Recap of Veronica Roth’s Carve the Mark Event

Book Events 10

Last week I had the opportunity to attend a Veronica Roth event at a local bookstore called The Book Stall. I had somehow missed the initial announcements about the event, so I didn’t realize it was happening until the day of—that meant I wasn’t pre-registered and wasn’t eligible to win the opportunity to meet her, but I was still glad that I went to the event to see the interview. (100 people won that chance out of the roughly 250 people who attended.) It was fun to see her in person and I still got an autographed copy of the book. Here are some fun details: Veronica was interviewed by Sarah Enni of the podcast First Draft. They seemed to know each other well, which made the interview feel more like a fun chat between friends than a super-scripted interview! The event was started with a fun game of… Read more »

Review – Divergent by Veronica Roth

All-Time Favorites, Reviews 3 ★★★★★

I finally caught up with the rest of the world and read Divergent!!  And I have to say that I completely see what all the hype was about.  This book had me hooked from the very beginning and I did not want to put it down!  (Luckily, I had book #2 in hand, which I am now reading, so I really didn’t have to).  I loved, loved, LOVED this book and can’t wait to read books #2 & 3 (and to see the movie – this definitely seems like the kind of book that will translate really well onto the big screen!). Since I’m pretty much the last person in the world to read this book and the synopsis explains it pretty well, I won’t bother summarizing the book.  Here are my thoughts: The negatives: Could have been more worldbuilding.  As you can tell by my 5 star rating, this was… Read more »
