Bite-Sized Reviews – Romancing the Nerd, Into the Dim, Tuck Everlasting, Island of the Blue Dolphins

Bite-Sized Reviews – Romancing the Nerd, Into the Dim, Tuck Everlasting, Island of the Blue Dolphins

Reviews 12 ★★★½

A few quick reviews of some books that deserve attention. Hopefully these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! Romancing the Nerd by Leah Rae Miller Series: Nerd #2 Published by Entangled Teen on 4/5/16 Genres: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance Pages: 352 Source: NetGalley My content rating: YA (Nothing more than kissing) My rating: Dan Garrett has become exactly what he hates—popular. Until recently, he was just another live-action role-playing (LARP) geek on the lowest run of the social ladder. Cue a massive growth spurt and an uncanny skill at taking three-point shots in basketball and voila…Mr. Popular. It’s definitely weird. And the biggest drawback? Going from high school zero to basketball hero cost Dan the secret girl-of-his-dorky dreams. A tuba-playing nerd with an eclectic fashion sense, Zelda Potts’s “Coolness” stat is about minus forty-two. Dan turning his back on her and the rest of nerd-dom was brutal enough, but when he humiliates her at… Read more »

Sunday Post & Giveaways Galore 4/3/16

Sunday Post & Giveaways Galore 4/3/16

Sunday Post 24

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. Last two weeks on FYFA (and in my life): I think last week might have been the first week ever that I didn’t post a Sunday Post (at least since I started doing them). It feels so strange!! Still, I’m glad I (mostly) stuck to my plan not to post and just enjoyed my vacation in Arizona. If you’d like to see a few pics of my trip, check out my March Recap post! We had a fantabulous time! Here’s what you may have missed these past two weeks: Siren’s Song by Mary Weber – Review (I know I said there’d be a giveaway for this tour, but apparently the… Read more »

March Recap (incl. pics from my trip to Arizona!)

March Recap (incl. pics from my trip to Arizona!)

Challenges, Monthly Recap 39

My Goings On in March: It was a bit of a slow month around the blog since I was feeling a little slumpy and then headed out on vacation. I’ll be back full-steam ahead in April, though! I edited Allie Juliette Mousseau’s newest Adult/NA standalone, Stripped and started an edit of a book for a new client. We went to Tucson, Arizona for spring break and had a fabulous time! Not only did we get to visit my husband’s parents (who live in Tucson for half the year), we also got in some hiking in the beautiful desert terrain. We did a few hikes – one that was almost 9 miles and another that was a bit shorter, but got us up to a ridge with fantastic views (see the picture below). This is the first time I’ve ever been there when the cacti were in bloom and it was… Read more »

A Change in Focus – Let’s Discuss

A Change in Focus – Let’s Discuss

April Fools, Let's Discuss 74

So, most of you know that I’ve been in a bit of a slump lately. I had a week where I posted almost nothing and then a week where I went on vacation. This little slump has gotten me thinking that maybe I need to start rethinking my focus on this blog. Are books really that great? I mean, they’re just words on a page – they don’t impact the world all that much. Right now, my country is in a pivotal era. With elections coming up soon, I feel like I should talk more about a major passion that I’ve mostly avoided here on the blog – politics. Let’s face it, this is a critical time, and if each and every one of us doesn’t make our voice heard, we could head in the wrong direction. So for the foreseeable future (until November or so), my posts on this blog… Read more »
