Bite-Sized Reviews of Umbertouched, Meet the Sky, Furyborn, and Reclaiming Shilo Snow

Bite-Sized Reviews of Umbertouched, Meet the Sky, Furyborn, and Reclaiming Shilo Snow

Reviews 10 ★★★★

I’ve got four YA reviews for you today, two fantasy, one sci-fi and a contemporary. I hope these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! This book is the high-stakes conclusion to the Rosemarked non-magical fantasy duology. This second book in the duology felt very different from the first, mostly because it focuses on the aftermath of the choices that Zivah and Dineas made in book one and on the battles that ensue. My favorite part of this book was seeing Dineas deal with the repercussions of his dual life—he’s now an outsider to both his own people and the Amparans. He sees the Amparans as the enemy, but he also knows some of them as friends and he understands them in ways he hadn’t before. His own people look at him with distrust and sometimes outright hostility. His struggle to come to terms with these things… Read more »

The Evaporation of Sofi Snow: Review and Giveaway

The Evaporation of Sofi Snow: Review and Giveaway

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 6 ★★★★

The Evaporation of Sofi Snow is a fantastic blend of intelligent and unique sci fi that doesn’t get so technical that you get lost in the details. This is my favorite type of sci-fi: there are enough technical details to make it all feel real, but not so many that I feel like my brain is overflowing with it. For me, that makes for an altogether enjoyable sci-fi read! What Fed My Addiction: All the mysteries. This book is filled with mysteries that get unpacked as the book progresses. Who are the Delonese and what do they want with humans? Who took Shilo and what are they doing to him (and why)? Who set off the bomb that almost killed Sofi? What happened between Sofi and Miguel in the past? Who is blackmailing Miguel and what exactly do they have on him? All of these questions kept me turning the pages and made… Read more »

Siren’s Song by Mary Weber – Review

Siren’s Song by Mary Weber – Review

Reviews 7 ★★★½

I absolutely adored the first two books in this series, so I was eager to dive into this final installment. Unfortunately, I have to confess that my experience reading this one was marred a bit by the simple fact that I couldn’t remember enough of what had happened in the first two books and I therefore struggled with connecting to the story – both the high stakes and the secondary characters. Still, by the end, I was absolutely in love again. This is the type of series that I think I’d like to read again someday (and I never reread!) all at once so that I can experience it properly! What Fed My Addiction: Nym and Eogan. The connection between Nym and Eogan has always been one of my favorite aspects of the series. I’m a romantic at heart, and these two are the ultimate example of a couple who… Read more »

Siren’s Fury by Mary Weber – Review & Giveaway

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 20 ★★★★

***NOTE: This review is for the second book in The Storm Siren Trilogy and may contain spoilers for the first book. You can find my review of book #1 HERE.*** It’s been quite a while since I read, Storm Siren – so long, in fact, that I had to skim it before I read this second book in the trilogy. I remembered that I loved it and that there was a huge cliffhanger, but I didn’t remember what it was! Well, I was definitely glad that I refreshed my memory because SO much happens in these books, and those little details matter. I was just as impressed with this second book in the series as I was with the first, though I wasn’t quite as wrapped up in the story. Still, I feel like Weber pulled out all the stops, especially at the end of the book, and she has me begging… Read more »
