Top Ten Quick Reads

Top Ten Tuesday 28

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Quick Reads In order to come up with this list, I looked at the books I’ve read that were less than 300 pages and decided which ones I loved the most! Pick up one of these books when you’re looking for a fantastic quick read! (In no particular order, except how I happened to arrange them in the pic. Links go to my reviews) 1. The Prophecy by Erin Rhew I read this fun fantasy a very long time ago, but I still remember how much I adored it! (Why haven’t I finished this series, again? Oh yeah, because I’m horrible at finishing series! I need to add this to my list of books for the Series Ender Challenge that I have to read.) 2. Poison by Bridget Zinn This book is super-underrated as far as I’m concerned. I loved it so much, and when I saw what a labor of love the publishing… Read more »

Top Ten Books I Loved More (or Less) Than I Expected

Top Ten Books I Loved More (or Less) Than I Expected

Top Ten Tuesday 44

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Books I Loved More (or Less) Than I Expected I used books that I’ve read in the last year or so to narrow things down. (In no particular order, except how I happened to arrange them in the pic. Links go to my reviews) LOVED ‘EM 1. Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys Historical fiction definitely isn’t my go-to genre, and this book is formatted kind of strangely—with lots of short chapters from each character’s perspective. But that didn’t stop me from LOVING this book! It was a bit of a surprise. 2. Written in Red by Anne Bishop Even though I’d seen lots of my blogger friends raving about this series, it just didn’t appeal to me for some reason. Urban fantasy is hit or miss with me, and I just wasn’t sure about this one. And then I read it. LOVE THIS SERIES! 3. A List of Cages by Robin… Read more »

Top Ten Hidden Gems of 2016

Top Ten Hidden Gems of 2016

Top Ten Tuesday 24

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Hidden Gems of 2016 I used books that had less than 500 ratings on Goodreads as a guideline to narrow things down.   (In no particular order, except how I happened to arrange them in the pic. Links go to my reviews) 1. The Stranger Game by Cylin Busby A twisty, mystery YA book that kept me guessing! 2. Die for You by Amy Fellner Dominy This YA book highlights how easy and painful it is to end up in a destructive relationship. 3. Titans by Victoria Scott I loved this YA fantasy and was surprised to see that it didn’t have more reviews on Goodreads! 4. How to Keep Rolling After a Fall by Karole Cozzo I haven’t read many books that feature a main character with a physical disability—this YA contemp was fantastic! 5. Red Winter by Annette Marie Not only does this YA fantasy have a gorgeous cover, it features Japanese folklore in… Read more »

Top Ten Books I Missed in 2016

Top Ten Books I Missed in 2016

Top Ten Tuesday 46

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Books I Meant to Read in 2016 But Missed (Links go to Goodreads) 1. The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner Shannon over at It Starts at Midnight raves about this as her favorite book of 2016. Based on her rec, I bought it at Anderson’s YA Lit Conference, but I haven’t managed to read it yet. 2. Replica by Lauren Oliver I got this book at BEA and was super excited about it, but then the reviews started trickling in and they weren’t stellar, so I got scared off. I still really want to read this one, though—I just need to be in the right mood for it. 3. The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon Another BEA book I was really looking forward to. Why haven’t I read it yet? I have no idea. 4. Ruined by Amy Tintera I got this one from Edelweiss and it’s gotten stellar reviews, so I don’t know… Read more »

Top Ten Books I Read in 2016

Top Ten Books I Read in 2016

Top Ten Tuesday 52

(My TTT post is going up a day late since I started working on it yesterday and got distracted. Better late than never!) Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Books I Read and Reviewed in 2016 From the title, you can probably tell that I didn’t limit myself to books actually published in 2016, but just books that I read (and reviewed—since I have a few books I haven’t reviewed yet) in 2016. I had a little bit of a hard time limiting this to ten books, but I managed it. These are listed in roughly the order I read them (backwards from latest to earliest reads of the year). (Links go to my review) 1. Scythe by Neal Shusterman I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—Shusterman is a genius. 2. The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron I don’t think I’ll be forgetting this book any time soon. 3. Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake I loved this… Read more »

