This past week on FYFA (and in my life):
How is September almost over? Seriously, I’m baffled by the passage of time lately. This week… things happened. I don’t remember what, but I remember that I did stuff.
Oh, wait—I do remember one thing. My daughter got 13 inches of her hair cut off so we could donate it to Locks of Love. She always gets comments on her long hair, so it was tough to let it go, but she loves her new shorter style. Makes so many things easier!
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog this past week:
- Top Ten Books on My Fall TBR
- A Spoiler-Filled Discussion of One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake

Lots of good stuff! Have any giveaways or great discussions happening on your site right now? Feel free to share them in the comments!
Wow, your daughter has amaaazing hair. My hair has never grown this long, plus it’s all curly, which makes it look two times shorter than it really is. annoying xD but managing shorter hair is aaaaalways much simpler. Plus, it’ll grow back, and seems you had a very good cause 🙂 I admire your kid for choosing something like that! It’s a beautiful thing to do. Hopefully it grows back even prettier and longer cause she deserves it 🙂
Nice posts you’re sharing. It seems I can never come away from your site without three more tabs open 😀
Thanks for sharing all those giveaways and have a great week! 🙂
This is actually the second time she’s donated it. Last time she got 11 inches cut off, and then she just let it grow out again until now. It’s much more manageable at this length, though, especially for swim team—she likes it!
Glad you’re getting good use out of my links and giveaways!
A swim team. So she’s an athlete (or whatever you’d call that :D) AND has a golden heart! Man! I feel like your kid could be a main character in a book! You must be crazy proud 🙂
Ha! Yes, she hasn’t been swimming for all that long (this is her second season), but she really enjoys it!
Wow your daughter’s hair is still pretty long even after the major cut! Thats great! Have a wonderful week!
Yes, it’s been years since she cut it, so it’s still a decent length.
Oh wow that is a big transformation for your daughter. What a great thing to donate her hair. Enjoy your new books and have a great week!
This is the second time she’s done it. She basically donates it and then doesn’t cut it again (except for minor trims) until she donates it again. 🙂
Wow, your daughter’s hair looks great. I don’t think mine would ever grow that long, but I did donate 8 inches of my hair once. I’d like to donate it again. I can’t right now because it currently has highlights in it.
Yeah, mine has highlights too. I considered cutting 8 inches because there are a couple of places that look like they will take highlighted hair (not sure what they do with it), but I haven’t decided yet. Even with just 8 inches, my hair would be pretty short.
Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️
You’re welcome! It’s a fun story!
That’s great your daughter did that with her hair. I donated mine a few years ago in memory of my parents. It is a big help for those who lose their hair from treatment.
Enjoy your new book and congrats on the win. 🙂
Thank you for stopping by earlier.
I think it’s wonderful that you did that to honor your parents—I’m sure that having that personal connection made the experience that much more powerful for you. (Though, of course, I wish you hadn’t had to experience the loss in the first place.)
Good on your daughter. I think her hair still looks amazing and wish I could get mine even that long.
She hasn’t cut it in years. The last time, she cut off 11 inches and donated it—then she just lets it grow (besides the occasional trim).
That is so awesome that your daughter donated her hair. It’s an amazing gift to give to someone.
This is the second time she’s done it. She just cuts it and then lets it grow again. 🙂
Wow that is a dramatic cut! I bet it feels as great as it looks 🙂
Yes, it’s much easier to manage!
I’m still getting used to it being September, let alone it being almost over! Yikes I need time to slow way down! My sister had really long hair too for the longest time, and she did the Locks of Love thing. She said she couldn’t believe how light her head felt after losing all that hair!
Yay for the One Dark Throne spoiler post. And Wonder Woman: Warbringer I’ve been debating on, so will definitely watch for your review!
Have a great week!
I know—I can’t believe that September is almost over. It almost seems surreal.
Oh wow! That’s awesome! I’ve wanted to do that with my own hair but it never seems to get that long and by the time it reaches a certain length I’m ready for shorter hair anyway! Lol.
Nice new reads too! Yay for the win! Hope you enjoy them both!!
Here’s my STS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
My daughter has been growing hers for years. She actually donated one time several years ago and then hasn’t really cut it since.
The days are definitely starting to blend together. I can’t believe this is the last week of September! It just got here! Congrats to your daughter! I cut 16 inches in June and donated to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program. (Locks of Love does charge for their wigs – over $1000 – and the policies to be eligible to purchase one are so marginalizing.) Short hair is easy to care for, but mine is so short that it looks like I put my finger in a light socket each morning! I have to straighten it to look presentable. Once it grows out like your daughter’s, I will love it much more!
Ha! Both she and I have really fine hair, so we don’t have that light socket issue. I had heard that Locks of Love charges for the wigs, but I didn’t realize it was so much. Last time we donated to a different organization—I think it was Wigs for Kids—but this time I’ll admit that I was a bit lazy and just did Locks of Love because it was the most obvious and easiest to find info on (and a place to do it). I’ll have to look more carefully next time.
That’s awesome that your daughter did that! Her hair is still pretty long even with that much gone! Congrats on winning Counting Wolves. It was a good one! Have a great week!
Wow, I’m really behind on replying to comments. Thanks so much for the chance to win Counting Wolves—I’m looking forward to it!
Oh wow, that’s a lot of hair gone but I do love her new look – and it’s not too short, so that has be to be nice! It’s going to a great cause. 🙂 Thanks for sharing my giveaway!!

Thanks, Lauren. Sorry I’m so far behind on replying!!
Wow!! That is a lot of hair… just gone! Good that it’s going to a good cause though! Love the cover to Counting Wolves! Enjoy 😉
She’s much happier with the shorter do, I think. Worked out great for everyone!
So awesome that your daughter donated her hair! Good for her.
Thanks for the shout-out for the JLA giveaway!
Hope you have a wonderful week, Nicole! 🙂
Thanks, Tanya! I’m way behind on replying to comments, obviously, but I’m working on catching up!
Very cool thing for your daughter to do.
Thanks, Lloyd!
Wow her hair was really long. Nice that she donated it. So many awesome looking pre-orders. I almost clicked a few, but I am too far behind right now for books to rot on my shelf. Thanks for sharing though!
I know how you feel about the pre-orders. I put them all in these posts, and it’s so tempting… but I hold myself back (most of the time).
oh how sweet and generous of your daughter Nicole. Her hair is beautiful btw! I’m going to check Cait’s post. Thanks for sharing! I need all the help I can get because.. NaNoWriMo!!! the first time I do it. [I’m scared! lol]
Good luck with NaNo! I just know you’ll do great!
Oh wow! That is a major haircut but it’s awesome she donated to something good like that, it’s always nice to know it’s going to a good cause. Having shorter hair definitely, has its benefits as I discovered as a teen.
Yeah, I think overall, she’s much happier with it shorter.
Wow! Kudos to your daughter for cutting all that hair off and donating it! That’s so awesome. I also don’t know where my weeks have been going. They’ve flown right on by.
Time has been FLYING for me lately, and I’m seriously not even sure how it’s happening!
Oh my goodness, that’s amazing that your daughter was able to do that and donate to such a wonderful cause! What a great feeling that must have caused in her heart. ♥
And I can’t wait to see what you think about Seize Today! That series sounds like it would be right up my alley, so I’ve been patiently waiting for the final book so I can binge read the series. Can’t wait for your review!
I’m excited to read Seize Today since I really enjoyed the first two books!
