Top Ten MG Books I’m Anticipating in Jan-Mar of 2025!

Okay, first off, the MG novel I’m MOST anticipating in 2025 is … mine. THE SONG OF ORPHAN’S GARDEN comes out on January 21st!! You should definitely all read it. 🙂

But here’s the real list. 10 MG books I can’t wait for!!

I’m listing them here in publication order:

1. Kaya of the Ocean by Gloria Huang

This book is about a girl who finds out she’s a descendant of a Chinese water goddess, and it’s a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection (as is my book!), so I’m excited to read it. I just bought this one yesterday!

2. As You Wish by Nashae Jones

I’ve actually already read this one, and I absolutely loved it! It’s a MG romance with a fun alternate reality story (and the alternate realities are created by the trickster god Anansi, so they don’t go so well). Highly recommend this one!!

3. The Ghosts of Bitterfly Bay by Mary Averling

I absolutely adored The Curse of Eelgrass Bog by this author, and her second book is next up on my reading list!!

4. Away by Megan E. Freeman

I read an early draft of this incredible follow-up to Alone. Now I need to read the real thing!!

5. Werewolf Hamlet by Kerry Madden-Lunsford

This book looks like it handles difficult family dynamics in a beautiful way! I need to read it ASAP.

6. Racing the Clouds by Sydney Dunlap

Another book about complicated family relationships. This one is high on my TBR too!

7. Bea Mullins Takes a Shot by Emily Deibert

I already read this amazing MG LGBTQ+ romance about a girl who prefers to blend into the crowd but learns to take chances – on the ice rink and in life!

8. Story Spinners by Cassandra Federman

Another one I’ve already read – This graphic novel is so funny and sweet. The relationship between the sisters is completely relatable and the story-within-a-story is hilariously fun!

9. Once for Yes by Allie Millington

Olivetti was a favorite 2024 read, so I’m excited to read Millington’s next book!

10. The Underwild: River of Spirits by Shana Targosz

Everything about this book looks gorgeous. I am so ready to take a journey to the underworld in March! (Oh, and the first edition of this one has beautiful sprayed edges, so make sure you pre-order!!)

What books are you excited for in 2025? I wanna know!
