The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.
What’s been happening since my last Sunday Post:
I’ve still been working on marketing materials for The Song of Orphan’s Garden, including preorder goodies.
Unfortunately, I got some bad news regarding my revise and resubmit for the option book I had out with my editor. While the editor loves it, she took it to acquisitions and the new head of sales said it’s not enough of a high concept blockbuster type book, which is the direction the publisher’s going. So, it looks like I’m back to going on sub. 😔 It’s sad, but I have the positive of knowing that my editor really loves it and really wants it. This is a reality of publishing – there are so many steps along the way where things can fall through.
So this also means I have to double down on marketing for my debut because the sales for this book can have a huge impact on whether or not I’m published again with Feiwel & Friends. I have to prove there’s a market for my books!
I know I’ve had less time for blogging lately, and I’m really grateful to those of you who have been sticking with me through this!!
What I Read:
- I read The Last Rhee Witch by Jenna Lee-Yun. Watch for my review of this fun spooky tale, coming tomorrow.
- I also read Murray Out of Water by Taylor Tracy, a fantastic novel-in-verse. Review for this one coming tomorrow too!
- I listened to part 2 of the dramatized version of A Court of Mist and Fury. The ending was hands-down the best part of this book! Definitely makes me want to keep reading.
- I listened to A Game of Noctis by Deva Fagan. I always love Fagan’s fantasies because of her incredible worldbuilding, and this book was no different.
- And, finally, I listened to The Spindle of Fate by Aimee Lim, a fantastic fantasy that takes place (mostly) in the Chinese netherworld!
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

Lots of good stuff! Have any news? Feel free to share in the comments!
I’m sorry that your second book didn’t get picked up. Being an author is a hard road, and there’s lots of pressure. Remember, there’s only so much you can do to increase sales. We’re here for you to cheer you on and support you.
Yes, you’re definitely right that there’s only so much I can do when it comes to selling! But I’m trying to go into it with the mindset that I will do everything I can on my side (without spending tons of money) and then let the chips fall where they may. I have a good friend whose book has been a success over the long haul because of the school and library market, and she’s helping me prioritize my efforts, which has been really nice. This just made me feel that extra push to make sure I’m not sitting back and ignoring tasks that could help. I also need to focus on continuing to write so there’s always a “next book” to go out with!
Aww, that sucks. Sorry about the second book. *Hugs.* That’s what happened with the book I wrote. It eventually just hit a giant wall of “No.” I even rewrote it a billion times to make everybody happy. Then I ran out of money and motivation and had to get my park job.
I would definitely encourage you to write something else and try again (if you still want to publish). That doesn’t even mean that the first book won’t someday come to be, but having a “next book” to fall back on is pretty much key in this business. Sometimes you just need to find the right fit to start with! But, honestly, I do get why some people just give up. Writing is incredibly hard and publishing is even tougher. You have to have the thickest skin!
Sorry about your second book, but maybe it just means it isn’t the right place for it to be published and the perfect place will come around! Especially with your first book. Which I will be doing everything I can to help promote!!!
I am so happy that my first book is being published through F&F and that my editor really believes in me and in my writing. This is a bump along the road with this second book, but it’s definitely not the end! And thank you so much for supporting my book – I am so incredibly thankful for every single boost!!
Sorry about your book, but I have a feeling it will find the right home.
I am so sorry about the second book. I hope that it will eventually find its home! The publishing process sounds like such a beast, I am sending you ALL the good vibes- and am so excited about your first book! I got Murray Out of Water of course, and I have not had a chance to read it yet but I will as soon as I can!
I am looking forward to The Song of Orphan’s Garden. I am sorry about your second book, and, as others have said, I hope it finds a better home. Your recent reads all sound so good! Spindle of Fate is one I would like to read. And of course I want to read The Last Rhee Witch! I hope you have a great week, Nicole!
