The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials Collector’s Edition Release! (Plus, a Review of The Maze Runner)

The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials Collector’s Edition Release! (Plus, a Review of The Maze Runner)

Reviews 17 ★★★★

Today I’m reviewing The Maze Runner, which is included in the special collector’s edition that releases today. The collector’s edition also includes The Scorch Trials, but I haven’t finished that one yet, mostly because I had trouble prying the book out of my 12-year-old son’s hands (he literally hid it from me sometimes so that I couldn’t take it from him!). My review of The Scorch Trials half of the book will be coming in the next week or two. If you’re curious what my son thought about both books, check out his review over on my other blog – Best Kids’ Reads. I’d watched The Maze Runner movie with my kids not long ago, so I knew basically what to expect from the book. I enjoyed the movie and was looking forward to reading the original story in book form. It didn’t disappoint! The story follows Thomas, who finds… Read more »

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers – Review

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers – Review

I am a huge fan of this series! I’m so glad that I found it! The final book in the series focuses on Annith, who desperately wants to flee the “destiny” that the abbess has set before her – to become the new Seer. What I loved: Tangled webs. This book has the most twists and turns of any in the series. Annith discovers a lot about her own background in this book and we learn it right along with her. Now I do have to say that there were some twists (especially those about Annith’s background) that I saw coming – I do tend to figure out twists in books pretty consistently though. And there was one major twist that I didn’t see coming – it was a big surprise, and I LOVED it!! Balthazar and the Hellequin. My favorite parts of this book were the parts that involved Balthazar and the Hellequin. The… Read more »

Review – The 100 by Kass Morgan

Review – The 100 by Kass Morgan

Reviews 26 ★★★★

I was a little late to the CW TV show. I just basically marathoned the entire first season and half of the second season over Christmas break. And, of course, after watching the show, I was curious to read the book that had started it all. I had heard that the book and the show were quite different, so I was prepared for that going in. There’s no Finn or Raven in the books, Wells doesn’t die, and we see life on the ship through the eyes of a character named Glass, not through any of the adults’ eyes. Still, I enjoyed seeing this new perspective on The 100 and I will definitely be reading the other books in the series. What I enjoyed: Glass and Luke. I actually felt the most connected to the two characters who aren’t in the TV series at all. I really enjoyed Glass and Luke’s… Read more »

Review – The Walled City by Ryan Graudin

Review – The Walled City by Ryan Graudin

I have to say that I really sort of fell in love with this book. I went into it thinking that it was going to be a dystopian, and it really sort of is, except at the end, if you read the author’s notes, you’ll find that the book is based on a real life place – a place that actually existed. Make sure that you head over to this site to see pictures of Kowloon Walled City, and to find out more about it. There were once 33,000 people living within a one block radius – you honestly have to see the pictures to believe it. At any rate, back to my review. I was actually forced to put this book down a few times because I had scheduled review books that I needed to read. Usually when that happens, I find myself having a difficult time getting sucked into… Read more »
