My 2020 Goals & Challenges

My 2020 Goals & Challenges

Challenges, Let's Discuss 54

I’ve decided to switch gears mostly away from reading challenges again in 2020 so I can really focus on my writing goals. I used the Bookish Resolution Challenge for writing goals in 2019, but since they’re just year-long goals, they didn’t really motivate me—especially when things started going wrong in my household and we hit those last few months of craziness. And the waiting game with submissions isn’t particularly motivating either. I’d love to be able to say my book sold in 2019 but that’s not the reality. Here’s hoping that 2020 is the year that happens! I’m going to try hard to make solid monthly writing goals in 2020 and focus on those. (And you guys, along with my writing friend Megan, can help hold me accountable!) Here are some goals for the year, but like I said, I’m also going to break them up monthly to make them… Read more »

2019 Challenge Wrap-Up

2019 Challenge Wrap-Up

Challenges, Let's Discuss 26

I was planning to wrap up my 2019 challenges AND list my 2020 goals all in one post, but it ended up being an overwhelming behemoth of a post (that no one would actually read), so I decided to split things up after all. Watch for my 2020 goals, which will be posted on Monday.   A Wrap-Up of My 2019 Reading/Blogging Challenges: Progress: 24/21-30 Discussions (Chatty Kathy) Even though I only posted one discussion in December, I averaged out to two a month and met my goal for the year!! Nicole’s Best Books of the Decade Tales of a Social Media Failure: Is Bloglovin’ a Thing of the Past? Goodreads Choice Awards and Paste’s 30 Best Young Adult Novels of the 2010s: What Have I Read? Tales of a Social Media Failure: AKA, I Don’t Understand Instagram Stories Books YOU (Yes, You!) Should Nominate for a Cybils Award I’m… Read more »

Mid-Year Library Love Check-In and “Bonus” Connect Five

Mid-Year Library Love Check-In and “Bonus” Connect Five

Challenges 25

I’ve been posting updates on this challenge every month, but one thing I haven’t done that Angel did in her mid-year check-in is figure out how much money I’ve been saving by utilizing my library. I thought that was a fantastic idea, so I decided to go ahead and calculate my savings! I used $14.99 for all Audiobooks, since that’s what I would have been paying if I’d used my Audible subscription for them. For everything else, I just used list price (I was going to either use Amazon or my local indie, but they weren’t all currently available, so list price seemed easiest). MY SAVINGS: $644.49  Oh, and these aren’t included in the challenge, but as long as I’m calculating savings, I should include the audiobooks that my son has listened to from the library. He’s listened to 45 books so far this year, and all but three of them were… Read more »

The 2019 Book Counting Challenge (and Sad News about the Discussion Challenge)

The 2019 Book Counting Challenge (and Sad News about the Discussion Challenge)

April Fools, Challenges 53

Unfortunately, Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight and I are no longer speaking for various reasons. I don’t want to get into the nitty gritty details, but it started because I still haven’t read The Serpent King and Shannon was pretty angry about it. I’ve been promising her for years that I would read that book, so I can’t exactly blame her. But then the emails started getting weird and spiraling out of control … again, I don’t want to go into too much detail because it’s not fair to anyone. At any rate, because of this, I’ve made the difficult decision to no longer host the Book Blog Discussion Challenge. I know there are going to be a lot of disappointed people because of this, and I’m really sorry. To make up for it, though, I’ve come up with a brand new challenge… The Book Counting Challenge!  This is going… Read more »

January 2019 Wrap-Up & Best of the Bunch

January 2019 Wrap-Up & Best of the Bunch

Best of the Bunch, Challenges, Monthly Recap 40

My Goings On in January: I’ve been plotting my new MG novel, and I started to do a bit of writing as well. (It’s verse, so I don’t have to necessarily write it in order). My middle daughter finished gymnastics and started indoor track. (So, a new sport to watch.) My hubby and I went to see comedian John Felts at our church for a date night.  🙂 We had record cold temps around here due to the polar vortex, and school was canceled three times in the last two weeks. Last Wednesday the windchill got to -51 degrees!!! I joined a new writer’s critique group (in addition to the SCBWI group that I already attend, which is sort of a critique group, though not solely). I registered for SCBWI’s Marvelous Midwest Conference, which is coming in May. Things I watched:  I started watching YOU on Netflix. Very creepy!… Read more »

2019 Reading Challenge Sign-Ups

2019 Reading Challenge Sign-Ups

Challenges 32

Because my focus for 2018 was on my writing, I completely gave up on all my challenges except for the Discussion Challenge about midway through the year. But I decided to try a few again this year. Hopefully I’ll do a better job keeping up with my reading challenges in 2019! My 2019 Reading/Blogging Challenges: Goal: 31-40 Discussions (Terrifically Talkative)  Of course I’m participating in this challenge since I’m hosting it! The goal of this challenge is to post book-related discussions (or getting to know you type discussions work too.) This challenge is one of my favorite aspects of blogging, and I’m excited to be continuing it (even if I did fail to hit my goal in 2018). I’m leaving my goal as Terrifically Talkative for 2019 because I really do want to post more discussions again. We shall see! Book Blog Discussion Challenge, Challenges 86

The 2020 Book Blog Discussion Challenge Sign-Up is now live! Welcome to the 2019 Book Blog Discussion Challenge hosted by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction and Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight! This challenge has been SO successful these last four years that we decided to bring it back! So often, we book bloggers mean to post more discussions on our blogs, but we just don’t quite get around to it. Well, we wanted to give everyone a little motivation to keep the discussions going, plus give us a place to link up our discussions so that more people will see our precious words of wisdom (or … you know … our GIF-filled rants). I hope you’ll join us for this challenge and pledge yourself to posting more discussions in this upcoming year. I promise we’ll have lots of fun talking together! We’ve found that the Discussion Challenge is its… Read more »
