The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.
What’s been happening since my last Sunday Post:
On Friday, I attended a Kamala Harris rally in Milwaukee!!! It’s exciting to experience history first-hand. I’m truly hoping I just saw the next President of the United States, one who spreads positivity instead of discord.
If you haven’t yet, please make sure you vote!!! I submitted my vote by mail and got my confirmation that it was received!
I have zero other things to report here. Oh, I guess I could tell you about movies I’ve seen. Scott, my mom, and I have AMC A-List passes, so we see a lot more movies lately! So in the last few weeks, we went to see:
- My Old A** (LOL – I try not to swear on my blog, just in case any kids come around here) – This one was way better than I was expecting. I mean, I’m always a sucker for a good time travel/alternate reality storyline, but I wasn’t expecting to get quite so emotionally invested. We all really loved it!
- Goodrich – We went into this one basically blind (we read the description right before we got the ticket, but that was it). It’s labeled as a Comedy, but we all agreed that it was grossly mislabeled. Like, I guess there were some humorous parts? So once we got past the expectation of going to a funny movie, we thought this was really good (in a sort of sad way).Would definitely recommend, but NOT as a comedy.
- We Live in Time – I thought after briefly reading the description of this one that there was going to be time travel or something involved, but there definitely wasn’t. Still, for some reason, the missed expectation didn’t throw me like it did in the last one. (Maybe because I realized it very early on.) This is a very sad, realistic romance told in a non-linear fashion. Really good. I actually went to this one alone at 10pm after work when my mom and Scott went to visit Danielle at Purdue (we were supposed to go the week before, but couldn’t because Scott was sick – and I had to work the next weekend, so I couldn’t go with them.)
Book News:
- I found out that TSoOG is getting an audiobook!!! This is really exciting because I definitely wasn’t sure it was going to happen. It feels like every book has an audiobook, but that’s definitely not true, especially with middle grade and especially with verse novels. Considering that three out of the five members of my immediate family (I’m including my mom in that) basically only consume books in audio form, I was pretty disappointed when I thought I might not get one. (And I know the importance of them for accessibility, just based on my own family!!)
- I made a trailer for TSoOG! I wasn’t at all sure about my ability to make one, but I’m actually really happy with how it turned out. And here’s the amazing thing – my friend Deanna at work actually wrote (and played) this song for me based on the little tune I included on the bookplate for the pre-order campaign! How amazing is that?!! And, no, this was not me hiring her to do this (though I did offer to pay her for her time), she just saw my bookplate and took it upon herself to turn it into a full-on song! I will forever adore her for this!!!

Speaking of the pre-order campaign… - My preorder campaign is live!! Well, sort of. This is actually the very first place I’m posting about it, but it’s up and I will post on socials tomorrow. So, you guys get the first look!!! You can find out the details on my author website! (Click the link to be brought directly to the preorder page.)
- I know some of you already preordered (thank you!!!), and I have a list going to contact people if I need to, but it would make things easier if you please go ahead and fill out the form.
- But NOTE: If I know you, don’t worry about finding your preorder receipt to upload; just upload a Word doc that says hi or a picture of yourself or anything else you want to upload. LOL! I only included the upload so I don’t get a bunch of spam responses, but if I know you, I obviously trust that you ordered.
- The preorder campaign also works for library requests, so if you can’t afford to order the book, feel free to request it at your local library!! (Heck, even if you have ordered the book, I’d love it if you requested it at your local library – it’s a great way to get the book out to more readers and helps authors a lot!!)
- If you haven’t preordered yet and you want a signed/personalized copy, you can call Barnes & Noble Mellody Farm in Vernon Hills, IL to order one. It will automatically come with the pre-order goodies. (If you already ordered, we’ll just have to meet up sometime IRL so I can sign and personalize yours. What a shame!)
As a reminder, the book is available on both Edelweiss and NetGalley. Go forth and read! 🙂 (And if you do, I’d appreciate it if you leave a review!) Also, it’s a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, and you can read about my inspiration for the book here.
What I Read:
- I listened to A Kind of Spark by Elle McNicoll. I always try to read all the books on the Rebecca Caudill list (which is the IL state award for 4th-6th grade) so I can recommend them at work, and this is on the list this year. Loved it! It’s a fantastic read that’s a great mirror/window for autism.
- Then I listened to Stronger at the Seams by Shannon Stocker. This YA novel puts a spotlight on having a mis-diagnosed illness, an occurrence that is far too common.
- Next was How to Become a Planet by Nicole Melleby (another one on the Caudill list), which deals with depression in a really realistic way. One of the few MG books where the MC themselves is struggling with depression.
- And, finally, I listened to Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper, which I wanted to read before I watch the movie on Disney+.
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

Lots of good stuff! Have any news? Feel free to share in the comments!
I read Out of My Head a few years ago. It was great. I hope they do a good job with the adaptation. The trailer is wonderful, and congratulations on the audiobook.
Congrats on the audiobook. Loved the trailer.
That is so exciting you are getting an audiobook!
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
That’s a wonderful trailer! Also, I love what you’re doing with the preorder campaign. I’ll be sure to put in my order! And congratulations on the audiobook. You are right; they’re very important. I hope they are giving you a human narrator, not an AI.
When my editor sent over the terms for the audiobook, it said I get to consult on the narrator, so I don’t think it will be AI. (Oh, actually, I just looked up the company and confirmed they only use human narrators – that hadn’t even occurred to me, so I’m glad you mentioned it!)
And thank you so much for pre-ordering!! I’m very excited for the pre-order campaign!!
That’s great that the audiobook company only uses human narrators! I won’t listen to an AI narrator, and it seems a lot of booklovers feel the same.
Congrats on getting your book in audiobook too! Your trailer is cool. And how exciting that you saw Kamala Harris. I didn’t go to the rally in Ann Arbor, but I went to one a long time ago for Bill Clinton and saw Hillary and Chelsea.
I love the book trailer and congratulations on the audiobook!
I am glad you voted and I am very curious about the elections results! Also congrats on the audiobook!
Congratulations on the audiobook! I’m Canadian but will be following the election closely.
Congrats on the audiobook! I hope you have a great week.
So I was wondering if the first movie you mentioned was any good. It looks funny, so I need to see it! I love your book trailer! Can’t wait till I can get started reading in a few months! Hope your week goes okay!
