Goodreads’ YA Books Lists. Let’s Discuss.

Goodreads’ YA Books Lists. Let’s Discuss.

Let's Discuss 57

For their celebration of YA Week, Goodreads created a few lists specific to YA. I know I just did a post on Goodreads Mid-Year lists, but I couldn’t resist checking these out too. I was curious how many of the books I’d read. CLICK ON THE CATEGORY HEADINGS TO SEE THE LISTS ON GOODREADS. 100 Top YA Books: This is an all-time list that Goodreads came up with using books that are most often on shelves and their ratings. I’ve read 54. (And I’m reading The Book Thief now, so I’m almost at 55. Plus, I just got Crank from the library yesterday.) I had 19 of them on my Goodreads TBR. (10 of which I own but haven’t read yet.) 9 books weren’t technically on my TBR, but I probably plan to read them at some point. There were 18 books I either hadn’t heard of or had no real desire… Read more »

Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart: Review & Giveaway

Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart: Review & Giveaway

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 38 ★★★★½

This book was surprisingly refreshing! For some reason, I wasn’t expecting to love it quite as much as I did. I went in with certain expectations—even just from the title—and found that most of them were surpassed or turned upside down. I ended up flipping the pages furiously because I just didn’t want to put the book down! What Fed My Addiction: Sisterly affections. The sisters’ relationship was complicated. In fact, I spent much of my reading time debating over which of them was “Grace” and which was “Fury.” I thought I knew at the beginning, but then things got turned upside down rather quickly. (In the end, I decided that Grace and Fury might both refer to both sisters after all.) I loved the fact that these were sisters who loved each other with a fierce, protective sort of love. But that didn’t mean that they didn’t have issues. You were… Read more »

Sunday Post: Preorder Deals and Giveaways Galore – 8/5/18

Sunday Post: Preorder Deals and Giveaways Galore – 8/5/18

Sunday Post 28

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. This past week on FYFA (and in my life): I made up for being gone so long by posting A LOT this week! Other than that, not much going on—I’ve been trying to get around to everyone’s blogs, since I’ve been missing so long. Feel free to give me a shoutout in the comments if I’ve missed you! This week I’m going to especially focus on trying to get to all the discussion posts that have been linked up and to the monthly wrap-ups (since I didn’t get to the June ones till the end of July!), but I’ll try to do some other blog hopping too. Here’s… Read more »

Bite-Sized Reviews of Bring Me Their Hearts, The Mermaid, and A Thousand Beginnings and Endings

Bite-Sized Reviews of Bring Me Their Hearts, The Mermaid, and A Thousand Beginnings and Endings

Reviews 22 ★★★★½

I’ve got three reviews for you today, one YA fantasy, one historical fantasy (or paranormal, I guess?), and one collection of short stories. I hope these bite-sized reviews will be enough to feed your fiction addiction! I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, but I knew I liked it right from the start. Zera is full of snark—just the way I like my YA MCs. I loved the fact that she was a sort of reluctant hero. She’s badass, but we also saw her truly genuine goodness underneath the mask that she holds up to hide her pain. Some of the elements of the story were predictable, I have to admit (hmmm… Zera’s supposed to make the prince fall for her and then steal his heart, I wonder how that’s going to turn out for her?), but I still enjoyed pretty much every minute of the journey. And… Read more »

Make Me Read It Readathon Sign up and Poll

Make Me Read It Readathon Sign up and Poll

Challenges 34

I just found the Make Me Read It Readathon and got all excited. It’s hosted by Val @ The Innocent Smiley and Ely @ Of Wonderland. My monthly Make Me Read It Giveaway has been really successful for getting me to read some books I’ve been meaning to get to for a long time, and I thought why not push it even a little further and do this readathon? What Is This Readathon About? Look at the books you own, either physical, e-book or ones you’ve borrowed from the library and pick out a few you really want to read, or feel like you should read. It’s up to you how many you pick, personally I’d pick a few more than you expect to be able to read in a week. Example: if you think you’ll only read two, pick out five books or if you think you can read seven, pick out ten…. Read more »

July 2018 Wrap-Up & Best of the Bunch

July 2018 Wrap-Up & Best of the Bunch

Best of the Bunch, Monthly Recap 48

My Goings On in July: I sent out my first queries! And got my first rejection. I guess that makes me a real writer, right? I haven’t heard from the other agents I queried yet, but I’m gearing up to send out a few more. I know that this process is going to be long and difficult with lots of rejection along the way, so I’m trying to prepare myself mentally. I keep editing my book too—I’ve been getting more feedback from critique partners—but I decided to take the plunge and send out a few queries after I did my edits from the WIFYR workshop. I have to start sometime! We celebrated our oldest’s 16th birthday! It seems crazy to think that Jade is now sixteen. How did that happen? I just … nope. Can’t get my head around it. I went on vacation to the UP Michigan. This was such a wonderfully… Read more »
