I was thrilled this year to get a beautiful bookcase for Christmas!! The bookcases in our house are all completely full – overflowing, really – and so I was super excited to get a new bookcase to put in our bedroom.
My new bookcase is oh, so pretty and perfect in every way except one – it still doesn’t hold all of my books!! (The picture above doesn’t show all of my random books that were sitting around, only some of them!) I do have one small shelf that I’m going to add some bookish knick-knacks to …
So, I was more than thrilled when I came home and my husband said, “So, do you want one more bookcase or two?” Best. Husband. Ever.
We’re getting two more. One more this size and a smaller one in the same style. Woo hoo!
So, what kind of bookish gifts did you get for Christmas?
Shannon over at It Starts at Midnight tagged me on this one. I’m a little bit late, but I figured better late than never, right?
1. What is one gift you remember wanting really badly as a kid? Did you get it?
I remember one year, I really wanted a jewelry box. I opened all of my gifts and was so sad when I hadn’t gotten it. I was really trying to act happy about everything I’d gotten, but apparently I wasn’t doing all that well, because my parents kept saying, “What’s wrong, don’t you like your presents?” Turns out, they were just teasing me. My dad had actually made me a jewelry box, but it wasn’t quite done yet (I get my procrastination from him). They brought me into his woodshop in the garage and I was thrilled with my castle jewelry box. I still own it today!
2. What do you want now? What is your ultimate Christmas wish?
The bookcase above. Yay!!!
3. Best holiday-themed book you’ve read?
Honestly, I haven’t read very many holiday themed books, but I really enjoyed Jamie Adman’s North Pole Reform School – it was a fun, goofy Christmas book!
4. Do you like Christmas movies? Which is your favorite? Or are you all Grinchy like me?
I’m not big into the old Christmas movies, but my husband LOVES A Christmas Story, so we watch that a lot of years. I still love the old cartoons like Rudolph and Frosty.
5. Do you dress up for the holidays, or go for comfort?
More on the comfort side. On Christmas Eve, I usually wear nice jeans and a sweater or something. Nothing too fancy, but I try to look nice. This year, I made an effort to look nice on Christmas Day too, but I don’t always!
6. What is the best gift you have ever given someone else? Tell us about it!
Gosh, this is a hard one. When we were younger, I gave my husband sky diving for one birthday (we did it together – quite fun!) and a day at a race car driving school for another birthday. His family joked that I was trying to get him killed.
7. Are there any holiday traditions or customs specific to your region, country, etc? If so, do tell!
Nothing that I can think of. We always hope for a white Christmas here in Chicago (though it doesn’t seem like it happens all that often).
8. Book boyfriend that you’d love to see with a bow under the tree?
Ridge from Maybe Someday.
9. Did you do anything special so far to celebrate? Maybe made some cookies, decorated, etc? Show us!
We decorated – lots of lights outside (it’s daytime right now, so I can’t take a picture, but that reminds me that we should). We also decorated our tree, which is covered with lots of fun, special ornaments. We don’t do the “pretty tree” – ours is covered in hand-made and keepsake ornaments, none of which go together, but all of which make me very happy. This year, my father-in-law carved ornaments for all of the kids, so we will be adding those to the tree!
10. Which book do you really want to find its way to your house for Christmas?
I actually didn’t ask for any books (just the bookcase), but I have a couple in mind that I want to buy for myself! 🙂
That’s it. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!!
LOVE the bookcases! What an amazing present 🙂 It’s always frustrating when you run out of room on your shelf! Haha, it’s crazy how books take up so much space! Glad to see you had a great Christmas!

Thanks! Yes, the lack of book storage space is a serious issue. 🙂
Merry Christmas!! I could really use some new bookcases too, except I have no room! LOL Those ornaments are adorable- your grandfather did a great job. I don’t usually ask for books either…I just get them myself.

I’d rather just buy books on a whim than ask for them for Christmas! 🙂
That’s such a sweet story about your jewelry box! The new bookshelf looks beautiful:D Merry Christmas!
Thanks!! I love my jewelry box still today. And, of course, I love my bookcase!
That new bookshelf is so awesome!

