Sunday Post: Book Pre-order Campaigns & Giveaways Galore – 10/6/19

Posted October 6, 2019 by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction in Sunday Post / 24 Comments

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

This past week on FYFA (and in my life):

My daughter is recovering, slowly but surely. We found out on Friday that she will need surgery on her ankle after all. (It’s a bit frustrating that we didn’t find that out in the ER when the specialist came to check on her x-rays—apparently she was called away to an emergency, so we never saw her again. She told the nurse that they wouldn’t be doing surgery, but we can only assume now that she meant they wouldn’t be doing it that day.) The biggest issue she’s been facing now is that she’s been nauseated all the time because she has a concussion. She felt miserable all week because of that and didn’t make it to school all week (not great when you’re taking classes like Discrete Math and Physics 2 for Engineers).

My younger daughter had a swim meet yesterday and got another PR for her 500. She was really hoping to break the 6 minute mark, and she came in at 5:59.99!! She actually came in last out of the varsity girls by four seconds, but we were all totally cheering for her. The other team was probably wondering what was so exciting about the last place girl. LOL!

This week was also my son’s 15th birthday! It was a bit marred by the fact that Jade was feeling really sick that night and was sort of panicking (we actually made another trip to the ER, but left before they saw us), but he was a real trooper about it. And he got a Switch Lite, so as long as he had his video games he was happy. 🙂

Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

Book Haul:

For Review:

I received Henry Lien’s second Peasprout Chen book for review. Loved the first one, so I’m eager to read Battle of Champions! The awesome cover was illustrated by Afu Chan.

Then I received a surprise picture book in the mail. I knew as soon as I saw the cover exactly what it was about. Take a look and see if you can figure out what moment Parker Looks Up: An Extraordinary Moment is talking about. The book was written by Parker and Jessica Curry and it’s illustrated by Brittany Jackson.

And then another surprise, this one from Blink YA! Salty, Bitter, Sweet is by Mayra Cuevas and the gorgeous cover was designed by Brand Navigation!

Free:

I got these three books free from Kellogg’s Feeding Reading program!

  1. I’m so happy to hear that your daughter is recovering well, but bummer about the ankle surgery. I hope she’ll recover fully soon.

Congrats on your other daughter! Even though she placed last, at least she was able to set a personal record. 🙂

    Have a great week!

Your poor daughter! Concussions are really tricky. I am sorry she is not only dealing with her ankle, but the side effects of the concussion as well. I hope she is feeling better soon. And, then the stress of the school work probably makes it even worse. Salty, Bitter, Sweet sounds really good. Just added it to my TBR. Can’t wait to see what you think of it.

I hope your daughter is feeling better now, concussions are so horrible, hugs!
I’m so happy your daughter was able to beat her time, that’s so wonderful! I’d be screaming and cheering too, that’s huge! That’s one of the things I love about swimming, it doesn’t matter what you place imo, because each and every time you’re racing against yourself. Love it! And a happy belated birthday to your son! You’ve had such a busy past few weeks, hope life is a little mellower in October.

  4. I’m sorry to hear about your daughter. Hang in there and rest up! Even if she misses some school, she’ll be much happier to go back when she’s feeling better. My cousin’s kid missed almost an entire year of high school due the whooping cough and she’s still due to graduate on time with great grades. Schools will make it happen! <3

    • Yeah, I’m hoping it doesn’t set her back too far. She was already struggling a little in her Physics 2 for Engineers class (a low B, which, for her, is struggling), so she’s nervous about missing over a week of classes and possibly having to miss more due to her surgery. Her professor has been nice about it, but we’re not sure how easy it will be for her to catch up. We shall see!