Top Ten New to Me Authors I Read in 2016

Top Ten New to Me Authors I Read in 2016

Top Ten Tuesday 36

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten New to Me Authors I Read in 2016 It’s been awhile since I’ve done a TTT post, but today’s topic was a fun one, and I just had to join! For my list, I only included authors that I’ve been seeing around the blogosphere for quite some time, but just jump in and read something this year myself. (Links for the author names go to Goodreads. Click on the book cover to see my review.) 1. Victoria Schwab / V.E. Schwab I finally read my first Schwab book, and I definitely see what all the fuss has been about. This Savage Song was an instant All-Time Favorite, and bought all of the V.E. Schwab books at an author signing event so I could jump on the bandwagon with the rest of you. I haven’t read them yet, but they are high on my TBR.   2. Tahereh Mafi I… Read more »

Top Ten Books I’d Buy if Someone Handed Me a Loaded Gift Card

Top Ten Books I’d Buy if Someone Handed Me a Loaded Gift Card

Top Ten Tuesday 23

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Books I’d Buy if Someone Gave Me a Loaded Gift Card Ah, a topic near and dear to our hearts. If money were no object, what books would we pick up FIRST! (Links go to Goodreads) 1. The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson There is a very good chance that I’ll head off to Amazon to purchase this book as soon as I’m done writing this post. The only thing that stopped me from pre-ordering was the fact that I was hoping to attend Pearson’s author event at Anderson’s bookshop, and I would be buying the book there. But, unfortunately, the event takes place on my husband’s 40th birthday, and … well … as much as I love Mary E. Pearson, I guess I love my husband more. 🙂   2. & 3. Unravel Me and Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi Later this month, I’m going to do a readalong of this series with… Read more »

Top Ten Books that Took Me Abroad

Top Ten Books that Took Me Abroad

Top Ten Tuesday 8

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Books with Settings Outside the U.S. This is such a great topic! I’m always hunting for books that expand my horizons! I decided to stick with books I’ve read in 2016 to simplify things a little (mostly for myself). (Links go to my review, unless I haven’t written one yet – in that case, links are to Goodreads) 1. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh This historical fantasy series takes place in Arabia (somewhere – not sure of the exact location) and the lush setting plays a major role in the story! 2. Wanderlost by Jen Malone This book follows Aubree, who is forced into leading a tour across Europe (even though she knows nothing about it). She is enchanted by all of the places she travels, and you will be too! 3. The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye This book is a amazing fantasy set in old-world Russia, and Skye makes Russian culture… Read more »

Top Ten 2016 Anticipations

Top Ten 2016 Anticipations

Top Ten Tuesday 47

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Most Anticipated Books of the Rest of 2016 It’s been a LONG time since I’ve participated in TTT, but I really wanted to feature some of the books I can’t WAIT for this year!! (Links go to Goodreads) 1. Scythe by Neal Shusterman This has to be my most anticipated book of the year!! Neal Shusterman is a genius, and I can’t wait to read his next book. 2. Metaltown by Kristen Simmons I picked this one up at BEA, and though I know very little about it, there’s something about this one that calls to me … 3. The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson What can I even say about this book, except I NEED IT NOW!!! This is a close second to Scythe. 4.Frost Like Night by Sara Raasch Even though I was a little disappointed in book two in this series, I’m still very excited for book three! 5.Blood for Blood by Ryan Graudin… Read more »

Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Leaving Under My Tree This Year

Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Leaving Under My Tree This Year

Top Ten Tuesday 59

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Leaving Under My Tree This Year Really, I need to read all of the books I already own, but of course that doesn’t stop me from wanting more. A lot of these are books that were big this year that I missed. (Links go to Goodreads) 1. Unbound by Neal Shusterman A book of short stories that take place in the world of Unwind. Yep, sign me up! 2. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo Pssst … here’s a secret. I happen to know that Santa (AKA my mom) IS giving me this book for Christmas. Guess it’s not much of a secret since I was there when we bought it. In fact, I paid for it since I have a Target card and get 5% back and I owe her money anyway. LOL! 3. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas I NEED to join… Read more »