Thanks! I’m loving it!
Lovely new bookcase! Your husband’s awesome. 😉 I probably need a new one, too–I mean, my shelves now have enough space for double stacking, but I want to be able to see ALL my books. ;D
And wow, I love those ornaments! They look gorgeous. Happy holidays! <3
Yeah, my husband is pretty awesome. 🙂 Hope you get some new bookcases soon!
Merry Christmas,Nicole!I am actually quite jealous of your bookcases,I’ve been wanting a new one for months. My book cupboard and case are overflowing now,and I really need a new one.
You do have a wonderful husband Nicole.I dream of one who will build me book cases just like my father does for me.Hmm,well,a girl can hope, can’t she?
Yeah, the bookcases downstairs are overflowing too (and those are giant ones) – oh, and the ones in the kids’ rooms. So many books!!
A great gift! I’m looking to buy a new bookcase too, to fit all my books in that don’t fit in my other one anymore. Whenever I have free space to put books it is always filled within no time though. First I arrange space to accomodate my books and then I buy books to fill the new space, haha.
Yes, that is the problem. More space for books just means more books!
Ahhhh!! BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BOOKCASES!!!!!!!!!! <3
I knew that my book loving friends would appreciate those bookcases! 🙂
Hehe! They are gorgeous after all!! I desperately need a new bookshelf as well! My current one is a lot like yours, but white. I hope I get a new one soon! (Well, I hope I get more books so that I can fill that shelf up COMPLETELY and THEN get a new shelf! :D)
That’s a really neat jewelry box! And I like the bookcase too. And that lamp has a neat shade.
I actually got gift cards this year, which means I’m going to have to buy another bookcase soon as I don’t have room for more books. You’d think 9 tall bookcases would have room somewhere for more books… *laughs*
Thanks! I’m loving the bookcases, and of course, I’ve always loved the jewelry box – it was nice to have a dad who could make me beautiful things! 🙂
The bookcase looks lovely! And I hope you like the others that are on the way as well. And it’s awesome that you have kept the jewelry box you wanted so much ^^ The ornaments look very well done as well. If only I had a talent like that one.
The other two bookcases will be here on Wednesday. Woo hoo!
Oh my goodness, that bookcase is AMAZING! I got a new bookcase, but it looks like your old bookcase actually, and my old (overflowing) bookcase is a bit like your new one, it terms of size at least. The jewelry box is SO sweet, I love that story! The carved ornaments are adorable too 🙂 I am so glad you had such a lovely Christmas!
Yeah, it’s really pretty and it matches our bedroom furniture perfectly. I can’t wait for the other two to get here Wednesday! 🙂
Wow that jewelry box is so cool! I also like the ornaments. Hand crafted stuff is the best!
Yeah, it’s awesome to get handmade gifts!
GORGEOUS NEW BOOKCASE Nicole!! ♥ I agree: best.husband.ever! Thanks for sharing a lovely shelfie with us too 😀 I’m glad to see you had a wonderful CHristmas! Oh and I wish I’d seen the Christmas tag earlier,I probably would have participated. LOVED reading your answers though ♥ If we don’t chat again before then: HAPPY NEW YEAR xx
I know, I didn’t manage to get to the Christmas Tag till Christmas was over! Happy New Year!
New bookshelves are just as exciting as new books! Especially when they’re needed. 🙂 I just love organizing my books onto a shelf (or re-organizing, if the mood strikes).
Your dad made that? It’s gorgeous! And I’m with you on the tree decorations. Our tree has a big hodge podge of ornaments my brother and I made over the years, ornaments we were given as gifts or gave one another, and a few pretty ones, too. I like that it’s personal and tells a bit of a story. We have things my parents were given the first year they were married that make it on the tree every year. Much better than a fancy tree, in my opinion. 🙂
Yes, my husband was totally laughing at how specific I was being in my book organization! LOL! Totally agree with you about the tree – I’ll take a hodge-podge tree over a fancy one any day. 🙂
That bookshelf looks so pretty. Glad you had a great Christmas!
Thanks, Cynthia!
I try to make stone gifts for a fee people at xmas…Maybe that is my personal tradition. This test I did cookies for a bunch of folks. Hmm one year I really wanted a violin (I played in school) but instead my dad got me a guitar because it was what he wanted be to play. I never did
My son plays violin, and it’s such a beautiful instrument! Expensive though. 🙂
Now I’m curious about these stone gifts. What kind? I want to see them!
Ooh, the bookcase looks great! I really want a new one sometime.
I go for comfort on the holidays too. My family isn’t one for dressing up. We don’t go for the “pretty tree” much either. We have a bunch of random ornaments. Some that my brothers or I made when we were kids and some ornaments we bought from the store.
Those are the best kind of ornaments! 🙂
Sorry stone was a typo lol it was supposed to be “some”. darn my Swype on my phone lol I really should proof read my comments
Ha! Swype gets me quite often too! It seems like it works perfectly some days, and then other days it just goes crazy and has me sending out all sorts of interesting texts. I’ve definitely had to learn to proofread! 🙂
I agree – best husband ever! So glad you got new bookcases! I should probably be in the market for a larger one, but I kind of like my little, cramped one. And it’s motivation to whittle down the TBR pile!
Yes, that’s true – I do need some motivation to get rid of some books, but I’d rather just get bigger bookcases! 🙂
