This past week on FYFA (and in my life):
I totally reorganized my bookcases yesterday! (And my closet, but who cares about that?) I was going to add some pictures here, but then I decided I’d give them their own post because my hours and hours of work deserve more attention. (And I need post ideas lately. LOL!) SO, check in Wednesday if you want to see pics. You’ll get a tiny preview in the Book Haul section, though. 🙂
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog this past week:
- The Queen of Bright and Shiny Things by Ann Aguirre: A Dual Review with Danielle Hammelef
- Bite-Sized Reviews of Children of Blood and Bone, Dread Nation and The Walking Dead Graphic Novels

Here are the birthdays and blogoversaries this week! I hope you’ll go wish these bloggers well on their special days! Make sure you check out the calendar to see what you might have just missed or what’s coming up. (If you want to be added to the calendar, it’s easy! Just fill out the birthday/blogoversary form.)

- May 3rd – Cat on the Bookshelf‘s Blogoversary
- May 3rd – Cynthia @ Bingeing On Books‘ Birthday
- May 4th – Kaitlin Michelle @ Vivacious Hobo‘s Birthday

For Review:
I received The Storm Runner from Disney! I’m really excited about this one! (And don’t my Book Haul pics look so much prettier with my new bookshelves?)
Purchased:
I bought some books for my daughter Danielle for her birthday from Book Outlet, and of course, I had to get myself up to $35 for the free shipping. Such a tough life! I was intrigued by the concept of Because You Love to Hate Me. And I am now finally the proud owner of a Paula Stokes book (you can see my post about that here): Girl Against the Universe. I’m excited about If You’re Reading This because I’m doing that workshop with Trent Reedy in June, and lots of you had good things to say about Hello, Universe. Finally The Afterlife Academy was basically an impulse buy based on the cute cover and the very low price that helped me get to $35. (I mean, I looked it up on Goodreads too, but…)

-Lauren
You just may have spotted some! 😉
Yay for organising your bookcases! I seriously need to redo mine soon, because my little niece decided it would be fun to rearrange them herself the other day, and now they’re all over the place! 🙂
Thanks for mentioning my post, and have a great week! 🙂
Ha! So nice of her to be helpful!
Ahhh, so many giveaways! I love that cover of Storm Runner, but I’m not sure about reading it yet. I’m going to check out all the bloggers you linked to too. 😀
Vee @ Under The Mountain
I loved the first book from this imprint, so I have high hopes for this one too!
Ooh nice new reads! Some new to me ones there! Hope you enjoy them all!! And ooh, liking the peeks at your bookshelves! Reorganizing those things are definitely a workout! Can’t wait to see what the finished product looks like! Have a GREAT week!
Here’s my STS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
Reorganizing is huge because it’s so much more of a mess until you get it all done!
Nicole! I cannot wait to read about your newly organized shelves. Please, please share your process on how you decided to organize them. Right now, my shelves are messy with double stacks of read books and overcrowded unread books on other shelves. It does take some getting used to, when you change the shelves, but it is a nice change.
How old is your daughter? If you two feel comfortable, it would be so interesting to see what she likes to read and how she goes about choosing new stories? It’s something really fascinating. How do younger people find stories?!
By the way, that Afterlife Academy book looks cute! I love the cover. I am going to look more into it and perhaps add it to my wish list. Girl Against the Universe is also promising. But, I worry that the PTSD could trigger my own discomfort. I’ll have to wait and see what you think of it and do a little more research on it.
It’s always nice to stop by here. Thanks for writing beautifully and in a relatable way. *offers hugs as a thank you*
Danielle is 13. She’s a tricky reader right now because she doesn’t like books that are too sad or violent—she still sticks with a lot of MG (as long as it’s not sad MG!). She actually re-reads one series over and over and over again. The Warriors series by Erin Hunter. I’m glad she loves it but sometimes I want her to move onto other things. LOL! Thanks for your sweet words, by the way!
I have two of those books you hauled. I love Stokes, and bought GATU a while ago. Yeah, I really need to get to that, and I have If You’re Reading This too. I hope you like all your books, and I cannot wait to see your shelves!
I’ve been meaning to read Stokes for forever. Now I have no excuses!
Reorganizing bookshelves is such a huge task! I eagerly await your post. 🙂
HUGE! My husband just shakes his head at the insanity of it all. 🙂
Very nice book haul. And it looks like you might have a color theme going on with your book shelves. Can’t wait to see the pictures!
You’ll just have to wait and see. 😉
I can’t wait to see your shelves! Reorganizing is such a big task. I REALLY need to get on reorganizing my shelves. They are just a mixed up mess right now.
Hope you have a great week! 🙂
Mine were a crazy mess! Even after this reorganization, there are still shelves that have only a hint of rhyme or reason, but this is the best I can do!
Bookshelf reorganizing is a therapeutic activity, I’ve decided. 🙂 A stress reliever maybe. Ha ha can’t wait to see pics! Girl Against the Universe sounds great (I’ve been wanting to read Paula stokes), and so does The Storm runner.
Have a great week Nicole!
Yes, I had plenty of other tasks that probably should have been higher priority, but that one somehow crept its way up the list. 🙂
Okay, I have a feeling your reorganized bookshelves are going to make the librarian in me cringe, I may have to skip that post! 🙂 I need a weekend to re-do mine, but I was hoping I’d be moving and then I could wait and re-do them in a new house. Oh well. Some day! I’ve had to pretty much delete the Book Outlet emails without looking at them, or I’d be spending constantly. However I keep going into the Dollar Tree stores and grabbing all the books I think would be good for my library. Hope you have a great week!
Oh, yes, it will definitely make your librarian heart wither in your chest! (I even split up series—the experience was both liberating and pain-inducing.) 🙂
Your book haul pictures look great. I hope you enjoy your books!
Thanks! So much nicer than my kitchen table as a backdrop! 🙂
Now that the weather is nice I can go outside and do pictures with the flowers, plants, or trees. It’s better then the kitchen table ^_^
I agree! So much nicer!
Oh, my books are in boxes waiting for the big move so I guess I will reorganize them then – I just love doing that. But I could tackle my closet tomorrow! Ha ha!
Enjoy your books and have a great week!
The closet wasn’t nearly as much fun!
I am looking forward to seeing your bookshelf pics. I love peeking at other people’s bookshelves. I really need to get busy organizing my mess. Enjoy your new books and have a great week!
Organizing can be so painful—but also satisfying!
It’s so, so great to reorganize a closet or a bookshelf… its about the same in satisfaction! And that Disney book sounds super good! That cover draws you in and looks gorgeous against that shelf… ❤️
I agree about the cover—SO pretty against the rainbow shelves!!
Congrats on getting your bookshelves rearranged. I did that a few years ago, and my arms hurt so much afterward. Carrying huge stacks of books around the house was a workout. I hope you’re having a great week!
Ha! Mine only had to across the room (well, most of them), but it was still a workout!
“I had to get myself up to $35 for the free shipping” HA! That’s what I tell myself every single time I purchase books from them. It’s a completely valid excuse *nods head enthusiastically* lol! Ohhhh I can’t wait to see your new book shelves, that must be the best feeling ever to have that completed!
That free shipping thing is both a blessing and a curse!
The cover of The Storm Runner is fabulous, and it looks wonderful in front of your rainbow bookcase. I hope you had a great week. 🙂
I know, I love the way it looks there!
