doing worship at our church, so the day went fast. Then, on Christmas day, we opened presents and my dad came over for a bit (my mom was already here). We don’t see him as often anymore, so… Read more »

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): This week we had rehearsals for worship team for Christmas Eve service and we did a teensy bit of decorating, with stockings, a couple of small items and a “tree” (we literally put up the top section of our Christmas tree and just decorated that—it actually looks pretty cute). We hadn’t done any decorating earlier because we weren’t sure when people were coming to paint (it’s not happening till after the holidays). I also worked more on my editing project. On the blog, I caught up with comments—I had over 200 un-replied to comments that have been building up… Read more »

Nicole’s Best Books of the Decade

Nicole’s Best Books of the Decade

Let's Discuss 52

I’ve been seeing lots of these lists around since we’re coming to the end of the 2010s, and I thought I’d jump in! Here’s the thing, this list would be practically impossible to make if I thought about it too hard. So I didn’t. I made a vow to go with my gut when making it. (And, surprisingly, I managed that for the most part without second-guessing myself too much). So, this isn’t a thorough list of books I loved. Heck, if I made another list right now, it might be different. But this is definitely a list of books that impacted me over the last decade. So, how did I come up with the list? I scanned my Goodreads list (in year-published order) and … picked. I sort of randomly decided that I would choose two from each year. And then, like I said, I went with my gut… Read more »

Sunday Post 22

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): Not much to say this week, which is probably a good thing (no disasters, for once).  🙂 But one bit of good news is that my oldest officially got into the college she wants to attend (with the merit scholarship we were expecting plus a little extra)! We weren’t surprised with her acceptance, but it’s still nice to have it all official and on paper. Now we start figuring out all the details, like meal plans and housing. She’ll be transferring in as a junior because she has so many credits from our local community college, so she’s way ahead of the… Read more »

Fun With Spam #10

Fun With Spam #10

Spam 30

It’s time for a new installment of Fun with SPAM, where we peek into the abyss of the Spam folder to find a few gems and imagine … what if I were really going to reply to these random crazy comments?  Take a look at what I might say (when I reference a specific post in my replies, that’s the post that the spam comment was left on): I have read the post with amazing satisfaction and also could understand something brand new that I will use for my further requirements. The guide is clear and bright, without any further useless facts or else. The speech is equally brilliant and vibrant, so the longer I see, the more I really do enjoy it! Anyway, the information is quite cutting edge, so like it. Nothing but cutting-edge information around here, that’s for sure. I make sure to stay clear and bright …… Read more »

Sunday Post 20

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): I’ve been working, working, working on editing this past week. So much that I almost forgot to post anything on the blog and I haven’t been able to do much blog hopping. I plan to spend some time this evening doing that, though! We’ve also had someone come by to do work on the house, fixing issues that were caused by our plumbing disaster. Those will probably stretch out for quite a while, but at least we’re getting them taken care of slowly but surely. Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:… Read more »
