I’ve decided to combine my Monthly Wrap-Up with my first Sunday Post of the month now, so this is an all-in-one.
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. I’m also linking up to the Sunday Salon @ Readerbuzz!
What’s been happening since my last Sunday Post:
Drone light show and concert for my mom’s birthday – To celebrate my mom’s birthday, we went to a drone light show with a quartet playing classical music to go along with it. The show was really cool – definitely recommend going to see one if you can!

Sports sampler classes with my dog Digit – Last week we did some of the basics of Treiball, which is basically herding with a ball. It’s one sport I’d really like to try with him – this was just a little taste, but it seems right up his alley. Then this week we did Rally, where you do obedience on a course. I haven’t kept up super well with obedience with Digit, so I didn’t have super high expectations for this one, but he actually didn’t do too terribly!
Movies – We went to A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. It was good – a little more artsy than I was expecting, but good.
Book News/Progress:
2026 IL Reads List – THE SONG OF ORPHAN’S GARDEN was chosen for the 2026 IL Reads List! Not only is this a great honor, the organization has several events associated with it throughout 2026 that I’ll get to attend!

SCBWI-IL Fall Harvest – I did a reading and a presentation for our annual conference.
AISLE Conference– I’m going to be attending the author breakfast at this conference for IL school librarians!
What I Read:

- I listened to As Brave as You by Jason Reynolds. I always love Reynolds’ books.
- I read Positively Izzy by Terri Libenson, the second book in the Emmie and Friends graphic novel series. It had a very surprising ending(!), and I’ll confess that I had to look it up to make sure I understood it correctly.
- Next, I listened to The Undead Fox of Deadwood Forest by Aubrey Hartman. I’d heard that this book was gorgeously written – so very true!
- Next I read Just Jaime by Terri Libenson, book 3 in that same graphic novel series.
- I listened to The Memory Spinner by C.M. Cornwell, a fellow Middle Grade Escapades author. My son actually listened to the book first, and he kept going on and on about how much he loved it. Of course, I had to listen to it immediately afterward!

Congrats on the book award nomination! I nominated it for the middle school award in my state, but don’t know if it went anywhere from there. The drone show looks so neat! Sounds like you had a good week, here’s hoping this one is good too!
Congrats on your book being chosen for an Illinois award! And I love the pictures of the light show you took your mom to. What a fun way to celebrate her birthday!
Congratulations on your book getting picked! I’m glad Digit had fun with his sports.
Congratulations on having your book, The Song of Orphan’s Garden, chosen for Illinois Reads. My son and daughter-in-law live in Illinois. I will share this list with them, in case they have not seen it yet.
I bet your mom loved the show in the sky!
