Bite-Sized Reviews of Finale, Autoboyography, Virtually Yours and Secrets of a Fangirl

Bite-Sized Reviews of Finale, Autoboyography, Virtually Yours and Secrets of a Fangirl

Reviews 20 ★★★★

I’ve got four reviews for you today: a YA fantasy, two YA contemporaries, and a MG contemporary. I hope these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! I loved this series-ender! I’ll confess that I was nervous at first—I thought that we were going to end up with a long, drawn-out love triangle between Scarlett, Julian and Nicolas (and it was going to be played out in the form of a contest, no less), but things … didn’t go that way. Thank goodness!! I won’t say what did happen, but I’ll say that I was very pleased to see the end of that love triangle come early in the book. Now, technically there was also the love triangle with Tella, Legend and Jacks, but that one hardly felt like a true love triangle at all, and I was okay with it. Actually, in general, I liked Tella a… Read more »

Bite-Sized Reviews of Geekerella, Peasprout Chen: Future Legend of Skate and Sword, and The Crossover and Rebound

Bite-Sized Reviews of Geekerella, Peasprout Chen: Future Legend of Skate and Sword, and The Crossover and Rebound

I’ve got three reviews for you today: a YA contemporary, a MG fantasy, and two MG verse novels in a series. I hope these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! I’ve been meaning to read this book for forever because so many of my blogger friends love it. A book about fandoms is pretty much guaranteed to be a win because so many of us have been in that place of adoring a book series or movie or TV show so much that we just can’t bear to see anyone ruin the story for us! Think of all those book to movie adaptations and all the fans who are just begging the producers to be gentle with their favorite story! I loved the focus on geekdom, of course–the title pretty much tells you what you’re getting into. These are people who LOVE their show and they’re not afraid… Read more »

Bite-Sized Reviews of The Book Thief, Crank, The Chosen One and Writing Irresistible KidLit

Bite-Sized Reviews of The Book Thief, Crank, The Chosen One and Writing Irresistible KidLit

Reviews 16 ★★★★

I’ve got an eclectic collection of reviews for you today: one that’s probably considered a modern classic, one YA novel in verse, a YA contemporary about a Mormon fundamentalist group, and a nonfiction writing book. I hope these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! I debated writing an “official” review of this book, since I mostly already said everything I had to say in a random Sunday Post, but I decided to go ahead and add it here. This book is magnificently and masterfully written. The unique POV (death) makes it stand out from the crowd, and it gives the whole story an otherworldly perspective. We see human triumphs and failures through neutral eyes, and that somehow brings them into clearer focus. The language is beautiful as well. The only thing that held me back from giving this book one of my highest ratings is the… Read more »

Caraval by Stephanie Garber: Audiobook Review

Caraval by Stephanie Garber: Audiobook Review

Reviews 24 ★★★★★

Let Garber sweep you up in the fantastical game of Caraval, where the lines between fantasy and reality are undisputably blurred and you’ll never know what to expect next! What Fed My Addiction: Welcome to the game! The game of Caraval is completely fantastical and more than a little dangerous. While, on the surface, it’s just a sort of scavenger hunt where Scarlett has to follow the clues, there are a plethora of magical elements that not only make the game vastly more intriguing but also throw plenty of roadblocks in Scarlett’s way. Plus, Scarlett is never quite sure what’s real and what’s all part of the game—and as the stakes get higher and higher, that distinction becomes very important indeed. By the end, Scarlett is fighting desperately just to make it out with both her and her sister alive! Caraval is full of fascinating and whimsical surprises that kept me guessing through the entire story. Sensory… Read more »

Heartless by Marissa Meyer: Audiobook Review

Heartless by Marissa Meyer: Audiobook Review

Reviews 11 ★★★★★

This was one of my most anticipated books of the year, and it lived up to every single one of my expectations! I loved every delightful Wonderland reference, and I was incredibly intrigued to find out how Meyer imagined sweet Catherine would turn into the despicable Queen of Hearts! What Fed My Addiction: Catherine’s transformation. When the book starts out, Catherine is an incredibly sympathetic character. It’s hard to imagine how this sweet girl who dreams of being a simple baker turns into the infamous queen who screams, “Off with their heads!” at regular intervals in the Lewis Carroll classic. From the very start, we are given a strong connection to Catherine—we see her drive to escape a life she hasn’t chosen for herself. Though Catherine has been brought up a lady, the daughter of a marquess, she would give up her land and her titles for the chance to do what… Read more »
