#BEA16 Day Three Wrap-Up and Giveaway

#BEA16 Day Three Wrap-Up and Giveaway

BEA, Giveaways (Ended) 33

Day Three The third day of BEA was much more laid back than the first two. (By the way, if you haven’t seen my recap of Day One or Day Two – and giveaways – check them out!) By Day Three, we’d gotten almost all the books that we really wanted to snag and I was feeling like everything we grabbed this day was a nice bonus. Because of that, we wandered a bit more and spent more time just randomly hanging out with other bloggers. Of course, that doesn’t mean we still didn’t pick up a good number of books … The Lines We didn’t have to stand in as many crazy long lines on Day Three, but we did still get there very early so we could get tickets and a spot in the front of the entrance line. We showed up at 6:30 (just like the day before) but there were already more… Read more »

#BEA16 Day Two Wrap-Up & Jennifer Niven Holding Up the Universe Giveaway!!

#BEA16 Day Two Wrap-Up & Jennifer Niven Holding Up the Universe Giveaway!!

BEA, Giveaways (Ended) 40

Day Two The second day of BEA was, by far, the most tiring and crazy! (By the way, if you haven’t seen my recap of Day One and that giveaway, check it out!) This day was all about the books, and I have to tell you that by the end of the day, I had almost every book that I was really hoping for. My mom and I definitely did the divide and conquer thing – we actually spent most of the day in separate lines, which meant that we got ALL the books! Standing in Lines Honestly, this was what Day Two was all about, but I was prepared for that, so it was all good. Nicole’s Highlights –  Replica, Heartless & Bookishly Ever After I actually think my favorite part of BEA Day Two (besides meeting LOTS of awesome bloggers) was standing in the Lauren Oliver Replica line. I was in the… Read more »

#BEA16 Day One Wrap-Up & Giveaway!!

#BEA16 Day One Wrap-Up & Giveaway!!

BEA, Giveaways (Ended), Let's Discuss 51

It’s hard for me to figure out how to even BEGIN this post. So much goes on at BEA, and it’s hard to put it all into words. For me, the absolute best part of the conference is meeting other bloggers and getting to know them (or getting to know them better, if I’ve already met them somehow). That goal was definitely achieved! Day One The first day was Blogger Con. My mom and I drove into the city and got there at around 8:30 (two hour drive at that time of the morning because of the traffic, but it was totally worth it). If I’m being honest, I wasn’t all that excited about the keynote speaker for Blogger Con – she was a great speaker and her story was interesting, but it just didn’t feel very relevant because she’s not a book blogger. And her story about her rise to HGTV… Read more »

BEA is Coming Soon! What You Need to Know. (BEA Tips)

BEA is Coming Soon! What You Need to Know. (BEA Tips)

BEA, Blogging Tips, Let's Discuss 28

So, this will be my second trip to BEA (I headed to NY in 2014), and I thought it would be good to share some of the wisdom I gained from going last time. I realized that there will be a lot of newbies headed to BEA this year, since some people who haven’t been able to make it to NY will be able to make it to Chicago. BE PREPARED TO WAIT (AND CHAT WITH PEOPLE) BEA is mostly waiting in lines. I just want to set this expectation for all you newbies. You will be waiting in lines for autographing, waiting for galley drops, waiting to get tickets for autographing sessions … 99% of what you will be doing at BEA is waiting. For really popular authors or signings, lines start forming an hour and a half ahead of the autographing time. Even for galley drops, lines often start an… Read more »

BEA or the Other Guys – Let’s Discuss

BEA or the Other Guys – Let’s Discuss

BEA, Let's Discuss 17

I’m definitely planning on going to a major book conference this year, but I’m not positive if I should head to BEA (the tried and true) or attend one of those other guys – the other major book conferences. **************** So, BEA is coming up in May, of course. If you’re not sure what BEA is, check out my recap posts about BEA 2014. Last year was my first year attending the conference and I LOVED it! I honestly think that the best part about it was meeting other bloggers and getting to know them. It really made me feel like a part of the blogging community for the first time. I still keep in touch with a lot of the bloggers that I met there and there was just a certain excitement about being involved in something so HUGE! Now, I am 99% sure that I’m heading back to… Read more »

10 Mistakes I Made at BEA (and One BIG Mistake that They Made!)

10 Mistakes I Made at BEA (and One BIG Mistake that They Made!)

BEA, Book Events 0

So, I learned a lot being a first-timer to BEA this year!  Now that I’ve been through the experience, there are a few things I’d do differently.  I thought I’d share for those of you who might make it there in future years!10 Mistakes I Made at BEA  Me and my roommate, Jenni 1. Left my Roomie Hanging – If you read my recap of Day 1 of BEA, you know that my poor roommate had to hang out in the hotel lobby for hours waiting for me to get there so she could check-in.  Oops!!  And while this wasn’t exactly my fault (I thought I had all the bases covered by adding her name to the reservation), I should have made sure that we communicated a little better before we checked in – then I would have known that she didn’t have a CC with her and was planning… Read more »

BEA Recap Day 2

BEA Recap Day 2

BEA, Book Events 0

I’m too tired to do a long post about today, but I thought I’d come do a little update.  Today the mad rush truly began.  But, surprisingly, it wasn’t as crazy as I thought it would be.  Maybe it’s because I went in with a pretty low-key attitude, but I didn’t feel terribly overwhelmed.  I think it helped a lot that I met up with some really awesome bloggers who made the day incredibly fun.  Sure, I sat in a line for an hour and a half – but I was just sitting there chatting about books and blogging. Nothing bad about that! I am loving making new blogger friends! Best author moment of the day for me was definitely meeting Julie Kagawa.  She was out taking pictures and video of the insanely long line that stretched around the convention center for the Teen Harlequin signing and she was nice… Read more »

BEA Recap Day 1

BEA Recap Day 1

BEA, Book Events 21

Travel Woes So, I made it through Day #1 of my very first BEA!!!  It was looking a little touch and go there for a while, since my flight was delayed by about 2 hours (and some flights from Chicago to NYC were cancelled).  I was just praying that I would make it here at all!  My poor roommate (Jennifer from Live to Read, Read to Live) flew all the way in from Ireland and got here at 2:00 PM, but couldn’t check in because she didn’t have a credit card.  So I spent the day yesterday scrambling around, calling places, trying to get someone to help me figure out a way to get the poor girl checked in!  Luckily she had a book and didn’t mind reading in the lobby while we got it all sorted out.  (Which we did finally.)  I didn’t get in until after midnight and… Read more »

BEA, here I come!! Need tips? Check here!!

BEA, Book Events 0

It’s official!  My flight is booked, my tickets are purchased – I’m heading to BEA this year!  (Including the BEA Bloggers Conference!).   So, are you going too?  Let me know because I REALLY want to meet all of you! I cannot wait!! Being a newbie BEA attender, I’ve been desperate to find all the advice I can get.  So, for my own knowledge, I decided to put together a list of links to people’s advice posts.  That way I can read and re-read and read again.  Since I was going to the trouble to make this list for myself, I thought I’d share it with all of you as well.  You can find the list on my  BEA 2014 Tips Page! I’m updating this list regularly as I find more and more people who are posting their awesome advice.  Trust me, there’s lots of info here, and I’ve learned… Read more »
