Only a Breath Apart by Katie McGarry: Review & $50 Giveaway

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 12 ★★★★½

Oh, how I love Katie McGarry. In anyone else’s hands, I think this book would have been overdramatic and overwrought—a teenage boy with a tragic past who has always loved the girl next door, who’s dealing with abuse in her family. There’s a lot of angst here. But McGarry draws me in to her characters and makes me relate to them in such intimate ways. She makes sure that the pain in these two lives feels real, and doesn’t just feel like drama. Anyway, on to my more specific review… What Fed My Addiction: Abuse depicted realistically. The relationship between Scarlett and her father is complicated. While Scarlett hates her father’s actions and she fears him, she also has good memories of him, and those sometimes cloud her thinking. Plus, everyone else in her family seems to forgive him, so she wonders why she can’t seem to do the same—and if… Read more »

Say You’ll Remember Me by Katie McGarry: Review & Giveaway

Say You’ll Remember Me by Katie McGarry: Review & Giveaway

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 44 ★★★★½

Say You’ll Remember Me is just what I’ve come to expect to Katie McGarry. It’s the type of contemporary that makes me laugh and makes me cry and leaves me truly thinking about all the complexities of the themes. These are my favorite types of contemporaries! What Fed My Addiction: Elle’s Complex family dynamics. Elle’s family life is complicated, to say the least. But I love that McGarry doesn’t give us straight-up villainous, controlling parents. At so many points through the book, they show that they truly care about Elle and think that they’re looking out for her best interests. They pressure her into a lot of things, but they really do try to give her a choice, at least from their perspective—they sit down with her and talk to her about her role on the campaign and ask if she’s okay with it. It’s not that they don’t give her a… Read more »

Long Way Home by Katie McGarry – 5 Star Review, Excerpt & Giveaway

Long Way Home by Katie McGarry – 5 Star Review, Excerpt & Giveaway

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 18 ★★★★★

I’m telling you right now, Katie McGarry’s writing is downright addictive. This third book in the Thunder Road Series had me completely captivated from start to finish and there was no way I could put it down. Seriously, this is the type of book that gives my blog its name because I found myself falling deeper and deeper into the story and completely ignoring all those real world things that were calling for my attention. They just had to wait.  What Fed My Addiction: Violet and Chevy. It helped a lot that I was invested in the romance between Violet and Chevy from page one—they were featured heavily enough in the first two books in the series that I was already rooting for them before I even picked up the book. And I wasn’t let down. The strong bond between these two characters is palpable, and their love and desire for each… Read more »

Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry – Review & Giveaway

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 12 ★★★★½

When I saw that another book was coming out in McGarry’s Thunder Road Series, I was so excited. This series is incredibly unique because of the biker culture – it’s hard not to be fascinated, even by the parts of the lifestyle that make me raise my eyebrows a little. This installment focused on Razor (who we met in the last book) and Breanna, one of his fellow classmates. Razor is struggling to trust the men in the club when evidence surfaces that his mother’s death wasn’t an accident – he can’t let the past go and can’t escape the feeling that the people who are supposed to love him have been hiding things from him. Meanwhile, Breanna just wants to escape from her small town and huge family, but that’s threatened when one of the guys in her class takes an incriminating picture of her (with Razor) and threatens to… Read more »

Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry – Review & Giveaway

Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry – Review & Giveaway

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 19 ★★★★½

I don’t know what I expected Nowhere But Here to be exactly, but I do know that it completely exceeded my expectations. This is really the first book I’ve read with the motorcycle club trope, and I didn’t love everything about the club itself, but there were some things that I definitely did love. But, more than that, McGarry had me hooked with this story! I had no idea how many surprises were going to be thrown at me – and I loved them all!! What I loved: Emily and Oz. Emily and Oz seem like an unlikely pair. In fact, they don’t even really think that they like each other at all – though they realize that they’re attracted to each other. But, unlike some books where the guy is actually a jerk and the girl really shouldn’t like him, in this case, Emily and Oz’s denials were really based on preconceived notions of each other. Oz doesn’t… Read more »

Review – Crash Into You by Katie McGarry

Review – Crash Into You by Katie McGarry

Reviews 10 ★★★★

***NOTE: This is a review of book #3 in a series. This book is pretty much a standalone, but my review contains slight spoilers for the first two books. You can read my review of book #1 HERE and book #2 HERE.*** I didn’t love Crash Into You quite as much as the first two books in this series, but it was still a great read! This story centers around Isaiah, who is feeling alone after losing Beth. When finances threaten to take Noah away from him too, he decides to make money the one way he can – by racing. Things get complicated, though, when the race gets busted by the cops and he flees with Rachel, a good little rich girl who showed up at the race for thrills. The police are the least of their problems, though. The slimy thug who runs the races thinks that Rachel helped… Read more »

Review – Dare You To by Katie McGarry

Review – Dare You To by Katie McGarry

Reviews 14 ★★★★★

***NOTE: Even though this is a review of book #2 in a series, this book is pretty much a standalone and my review doesn’t contain spoilers for book #1. You can read my review of book #1 HERE.*** This was my favorite book in the Pushing the Limits series (out of the three I’ve read so far). I found myself really wrapped up in Beth’s story. At first, I thought I was going to be disappointed because I really liked Isaiah and Beth together, and I hated the idea of a book where they get split up. But I ended up really loving it! The synopsis does a good job describing the book, so I’ll jump straight to my review. What I LOVED: Beth’s family ties. The romance wasn’t the most compelling aspect of this book (though I did love it). I was even more intrigued by Beth’s messed up family… Read more »

Even Echo can’t remember the whole truth of that horrible night.
