Two Dark Reigns by Kendare Blake: Release Day Review & Giveaway!

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 32 ★★★★½

I have not been this obsessed with a series ever. I’ve certainly never prepared to read a new book in a series so thoroughly: I first reread “The Young Queens” And then read “The Oracle Queen” (I posted a Spoiler-Filled Discussion of both novellas just yesterday.) Then I read recaps of both Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne (Click the link if you need a reminder and want to read the recaps on Recaptains) And then reread my Spoiler-Filled Discussions of TDC and ODT as well. For me, that’s a lot of prep work! But it’s all worth it because the mysteries in this series keep getting twistier and twistier, and I love every minute of the sleuthing!! You can watch for a Spoiler-Filled Discussion of Two Dark Reigns to come next week (to give more people a chance to read it first), but for now, check out my completely… Read more »

A Spoiler-Filled Discussion of The Young Queens and The Oracle Queen (AKA Queens of Fennbirn)

A Spoiler-Filled Discussion of The Young Queens and The Oracle Queen (AKA Queens of Fennbirn)

Spoiler-Filled Discussion 7

NOTE: In case you missed the title of this post, BE WARNED NOW THAT IT WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS! If you want my non-spoilery thoughts on the books in this series, check out my reviews instead! Or, if you’ve only read the first two books, then feel free to check out my Spoiler-Filled Discussions of Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne! (And then immediately read the novellas and come back here!) So, my review of Two Dark Reigns is coming TOMORROW (I’m excited, okay?), and I thought I should do a little talking about the two novellas in Queens of Fennbirn before I jump into book three. I’ll talk about what we learned in “The Young Queens” and “The Oracle Queen” and my predictions about what these revelations might mean for the overarching story of the series. In this novella, we get to see details of the queens’ (and Jules’s) lives when they… Read more »

Bite-Sized Reviews of Love, Life, and the List, The Young Queens, Seriously Wicked and The Wolves of Mercy Falls Series

Bite-Sized Reviews of Love, Life, and the List, The Young Queens, Seriously Wicked and The Wolves of Mercy Falls Series

Reviews 38

I’ve got four bite-sized reviews of YA books today. Three books and a series! I hope these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! This book is SO Kasie West (which is a very good thing, trust me). First off, I pretty much always love stories that involve best friends becoming more—I’m a complete sucker for that trope. But this book is a lot more than the romance. Abby is a pretty typical seventeen-year-old—she thinks she has her life pretty much figured out in a lot of ways but then something happens that shakes her belief in herself and her insecurities come rushing in. I’m sure that a lot of YA readers will be able to relate to this. Family ties are incredibly important in the story. Abby’s relationship with her mom (who struggles with agoraphobia) and her dad (who is stationed overseas, but we still get to see him via email… Read more »

Bite-Sized Reviews of One Dark Throne, Wonder Woman: Warbringer, Before She Ignites & A Crown of Wishes

Bite-Sized Reviews of One Dark Throne, Wonder Woman: Warbringer, Before She Ignites & A Crown of Wishes

Reviews 26

I’ve got four bite-sized reviews today—three of these are recent releases and one is a book I’ve been avoiding for a while. Oh, and a “bonus” review of a novella. 🙂  I hope these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! If you’ve already read this book, check out my Spoiler-Filled Discussion of One Dark Throne and let me know your thoughts and predictions about what’s going to happen next! If you’ve been around my blog at all in the past year, you know I’ve been anxiously awaiting this book. After all, I adored the first book—and then my Spoiler-Filled Discussion of Three Dark Crowns became my most viewed post of ever, which managed to keep the series at the forefront of my mind (always important when you’re waiting for the next book). I even reread TDC in preparation for One Dark Throne, and I never reread. (Turns… Read more »

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake – 5 Star “That Was Awesome” Review & Giveaway

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake – 5 Star “That Was Awesome” Review & Giveaway

All-Time Favorites, Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 21 ★★★★★

This book had me hooked from the very start. I was pretty much fascinated by this story of triplets who are all raised as queens – destined to kill each other after they turn sixteen (well, one of them has to kill the other two – the future all balances on which of them succeeds).  The Queens: We first meet Katharine, who is supposed to be a poisoner (which, somewhat ironically, actually means that she’s immune to poison), but we find out right away that her gift has failed to show up. She’s been raised under horrible circumstances – basically, her caretakers have been poisoning her her entire life, trying to help her build up some sort of immunity to poison so that she won’t look weak and so that she can still kill her sisters and win the crown. Next we meet Arsinoe, who also has no gift and has been pretty much overlooked her… Read more »
